How Many Days Did You Take Off Work?

Hi Danity! I am also a Dr. Aceves patient - although I won't be getting my revision until May 25. My other option was the 11th though! lol I am having my surgery on a Friday and plan on going back to work the following Tuesday. When I had my band I had surgery on Friday and went back to work the following Monday with no issues. I have a semi-desk job. Some of it is here at my desk, but other times I am up and moving a lot. I've always had a high pain tolerance, I feel bad for others that have such a rough recovery time from surgeries!! Best of luck to you!!!

Band To Sleeve In Single Surgery?

This just makes me SICK. OK, I can see the list of excuses they can more than likely come up with as to why they can't TREAT you since your revision - but to not even allow you to attend the SUPPORT GROUP!? What a crock of bologna. This right here is one of the many reasons I have little respect for american bariatric doctors. They're all crooks. And when you don't want to willingly and without questions shell out 40k to them for a surgery that costs them a quarter of that if not less they get all butt hurt and send you packing. So much for compassion for the patients and wanting to see them succeed. GRRRR!!!! I am so glad you're doing well now - and to hell with that doc. Goodness! >:o/
  3. I am tall as well, 6'2" - so I know all too well how hard it is to be not only freaky tall but overweight as an adolescent. I am still scarred to this day from the torture other kids put me through. My doc is Dr. Aceves in Mexicali - LOVE him. He did my band and will be doing my revision to the Sleeve in May as well. After having surgery in MX, I would take Almater Hospital and Dr. Aceves ANY day over a US hospital and docs. The difference is just black and white - and I agree, those that want to talk bad about Medical Tourism in MX are just straight up ignorant. The only thing I wish I could change about getting my surgery done in MX is I wish I had the ability to tele-port - the flying and traveling is a pain in the arse! lol Good luck with your surgery! Come back and let us know how it goes! Your doc is also a very good choice in surgeon!!

    Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

Anyone that said your medical records should be handed to you free of charge obviously have NEVER requested their records, or have requested from one of the few doctors/hospitals that doesn't charge. You absolutely have to pay for records. And how can anyone come on here and chastise this woman for being defensive?! My gawd, after the type of words that have been thrown at her in this thread and the simple fact that she went through this traumatic deal and someone hiding behind a computer had the audacity to call her bluff?! Wow I guess I wasn't aware that there is a VSG board "police-posse" that are determined to decide when to start riots over people's individual posts.

    ...and The Process Begins!

Good luck! I hope everything works out for you!!
  7. alfieo - the majority of us are addicts, and you can't expect to be able to make these changes just because you had surgery or because you "want" to. If that was the case there would be 100% success rate with any surgery. I firmly believe food addiction is a disease, and is genetic. I agree with what others have said about getting with a different therapist and a 12 step group, you need support. If your therapist you're seeing now isn't helping you with the changes you need, then it's time to move on and try someone else. With your addiction having such a strong hold on you, without proper intervention by a professional, you will "eat your way" through any sort of WLS. Try and find a therapist that specializes in bariatric patients, most "normal" therapists don't have a clue about WLS patients and how to treat them. Good luck, and don't be so hard on yourself - just make the commitment to get clean!
  8. SO jealous of you all! My date is yet to be set bc I am self-pay, but I think it will be sometime in May. YAY - so happy for you want2bthin!!! make sure and check back with us and let everyone know how you're doing!

    Lapband To Sleeve

There's a forum in here that's dedicated for band to sleeve revisioners. You might get more responses there. I am a future revisioner myself. Should be getting my revision sometime in May.

I Wish Someone Had Told Me....

I can't believe some people are even remotely trying to compare this surgery with a C-section! In a CS they cut through your MUSCLE WALL. Which is a lot of the post-op pain and discomfort. When you have arthroscopic surgery it's nothing close or even comparable to that....
  11. Chyna - you will be in the BEST hands with Dr. Aceves. No question about it.

Sleeve Secret? What Do You Say?

Now here's someone that I am in agreeance with! LOL It's freaking NO ONE'S business. How RUDE of someone to say it in the first place. If I am not complaining to you about my food, then it's sufficient - go on about your waitressing business! :ciappa:
  13. Dana I was back to work 3 days after my band surgery, too. Everyone I've spoke with (and like Fluffy said) that had a revision of a band that had no band-issues said the pain was less than their original band surgery. I am going to try and have my surgery on a Thurs and be back to work on Monday. Shouldn't be an issue. I have a pretty sedintary job anyways!
  14. I am a bandster getting a revision sometime around June/July (depending on how long it takes me to save the $, I am self pay). My doc's stats are: We are happy to inform you that the latest follow up study shows that Dr. Aceves’ sleeve patients lose on average 96% of their excess body weight in under 12 months. Not all sleeve techniques are the same, some patients experience poor weight loss because of the surgeon’s technique. I trust my doc so much - he did great with my band surgery. I have no complications due to the band, just am not able to receive proper fill/aftercare here in the states like I had planned. I've only had 2 fills since my surgery Feb 4, 2011 and have lost right under 40 lbs. Can't wait for my sleeve bc I won't have to worry about follow up care other than labs, which ANY doc can do and my insurance will cover labs, but will not cover any sort of gastric adjustment. I really think that if I could see my doc 2-3 times a month I would of already been down 100 lbs or so by my year out - but that's just not how the cards fell for me. I am a fighter and I am not going to give up! I could of never afforded the Sleeve a year ago, but am going to be able to manage it now. Where there's a will there's a way. I need to find my happiness and sparkle again!! :ciappa:

LOVE my Bodymedia Fit (same as BodyBugg). Don't know anything about the Fit Bit.
  17. Anyone in IL know of doctors to do Fills for Mexico patients? I am posting this here bc the topics on the other forums for this never get looked at. I am about 2 hours Southwest of Chicago on the Iowa border. I am getting ready to schedule another flight down to my surgeon to get another fill, but wanted to make another last ditch effort to try and find a doc closer to here that USES FLUORO and will treat me. I will not go to a doc that doesn't use Fluoro, I have learned my lesson the hard way due to that! I got a Doc name from another patient of my Doc's that was using this Dr for her fills - but when they found out I was banded out of the country they wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole! I thought about telling them where I got their name from and that they indeed WERE already treating a Mexico patient but I didn't bother. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

    Illinois Lap Band Fill Docs??

thank you - I've heard of them but haven't checked into them yet, I will now. Thanks again!
  19. Long story short- I wouldn't put anything past docs. I spent over $800 bucks out of pocket for fills to a surgeon who was doing nothing other than poking me and not ever putting any Fluid in my band over a period of 4 months. I finally went to my original Surgeon to find I had still only had 1.2cc in my band, when the fill doc I had been spending all the money and time at told me I had 7.5cc!!! I thought something was wrong with me or my band, that I had that much fluid and felt NO different. So the bogus surgeon that was doing my fills was either injecting into my fatty tissue or not putting anything in at all. Thank God I flew down to my doc finally to get a leak test and get 6cc's put in. 7 months post op I finally felt restriction for the first time ever. I don't trust anyone here to touch me now!!

    Are u ever not hungry

And this is a BAD thing HOW????????????? LOL Be HAPPY for it!!! It's MUCH easier to REMIND yourself to eat than to try and control your addiction to not want to stop!

    Mourning food

I went through the same thing Kristal - I did STRANGE things and even surprised myself!! I have NEVER been a food "hider" and binger - just always overate at meal times. A couple weeks before my surgery I bought a pack of chocolate covered honey buns and HID THEM above the cabinets so my husband and son couldn't steal them and eat them!! LOL I thought i'd lost my mind... if you read my blog I think I even made an entry about it. Of course - my fear was for NOTHING because I am 7 mos post op have 7.25cc in a 12cc band and can eat whatever and however much of anything I want. THAT'S for another post though.... Don't beat yourself up - it's normal!! We're all ADDICTS - we respond and do as addicts do!
