  1. Even though you will feel some discomfort from being swollen, I don't think you will necessarily refer it to feeling crappy because when I had pain, yes...it was uncomfortable, but as soon as I tell myself that I have the band, I would smile!

I don't know if others feel this way, but I will endure any type of pain knowing that there will be a good result out of it.

Congratulations on your surgery date and I am excited for you!!!!

  2. Hi Jessy! I was banded on May 2nd, 2011 and I agree with Judy that the first two weeks will be your hardest. I am almost three weeks post op and I feel great!! I did lose alot of Water weight after surgery because I wasn't eating or drinking much so now my weight is at a stop temporarily. I just started working out this week and have been enjoying solids. Mentally, I nearly went crazy when I wasn't allowed to eat food, but just remember that it's all temporary!! You'll be able to resume your eating soon. The pains will go away. Even though this surgery is mainly same-day outpatient, it should not be taken lightly. You have just been cut open so it is vital to take care of all of your incisions and your body. Make sure you have someone there to help you get up.

I live in Tustin so we aren't so far from each other! I wish you well and keep me updated on your progress :) Best wishes.

  3. How funny that I found this post! My doctor's office told me to wait 10 minutes in between bites too! I did it because they stressed that this was important, but I do agree that it is a bit ridiculous. It takes me literally almost an hour to finish 2 oz of chicken! And by the third bite, I'm sick of it because the food gets cold (I know I can always reheat).

So seriously..I DON'T have to wait 10 minutes? That sounds so great. I'm just scared of stretching my pouch that's all. I haven't had my first fill yet... still in bandster hell!!

  4. Okay, so I am about 2 1/2 weeks post op. I got the "okay" from the doctor to eat solids again. I'm allowed to eat anything in moderation except for rice, pastas, breads, etc. That news made me sad because of no carbs (which I am a CARBOHOLIC!) Anywho, I have been craving seafood.

Yesterday and today I have had tons of crab dipped in lemon/salt/pepper. I went easy on the salt that's for sure.

Doctor said it was good Protein and low in fat. I don't have cholesterol so I'm not so worried about that. It's just a craving-phase.

Have you eaten seafood (if you're a seafood lover). The only thing I haven't eaten is raw oysters. I don't think it's a good idea yet.

  5. I am on the road to being banded and had a few questions.

How was the recovery? How many days did you miss from work? Were you really sore?

I'm trying to figure out what I have to look forward to... I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life.

The day after surgery was the worst for me. I was in pain, was looking forward to taking the liquid pain meds

every four hours. I could walk around (which helps tremendously), but as far as getting out of bed or getting up,

I needed assistance from my husband. I don't know about others, but I had the full package of chest pains, sore neck,

short of breath, and gas pains. All of them went away about a week post op. I didn't eat or drink very much at all.

All I did was took my meds and slept all day. I hibernated for a good few days and it felt great.

I'm a stay-at-home mom so there was no work to be missed. I was very sore the first two days, but that too, went away.

I am about 2 1/2 weeks post op and running around doing everything I used to do. I was at 24 hour fitness today on

the elliptical and burned 200 calories. Life is grand after the band...no pain no gain!!

    You'll be fine sweetie :)

  6. Okay, let me just start off by saying.... I haven't gulped since I was banded two weeks ago, BUTTTTT... I

am BEYOND tempted to! I have been timing my sips and made sure I don't take down too much, but seriously,

how am I supposed to get my daily fluids with this sipping?

My main question is, how many minutes do you wait in between sips of Water?

I have read that many people still drink the same way they used to, but wouldn't that hurt the band?

I'm just full of questions today! Thanks in advance for any help!

  7. Hi friends! So I had my surgery on Tuesday (Yay!) and I haven't had many major issues and I'm probably just paranoid but I just want to make sure what is happening is normal.

I'm currently on liquids until this Thursday. The first few days I was not feeling hungry at all but the last three days I constantly am hungry! I "eat" then literally minutes later I start feeling hunger pains. I get a full feeling but then I'm hungry very soon. Is it just because the liquids are filtering thru my band quickly? It's really so aggravating!

My second question is about burping! In the beginning I didn't burp much at all. Now after I eat, I burp once usually. And it's normally right around the time I feel the full feeling. I burp once. Is it normal to be burping?

My last question. I am normally a side and stomach sleeper. Ive been sleeping on my back since surgery but able to now start laying on my side and stomach with minimal discomfort so I've been trying to lay that way because it's much more comfortable for me. Is it damaging at all to the band to be sleeping on my side or stomach at this point?

Any help is very appreciated!! Thank you ;)

I'm probably being paranoid but please any help would be appreciated!

Hi there! Okay let's start with the hunger issue. I have learned that you're not feeling hungry in the beginning stages after being banded because your stomach is still swollen. Some people start getting their appetite back a few days after or even a week or more. As for me, I didn't get my appetite back until the 9th-11th day, but even if I was drooling over something, I wouldn't even be able to eat 1/2 a cup of it.

Burping is one of my biggies! I burp all the time! It seems like every time I drink or eat...I will let out a little burp. My doctor says it's fine and actually is good that I'm getting it out of my system. SOOO...you're fine :)

I am a stomach sleeper, but haven't been able to do that in a while. However, I have been sleeping on my side and if it causes you minimal to no pain, but I don't see the problem...But right now since you have only been banded for a few days, I would recommend sleeping on your back until your port incision and is fully healed.

    I hope this helps!!

  8. Don't beat yourself over it too much! Today I had some sausage egg mcmuffin from McDonalds and I have been kicking myself for it all day. And to make matters worse, my stomach is reminding me of my screw up....I haven't been able to eat much at all since Breakfast at 9am today and I'm sad

that I didn't control my temptation to not have some... We all go through it honey and I am so glad that you were able to reach out to us and not be ashamed. I'm sure some will judge us for this, but just gotta pick ourselves up and continue.
