Surgery Monday 10/24 Feeling Hungry
Sai replied to kittykatlover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm taking 40mg of Protonix. I'm nervous that something went wrong with the surgery. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App I think that's normal. When people are in pain, they think something went wrong with the surgery, when people (like myself) had the easiest recovery (or was hungry the first couple of weeks), we think something went wrong with the surgery. By the 3rd day I felt so "normal" and I swear I thought they didn't do it except that I had holes all over my tummy hehe.... But once I hit the solid food stage, there was no doubt about it. ^^ Your hunger will drop off once the swelling goes down and you get the acid under control. -
Cream for scars?
Sai replied to Crafty-in-Carolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been using Mederma advanced once daily. -
I was able to get 64 oz from day three too but I'm aware many have a much tougher time in recovery as far as pain when drinking . Just do what you can and as long as you don't have medication that turns your urine different colors, make sure that it's a light honey color. Dark urine, dizziness... Etc. are big flags of dehydration. Just keep sipping all day.

Protein supplements - What is the highest # of protein with the lowest volume to have to drink?
Sai replied to LittleLizzieLilliput's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't drink any Protein drink, pre-made or otherwise. I'm a big fan of unflavored protein if I find myself running low on protein. Maybe get some unflavored protein and add it to your purees/drinks. I use GENEPRO but others here like Isopure and many others. -
I get the majority of my protein from fish but am working on getting more plant protein into my diet. Did you know that for every 3% increment of plant protein in a diet, risk of death decreased 10% & risk of cardiovascular death decreased 12%?

Hi all, I have to use good ol' willpower to keep it around 1000 cal. My average is 900 calories. I am a sloooow but steady loser, even the snail beats me but I am content with a 1-2 lbs a week. Hmmm, I don't do low-fat anything nor do I intake any artificial sweeteners (or sugar) though. I prefer whole foods so that means whole cream in my coffee. I love healthy fats like avocados, baked fish with olive oil and spices... Etc. What I've eaten so far today: S: Coffee with 2T creme. B: 3.5 oz Wild-caught Salmon baked with a soy sauce/natural Peanut Butter coating, 1/3 edamame S: Watermelon 1 cup L: 4 oz Cauliflower pizza recipe with extra cheese topping (no meat this time)... I really love this recipe lol. Not sure what I'm going to have for dinner yet but I have left over grilled spicy Catfish in the fridge.

If you're located near Dallas. Have you tried Kim's Bariatric? They did all the paperwork for me, an on appeal, my revision was approved. I didn't have any health issues except high blood pressure. My insurance is BCBS of Texas too.

How long does it usually take to get surgery date?
Sai replied to kimmie kim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About four months for me. The quicker you can get all the testing done, the sooner you can get on schedule... At least that's the way it worked at my bariatric center. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App -
My best guess is it's Water weight, and just be patient and the scale will move soon. Even at 1200 cal per day, you should be losing that's why I think it's water weight or your body is still adjusting to the major surgery. I had a tremendous amount of water retention the first few weeks... Still do off and on. Drink more water to flush it out, like 68 oz at the very least. It'll help curb head hunger too. Like what others are saying, take your PPI as directed so you won't have acid mimicking hunger pains. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Congratz on your decision to have the sleeve. I'm sorry to hear of your hardship. I, too, didn't tell many people about my revision (nor did I tell many about my lap band in 09). It's not because I am ashamed but more I'm just a private person by nature. I think you'll find the sleeve to be a useful tool, and the numbers are on your side for you to be able to be successful. Since you had the band, you already know the drill as far as chewing your food really well, not drinking till 30 min after a meal so I think you will do well as long as you are committed to a healthier lifestyle. If you live by these rules plus always eat Protein first, and drink 64 oz of Water a day, you'll be set. Wishing you success!

very slow loser, completely stalled

You've done so well, and I'm glad to hear you're logging now. Wishing you continued success! -
Lap Band removal/sleeve in 2 separate procedures
Sai replied to skinny06's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think it has a lot to do with technique. My surgeon (as well as many others I'm sure) invert the staple line and then it's laparoscopically stitched. The leak rates of this technique is virtually zero. It uses the serosa which is the strongest layer of stomach for more support, and remove all the fundus to stop the future stretching. -

Are you logging all what you eat (Calories, carbs, fats, protein)? Through time we tend to increase calories, carbs... etc without realizing it if we don't log every bite we take. For me, it's a daily reflection to how I felt that day and why I made certain choices, and what I could do better tomorrow (or repeat if it's good). It's hard to give tips if we don't know your daily calorie/carb intake except for the obvious cut down on your calories or carbs. -
Rate Of Weight Loss, Those Starting Under 200 Lb?
Sai replied to NothingUpMySleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First month sleeve I lost quite a bit (~30lbs), but that was to take off what I had gained from my lap band being unfilled for many months (probably mostly Water weight). After that, it's business as usual, it's about 1-2 lbs. a week at 900-1200 cal/day, 60 carbs. -
Inspiration to those of us who are new to the sleeve. Thank you

Always hungry.. failing.. feel like I'm stretching my stomach
Sai replied to megan1971's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At day 16 or 17, my hunger switch went off. Some get relief sooner and others take longer. Depends on your healing rate, and your excess acid, and of course, your emotional eating habits (which should've been somewhat broken at the pre-op stage but that depends if your doctor required pre-op diet). I'm almost 2 months post-op and when I start feeling that annoying hunger feeling, I know it's acid. -
I was reading a doctor's advice concerning pre-op at realself.com awhile ago and apparently there is a debate whether pre-op is necessary or not. Both of my surgeons (lap band 09 and revision) required a strict pre-op.

Getting banded tomorrow morning
Sai replied to newelybanded2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the lap band in 2009, things may have changed since then but... I just remember having bad gas pains, and so I lived on Gas-X strips for a week. I didn't experience too much nausea as others did. You just feel "sore" like you've worked out too hard. -
When you get to solids, you will feel it. liquids, some purees go right through. Doh. I just realized this was a Bypass question. Sorry! Is full the same as the sleeve? I get pressure near my esophagus, and my nose starts running like crazy or I try to burp and I can't. I measure everything too because one bite too many is horrible. >.<

Fill out your STATS, weight, height and surgery date!
Sai replied to Pescador's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wish there was a "revision" surgery option. I lost the majority of my weight in 2009 after the lap band and kept it off all these years until I had my revision. It sure looks weird to see my weight loss and having sleeve surgery 8 weeks ago. -
First puree meal, ricotta cheese bake
Sai replied to ella37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Where did you find cauliflower pizza? Several recipes but this one is the one I use. Enjoy! http://barixclinics.com/blog/recipe-cauliflower-pizza/ -
It's by far (at least to me) THE worst part of it all. There is a lot to look forward to! You could do it .

Sai replied to ella37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like that recipe very much. Another favorite of mine is the Cauliflower pizza. I like the crock pot meals a lot too (there is an awesome thread going on that currently) but all my recipes are so basic I don't share those but I am following the thread. -
What do you eat after 8 weeks?
Sai replied to Frenchie1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm approaching 8 weeks but I was cleared at week 5 for all foods as long as I can tolerate it. Many here are on low carb diets, less than 30 carbs. I'm on a moderate carb for now (I switch every now and then), ~60 carbs. My surgeon's program says 900-1200 calories, 60 carbs. It seems all programs are different, I'm sure you'll get a lot of different diets from everyone here hehe. -
Hmmm I don't usually do any Protein shakes, Protein Bars...etc. Some of my favorites are string cheese, homemade kefir with an ounce of fruit in it with chia seeds (or whatever I'm in the mood for to blend in it), edamane, hummus with fresh vegetables (I like black bean hummus), roasted vegetables, 1/2 an avocado broiled with parmesan cheese with a a little lime and paprika on it... To name a few.
