Hi Everyone! I'm wanting to get the LAP BAND and have a few questions. I am just starting this journey and wanted to get input from ya'll in hopes to get a better idea of what kind of process this will be for me. I have UHC. I am going to call tomorrow to make sure my company covers WLS. I'm sure they do though. But I am worried about the requirements from the surgeon and ins.company.1. Since my BMI is over 40, will be automaticly approved with out jumping through hoops?2. What if I cant get 5 years worth of records of being over weight due to lack of doctors visits. ( I have been on my own since 17 and never have been able to see a doctor on a regualr basis. Not to mention, I have been down a pretty rocky path which has prevented me the ablity to take care of my self.. you dig? )3. Has anyone ever used Dr. Steven Fass out of Austin Tx( SW Barriatrics Clinic? My PCP refers to him. So I am wondering if he has  any requirments pre-op for patients with a BMI over 40. I have been over weight all my life. I was born heavy.  I have health issues related to my weight and a long line of family medical history of being over weight and health related issues. My mothers side of the family have all been large women. My last doctor said I had hypo-thyroid, pre hypertension and who knows what else..being that it's been 5 years since I have had any medical attention or blood work done regarding my thyroid and blood presure. Also, I have never had a regualr menstral cycle either... which I heard is caused by being over weight and possibaly PCOS.Anywho-- I have my first apointment with my PCP tomorrow to see where I am at with my Thyroid and hypertension, re- check for PCOS and check my blood surgar as well.I know I have depression and I'm sure my back pain is caused by my weight as well.
In Yall's opinion, do u think that with a BMI over 40, postive for Hypo-Thyroid and being pre hypertenion, that will be enough to automaticly approve me with out a 6 month diet and proof of weight history and all the other delays? Thanks in advance for ya'll opinions and or experiences!Always, Amber Xoxo
