  1. From my pre-surgery diet on June 1st (surgery June 7th) to June 22, I had lost 27 pounds. (I have not weighed this week) The more you weigh in the beginning, it seems that you lose more. Sticking to the diet laid out by the NUT and not cheating is certainly going to be my guidelines.. ( I really like the Protein shakes!)
  2. I dearly love my surgeon. He explained everything, the booklet explained it, but the actual AFTER surgery was an experience I do not ever want to repeat! I had to have a hernia repaired (The prior swallow test showed a small-medium hernia); after he got in, it was larger -so he had to repair it first. This caused me to be under anesthesia longer, which contributed to my distress afterwards. After I was wheeled to post-op, I woke up retching, and of course, there is nothing to throw up...This caused pain thru my abdomen, pulling on my incisions. I was then taken to my room and put in a bed, still retching... My surgeon came in, bless his heart, and I let him have it--- I told him I was not happy, he apologized & left. He knew it was the anesthesia after-effects, cuz he came back later after I had a Zofran shot/apin meds, & I felt more civil. The worse part was going to the bathroom for the first time. You have to be unhooked from the inflated boots, monitors, etc.. so you walk 5 ft to toilet. After eating ice chips, it went straight to my bladder. I was going every hour and a half, so I got to be a pro... The next day I practically 'dashed' down the hall when I was told I had to walk. I hated every second of it, but knowing I was going home gave me strength to do it....that was June 8th. I got home & my feelings changed. I think that that little feeling of 'regret' I had after waking up disappeared after I got home. I went back to work part-time a week later. I should have gone in for 2 hours or less, & I regretted it. One of my nursing staff had to help me to my car as my strength gave out quickly. That is the only complaint I have now--even with 58-68 grams of Protein and 64+ ounces of water/liquids--I have NO energy.. I will address this with him on 7/22/16. Maybe I had a 'mediocre' experience--I have read some real horror stories on this site, so I was some-what prepared & went in with my eyes wide open...

    Vitamins

Sorry you are having this problem...... Make sure you have the chewable Vitamins. When I first started taking them, the taste was ok. Now they taste like rotten fruit (after taking for 2 weeks) I am also having to take sips of Water to wash it down after chewing. You really need to ask your physician/surgeon about this. Vomiting leads to dehydration, so be careful... Every physician/surgeon has a different 'spin' on the Vitamin deal. My nutritionist stressed the importance of taking them. After I discussed the taste issue with my surgeon, he told me I did not have to take them every day as long as I was taking my 50,000 units of Vitamin D once a week. So I take the Iron, Calcium, & Multivitamin every other day, and B12 once a week. When I go back to see him on 7/22, I am going to ask about stopping them after I start back at semi-regular diet (6-7 weeks).
  4. My surgery date is June 7th, and I am trying to sort thru all the brands of the unflavored Protein powder. I would love to hear other comments on the brands vs price vs availability online. I have bought some of the Pure Protein flavored powder and the Protein Bars for later, but the unflavored is a 'mystery' I need to 'investigate'..... Anyone and everyone--suggestions/comments please!!?!! THANKS!!

    June - July sleevers?

I got my surgery date last week--on my birthday!! Yeah-June 7th!! This is my gift to me from me....a new beginning for a new way of life! I am so excited, and as the time draws closer, I expect to feel some apprehension--maybe.... Getting people trained to cover for me at work is my biggest headache right now. (You;d think I was going on a 6 week cruise!)

I am the Practice Manager for a very busy Internal Medicine clinic. My hopes are that after my surgery I will have a better handle on my organization skills....LOL! I put it off for a couple of years, but now it is time for 'me'....
  7. I went to a seminar in 2010 and had my surgeon visit scheduled. I was so excited! The week before my appt my fiance had a seizure and was found to have a brain tumor. I dedicated all my effort to see him thru his health crisis and put my WLS to the back burner. To make a long story short, he died after fighting cancer for 5 months. In my grief & dealing with his greedy family, I gained 40 more pounds over the next 2 years. There is a lot I want to accomplish before I get any older, plus my knee pain is getting worse-hence WLS. I have BCBS Gold thru employer and will go to a new seminar as required on the 20th (this wk). What can I expect BCBS to require--psych eval, nutrition eval, cardio clearance (had holter done a couple of weeks ago to test equipment at my office)?? Any info will be greatly appreciated!! .-)
  8. What type of efforts? I tried Slimfast last summer, with so-so results until I stopped. I have not tried any of the new weight loss drugs as my physician did not have faith in them. My Gyn Dr. is so supportive, as is my Ortho Dr. who happens to be Chief of Staff at the hospital I may be having my surgery at. Both will do letters & provide health documentation to support the surgery. I guess I will sit down with the Surgeon's coordinator after the seminar Wednesday as NC BCBS has had 'news-worthy' problems lately, and getting on the phone with them is time I do not have.
