  1. 1) No, I kept the majority of the weight I lost off. I think I gained about a fourth of what I lost in total. The first 3 or 4 days after the unfill, I gained 17 lbs of just Water alone. Bleh. My average calories was similar to what it's been it's for 7 years (~1200 to 1500 calories). I was told this was normal due to being malnourished and dehydrated by having a too tight band for too long.

    2) I had the band removal to sleeve in one step surgery. I was still in onederland when they suggested that I get a revision. They unfilled me that day. I remained unfilled for several months to let my esophagus and stomach rest before the surgery, which was done as an outpatient. (Easy recovery, btw)

    3) Not much lost during 3 weeks pre-op, for the same reason I gained some of my weight back. My body was still adjusting and hung onto everything. Even on 800 cal pre-op, my body wouldn't budge! grrrr
    4) 11 weeks post op revision: 36 lbs. lost

  2. I had a vertical sleeve done in 2012 by Dr. Kim in Dallas, Texas. I traveled from Albuquerque, NM to have the surgery.

I have always been an emotional eater and my starting weight was 255. I am currently 243.

The sleeve only restricted my eating for about 8 months and then it was all up to me. I got down to 189 and it was fantastic! Then about a year and a half ago the weight started slowly creeping back on.

I am very disappointed in myself and I contacted Dr. Kim to ask about my revision surgery options but his staff told me that he won't revise his work if you live in another state.

Has anyone had a similar experience or have any advice?

When I was living in NY last year, I wanted my band adjusted when I got to Texas, and they wouldn't make an appointment for me or anything because I was out of state, let alone a revision.

  3. I had lapband. The dietician who leads my support group said 300 to 600 is average for sleeve and bypass the first three months. Again, focusing on Protein first. With lapband I eat between 600 and 1000 calories a day knowing my weightloss will be slower.

    Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

My average for the first week was ~400 calories. My surgeon was adamant to get the calories up to 800 as soon as possible. It was never recommended to keep near that range, especially for 3 months straight as you suggested. If one stayed that low, they would be begging for gallstones and serious health problems. I'm not trying to be combative, but am concerned that someone might take your suggestion seriously so I am also stepping up to oppose this for the many readers on this thread.

  4. I'm newly sleeved but wondering what your doctors recommended for daily calorie intake?

The general consensus is make sure you get all your Protein and Water in the liquid and mushies stages. Every program is different so it's good to see what your surgeon suggests. My surgeon wanted me to focus on Protein and Water during the early stages, and didn't mention calories or carbs until week 5 when I moved to solids. At that point she said 800-1200 calories, 60g protein (my typical protein is 60-90g/day).

  5. I'm entering day 5 of recovery of my revision. Banded 11-2008, sleeve 11-15-16. I feel amazing, almost like I never had surgery, my incisions are starting to itch a lot so that's my reminder, lol. I was off prescription pain meds on day three. I can drink 64oz of Water a day and get in 60g Protein. I don't feel hungry. I feelin like I it's going to be the best thing I ever did.

That's awesome :). Yeah, my incisions were super itchy too! I put that Neosporin on that had anti-itch in it as well.

  6. I was allowed coffee throughout the entire process. Thank goodness. I think my metabolism would've died if I ever stopped it hehe. Not a Starbucks fan though. One of the biggest changes in my diet that helped me was kicking mocha coffee with lots of calories. I think I overdosed on it back in the day hehe. I like my coffee with a little cream and can't drink coffee that is remotely sweet anymore.

  7. "Some of my faves -

Chia seeds are great, can sprinkle them in everything, 2 T equal 6g of Protein. Tempeh = 16g per 3 oz serving. Black Beans 7.6g per half cup. Peanuts are 7g per 1/4c (or 2T peanut butter), cashews are 5g per 1/4c. Lentils and lima Beans are up there too but I don't like those too much hehe.

I LOVELOVELOVE lentils and limas...I eat lentils 3 or 4 times a week, with curry spices or onions or tomatoes. I adore them. I love limas too but they don't love me...do you think it could be the skins on them?

Thanks to you and your suggestion a while back about kefir, I bought some at Whole Foods and loved drinking it. It had been a while since I'd had any, so I wanted to give it a trial run before I bought the grains to make it myself.

And tell me how you prepare tempeh? I can get it at our military grocery store, surprisingly, so I'm willing to give it a shot."

    _____________

Yeah, it may be the skins on them :(. Wow, great to hear you are drinking kefir! It's so so so good for our gut health.

Tempeh can be substituted for ground beef in any recipe, just crumble it in your recipe as you would ground beef. Some like to broil it with a layer of cheese or put it in Soups, chilis, salads or stews. I remember seeing a vegetarian tempeh chili recipe once. Like Tofu (it's just the fermented sibling of tofu hehe), it takes on the taste of whatever you use as spices.

Found this page, I'll probably try some of these too. :D http://www.crazyvegankitchen.com/15-of-the-best-vegan-tempeh-recipes/
