    Minnesota Folks-Where are you?

I go to the teaching hospital/bariatric center near Abbott NW of Minneapolis. They do hundreds of our type lap band placements and my insurance company suggested them along with several others locations doing a quantity of our type. (Not so many problems!) Rochester Mayo does not do these I was told. I've had 2 fills and will hopefully be getting another on October 7th. No problems, knock on wood! I love my band.
  3. Welcome to our World of the Banded! Keep in touch with your Bariatric Center/Doctor and follow their advice and your road to good health will be smooth. If you hit a few potholes the great folks here at Lap Band Talk are great to counsel you. Wish you the best. . .
  4. Sorry you are having troubles. Take it easy and don't be hard on yourself. We'll be watching for your update here and saying a prayer for your healing.
  5. Personally I would call the home office of the insurance Company. Tell them what you wrote here. They will have more medical bills if they let you regain all that weight! I would think they would give you a variance/pass on the old rule for your health's sake! Good Luck!

    NIGHT TIME HUNGER :(

This is a topic dear to my heart. I cannot control my middle of the night eating. I think it is my diabetes raising it's ugly head! I am trying to have a fruit serving at bedtime. (When I remember.) This is at 3 or 4 in the morning when I wake up for bathroom duty. I am diabetic borderline, so sugar or juice allows me to go back to sleep! But once in awhile I have toast & sugar free jam . . . but once I start that I want more. When I get my saline back next week that should soon vanish. (I hope.) But "THANK YOU GOD" my cancer has not reappeared!

    sort of new to lapband

Not knowing more about you (Do you eat alone or with family? Are you diabetic, so you control sugar? Do you have high blood pressure? Do you have something you are being treated for? Etc?) If my questions are not a factor and you are cooking for others I would eat with the rest of the family and just cut the quantity in 1/2. If you are alone I suggest boiling a doz eggs & chopping fresh veg & a variety of fruit, etc. to have in the refrigerator. Think of skim milk, chicken breasts, unsweetened apple sauce, and then look at some low cal recipes for baking something you like. I just tried to think ahead to have things on hand. Sometimes I opened a can of beans & rinsed them for my protein. Beans go down good and add flavour to a salad too. Onions, carrots, celery, broccoli are good, but I found I felt better if I blanched them or put them in microwave a little bit to ease my tummy. If I ate them raw they didn't digest well or else I wasn't chewing long enough. Maybe this is more than you ever wanted to know, but you will do great, just listen to you pouch it will tune you in to it's likes & dislikes!

  10. You got it Blake! Keep on that smooth road ahead, miss the potholes and dead ends, watch for curves and the steep hills and the valleys and interstate will be great. . . . . . . . . . . . . (sorry I got carried away.) I also had bad feet, walked slowly, high blood pressure, diabetes and etc. so my band is my saviour. Congrats to you

    Long-time bandster

I have my appointment with Bariatric Center for October 7th. May be having a fill. I had the saline removed early in 2012 before my cancer surgery for the removal of the left breast. That was done just next door to the Bariatric Center, so it's not far for consult. They announced I'm "cancer free" so now to get back to my banding tool. I ate a little too much during the cancer scare, or else I celebrated the freedom from that worry! So with that extra weight packed on, I'm now gearing my brain up to watch what goes in my mouth. The Lap Band Talk site is one I found in 2007 and have this past winter revisited. Low and behold, I was still listed as a member. I have been spending morning coffee time here since our long snowy winter here in west-central Minnesota. . . . . . . . . Just a thought: . . . . . I think my cancer surgery and the after therapy went so well because of the help & success I had from my banding tool. . . . . . . . . . Probably saved my life!

    Minnesota Folks-Where are you?

Hi Minnesotans, I found this group several days ago and wondered why it wasn't hopping with activity. We must have a lot of Lap Banders in the area because we have some good bariatric centers available. I love my Band and would not part with it! I used to attend Group Band meetings but they were held 50 miles in distance. Rather far in winter, and I don't know if there are any active now. How would I go about finding out? Or if there are any more being held closer? The lap band path is a rather lonely one but with Lap Band Talk we can find encouragement. Keep pushing!

Welcome to our World of the Banded! Walk, walk & walk and things will improve. Let us hear from you. .
  16. How unlucky to be that one of thousands to have trouble. I pray for you. My band has saved my life. I had it placed by a very good surgeon who had done hundreds of procedures and worked in a teaching hospital. They had nutrition classes and informational seminars plus a long list of preop things my GP had to cover before scheduling my LapBand procedure. This prior workup and education on my part almost guaranteed success. This operation requires a dedicated bariatric center's follow-up required by medicare and my insurance company. The follow-up kept me alert and listening to my body. My morning cup of coffee and visit to lap Band Talk starts my day off on a smooth path. . . . keep in touch . . . we want to help . .

    Minnesota Folks-Where are you?

Hi, I'm from West-Central Minnesota. I drove to the Bariatric Center at Abbott NW in September 2006 to have a lap band placed. As I was over 65 my insurance company required me to have my surgery at a hospital that did over 100 operations of this kind during the past year, and gave me the locations of only three in the State that qualified. My surgeon teaches at the U of M and I think there was a student in observation present. They had me go through a long list of tests before I was scheduled. I had to lose 30 pounds on my own before they accepted me also. I attended 3 seminars and several nutritional classes before being okayed. I have never been sorry since and would not think of having it removed. I am a frequent visitor to Lapband.com and visit here each morning with my cup of Java. Greetings to all other Banders from Minnesota!

Cant we all just get along ?!

Soon we aren't going to say anything of substance because we may offend someone! If a blog bothers me I just delete it. Everyone has an off day once in awhile.
  22. Welcome to our world of Banders! Listen to your bariatric medical people and use your tool and your path to good health is just ahead!

    3 year anniversary

We welcome you as an active bander on our road to good health. Isn't it amazing what all this extra food has done to those of us who live in the land of plenty? My taste buds have me wanting certain foods I particularly like and if I know they are in the house I'm in trouble. Life can be so complicated. . . We know what to do and we have our great bander tool. Now we must make that great effort to use it correctly! Good traveling, we have our road map. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

?KNOW IT ALL? posters in Bandland this is for you.

Every Patient is different. Every Surgeon is different. Every Bariatric Center is different. Every Nutritionist is different. After listening to all of them I spent much time really listening to my own body! It will reach a quiet zone and really give you signals. (It was almost like the messages from the baby/fetus when I was pregnant) Now I don't hear it again because I'm overeating. I have been on this forum for inspiration to get back on the path again. . . . . .Please don't blog negative, run it all through your own thought process and be positive going on the road to being happy & improving our health.
