  1. I am new here and I started my two week pre-op diet. I am scheduled for lap band surgery on August 30th. Day one of the diet has gone well but I am concerned about the following days. Food has been such a BIG part of my life to date and I am ready to start a new life style. My wife is such a blessing and a help. She is beside me 100%.

    I Told My Parents Tonight!

I have not told my Dad. He has told me on many occasions that "all you need to do is..." Well all I need to do is to take care of ME! People who are not over weight will never understand the hold food has on some of us. I have told my sister-in-law, my mother-in-law and my wife's best friend. They are all behind me 100% and very supportive. I think if my mother was still here she would be supportive. I hope your Dad comes around.

    Never wake up...

It may be the Polly Anna in me but I have no worries. I just know this is going to be a piece of cake(sugar free cake)! This will be my first time for surgery but I am so excited about the future and the benefits I cannot bring my self to worry. My wife is by my side and that's a HUGH comfort! Be strong and try to keep a positive attitude.
  4. We looked into going the insurance route but found only road blocks and HUGE hurdles! Luckily we are blessed with the means to self pay. I don't understand the insurance game. It is a game. You have to know all the rules and all the cheats in order to get anything done. I had 2 stitches in my finger a couple of years ago, received the bill and found I had been charge for a tracheotomy tray. I called BC/BS to complain and was told that was a "customary charge". It was there "if" I needed it! I told them "well the x-ray machine was there too but I didn't get charged for that!" They paid the bill! Sorry to vent in your thread but I get so fed up with insurance companies. I pray you get through all your hoops and hurdles. Good luck.

    The Journey has Begun

Day three of the 2week pre-op diet and I have lost 6 lbs! I have been walking 2 miles each day at about a 3 MPH pace. The powered eggs and so called oatmeal are BAD. I got permission to sub Unjury/EAS shakes for breakfast. :smile2:

    Are You Telling People?

When my wife and I were just starting to date we had this happen to us. It was our third date. We met at a park for a day of walking, talking and dinner after. I noticed something was wrong with her attitude. Nothing really but something was different. The way she walked, the way she looked at me, the way she carried herself. I thought here we go, it's time for the "let's be friends" speech. As it turned out she had had gastric bypass and was afraid to tell me. She was afraid I would dump her!! When she told me I just Oh, OK. I could not imagine someone being that narrow minded. She had read on this web site about some people judging you for having these types of surgery. As it turned out I did not dump her and she did not give me the let's be friends speech and in May of 09 we married!!! As for the question of the OP, No I have only told two others and they have both had gastric bypass. I have two wonderful friends and a wonderful wife to support me.
