The walking is the best you can do to feel better. If you were in the hospital that is what the nursing staff speaks of soon after surgery. I walked across the room & back maybe a dozen times the day after surgery and down the block half way the next day, increasing the distance the following day. Follow your bariatric center's instructions, but from experience I know this procedure is not because you are sick, but exercise gets things working towards healing. Good health to you!

    Ultimate Goal?

At my age I simply want to be healthy. I have corrected the blood pressure, am no longer a borderline diabetic and now want to not gasp for oxygen when I am walking a distance. This is taking longer to improve. The summer's good garden produce tastes so good it is hard not to overeat! Life is good right now so I'm not watching the scale but trying to get outdoors and do some things! Pray for me.

    My story is just beginning

I think for the first two months you body is asking for all that sugar & sodium we were so fond of. I know I found raw vegetables tasted weird and V-8 juice was putrid. But after I got the taste buds weaned from the high calorie, junk food & soda it all changed. Don't give up. Skip the potatoes, sweets, breads and fats for awhile and gradually add them back as you watch calories. If you find bread puts you on an eating spree, just cut it out for a week or so. You will know what your tastes cause you to do, listen to your body. I have had my band 6 years, and I know what & when my body speaks to me. I wish you the best of good health!
  10. I do not discuss Lap Bands with anyone. Most friends my age don't know what they are for. I use my lapbandtalk.com and my sparkpeople.com to satisfy my questions and feelings. Thanks for your positive and healthy responses! You are all just so kind & considerate. . . . . . today is going to be a good day.

    I'm 185lbs and seeing a Dr. Aug 14th

This to me is not really surgery. It is very a very little incision. I've had a toe operated on and a broken thumb that hurt more. I can have it removed at any point in the future, but would I? I love my lap band and my "in the zone "non-hunger- feeling when all my co-diners are shovelling the food in!

    My story--banded for 9.5 years.

Hi, I'm 6 years with my band. I attended 4 evening classes before visiting the bariatric center in the twin cities. I phoned my insurance company to ask for a doctor who did many (over 100 surgeries). (1) Surgeon with good track record. (2) Complete work up with my GP required. (3) Mental test with correct doctor. (4) Class with Nutritionist. And finally, (5) Surgeon with a university student as assistant. I love my band. I don't think I would be alive if I hadn't had my band placed. I am no longer diabetic. My blood pressure is good. I am HEALTHY!

    It's Been A Long Road

This is the kind of post I love to read. I am also beginning on the next leg of my losing journey. I've lost my "zone" by overeating. Now I'm cutting my meals in 1/2 to shrink & find my sweet spot. Wish me good roads ahead . . and pray for few potholes. . . .. . . .

Hi I am James New to this forum....

Welcome to our forum! I am a member of the "Happy Banders": I would not ever have mine removed. It is a part of me, it tells me when I have eaten enough. I eat my noon meal at our local senior center & many times I put down my fork after a few bites and just tell myself "you feel full". Sometimes I put what is left in a container to take home (for my supper, the dog or the disposal) and occasionally just leave the leftovers to be discarded there. I was always a member of the "clean your plate club" and this was hard to do when I first started my inner communication with my LapBand. Wishing a healthy future to all Lap Band Carriers!

Wishing you the best of health and you find your satiety easily. Lap Banding is the way to go!
  18. I wish I could visit with the daughter who upset you. Maybe give her the Lap Band booklet and ask her to not speak negative /or if not positive to remain quiet. I have one negative son who remains quiet (& he is overweight!). Every time I mention a cold or headache he thinks it is my Band. (But now he is silent and it does keep me from asking for sympathy for every little pain. Good huh? I remember when my parents had hours of conversations in regard to their health & it did get boring. Ha!) Anyway, we are here for you & you can talk to us. This sight has some very nice folks checking in and we are in your boat. Happiness & Good health to you in your banding journey.

    HELP NEEDED

Good Morning, I also have the same problem. What I have done in the past is not to say or think "diet". I eat at a location where my plate is filled for me. So I put 1/2 in a carryout before I eat a bite, so I'm only eating half of the quantity I ate the day before. I take this home for the refrigerator. (I either eat this at another meal or feed the dog or disposal. ha!) After a few days my stomach (pouch) has shrunk a bit and I'm no longer hungry. Then I begin to listen for my body signals that says "enough". When my stomach (pouch) is enlarged I don't get messages and that's when I overeat. This eating half as much really works but you will be tempted for a few days, especially at night. This has happened to me several times as I had my Band placed 7 years ago. (My only worry is that my stomach (pouch) will not shrink back to where it was the first few years.) If you have to do the cooking the smaller plate & tiny cutlery would be an option. Wishing you good health.

    Just banded July 18 2013

Didn't you have a Bariatric Center to call when they sent you home as an out-patient? If not, that doctor & surgery center should be reported. You should have had more comfort assistance! This is why I would never go to Mexico or to some hole in the wall place for Lap Band placement. My insurance company would like to know about bad follow-up on their policy holders before covering claims!
