    Gas Pain!?

Great advice Oxy, I will take it to heart. My surgery is Tuesday and you are so right. I have lost many pounds too and found that portion control and exercise are the only key to success. Thank you for a great reply.
  2. I have done it right all the way, From my first meeting twith my surgeon to today. Haven't cheated on preop, went to 5 support group meetings in 6 months, and completed all insurance requirements. Read a zillion posts on LBT and made some wonderful friendships along my journey. Right now my mind is about 99% on board. Its that last nerve that''s bugging the c__p out of me. That big question, " Am I doing the right thing" ? I have read some uplifting and encouraging posts out there. I guess what I need to hear today are some personal stories about food after the band. I'm not looking to ever continue the way I've been, I'm just looking to understand my eating habits won't look like an albatross when I'm with others. Please help me to resolve this one remaining issue I seem to be having. I'll LOVE U forever. :Banane01: It seems I've written about 2 things. Bear with me I'm a little nervous.

Just when I thought this fat girl beat the lap-band...

Thank you for posting your story. I will be banded this next Tuesday. I will keep what you have said close to heart. I'm happy you have finally found your sweet spot. You are an inspiration. I wish you luck from now on.
  4. I have done it right all the way. From my first meeting with the my doctor to today. Haven't cheating on the preop, went to 5 support meetings in 6 months, and completed all insurance requirements. Read zillions of positive posts on LBT and made some wonderful friends through this process. Right now my mind is about 99% on board. It's that last nerve that that won't stop bugging me. I need a few more positive inputs about lap-band and eating after surgery. I don't want to look like an albatross while out with friends. I'm not looking to ever continue my old eating habits in any way. I just want to fit in and not look strange. There are friends I adore but will probably never know about my surgery, I hate to say they sometimes tend to be negative and I just don't want to hear any of that. And of course the question that has haunted many of us right before surgery, Am I doing the right thing? I would LOVE YA FOREVER if you could send me a little support on these two things.
  5. Southern Leo you sound like me. I go in Monday morning for my preop testing and will have surgery Tuesday or Thursday. I went out and bought some clothes to wear home and will pick up a few things like Water, broth and some yogurt. Will wash the sheets on Monday try to rest so I will hopefully have my surgery on Tuesday. Hopefully all my ducks will stay in a row... Let me know how you do.
  6. Dear Dave, Thank you so much for you kind words of encouragement. I appreciate your sense of humor. I will try my best to take your advice and try to relax and let the process happen. I always forget about giving things to God before trying to handle them myself. After reading your words " I should be proud of myself" I think it has become clear in my view that that statement is true. I truly am proud of the steps I have taken to have a better life for myself. I will follow your advice about sipping away and wearing out those cute slipper sox's they give you. ( Oh, I hope they have PINK) All kidding aside, I appreciate that you took the time to respond to me. Your advice will be taken to heart and remembered. With Sincere Appreciation, Linnie

OLE' You've made my day. Thank you everyone for all the replies. I'm so glad I will be able to still get my crunch on. Right now I'm on day 6 of my pre op diet. Its been a struggle at times but at this time I can say I haven't cheated. Scheduled for surgery on the 23rd of December. Wish me luck cuz I still don't have approval. I'm sure I will. Could use a prayer though. Thanks again for your replies.

    1st day of a 10 day pre-op

I'm on day 4 of preop diet. Doing Optifast with sugar free jello, popsicles and fat free or low fat broth. Today seems to be the hardest. Haven't had any jello yet. Will have one today just to have a different texture in my mouth. Cheers to everyone during this somewhat difficult time. One day at a time. I really get that now. Bravo to us all !!!!!!!

Thank you for the heads up on the Apricot Chicken dish. I will put that in my filing cabinet.

Dec 23rd is the big day!

Hi Becky, I'm scheduled for my lapband on the same day. Are you in your preop diet phase? I'm on day 4 today. Feeling more hungry today than I have. I hope this levels back a little. My doctor requires using Optifast for the 14 day preop. I feel like you do excited but nervous, which is normal. I have been on lapbandtalk since I decided to move forward in this journey, It is a endless pit of great information. It's been my bible for lap-band information. Try to stay away from the negative comments. They're out there but that not the norm responses you will find. Always those few apples in every bunch. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing,

    Walking in Faith

Thank you Cheri. I called Humana yesterday and the nurse that I talked to told me that I should get approval before my surgery date. I'm still holding my breath a bit until someone tells me YOU'RE APPROVED. I do feel more confident that all our prayers will be answered. Thank you again for yours.
  13. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow but don't have approval for surgery yet. God willing the approval wiil come soon. I have a date of December 23 for sure if approval comes through. I may also get moved back to the 21. Please say a prayer for me that Humana comes through or I've spent all this money on Optifast for nothing and starved through all the Christmas celebrations.. Does anyone feel like they're about to lose one of their best friends? I do . I know this must be normal but it stinks. This too shall pass. Thanks to everyone out there and God Bless Us All.
  14. I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow and paper work should be submitted for approval shortly there after. My question is how long should I expect it to take for approval or God forbid denial? Thanks for any info you can share. Getting anxious for this to finally become reality.

    Humana Select Insurance

Hi Derby, Thanks for responding to my post. I went to my surgeon today and I'm hoping to get approval by next Thursday. He gave me a date for December 23 or possibly the 21 if another patient does not get approval. I to am a teacher and would love to have my surgery done while on Christmas break. I will need to start my 2 week fast this coming Thursday to be able to have my surgery. I plan on calling Humana on Monday. I am so prepared for this to happen. I am thankful that Humana made me wait the 6 months. It gave me time to do my research and make a sound decision about having Lapband surgery. Do you have a date yet? I live in St Petersburg. Dr Huguet is my surgeon. I really like him and feel comfortable with him. He has a very compassionate way about him. Let me know where you are in your journey, Hope to hear from you soon.

    Bye Bye Buffet!

Great response Ravey. I'm waiting for the day I can say those words too. I hope to be banded close to Christmas and can't wait. I have had a lot of time to think about this decision and I know in my heart its the right thing to do. I want to feel exactly like you do. In fact I believe I already do. Its quote like yours that give others like us hope. Thanks you.
  17. Thank you Firechic. I appreciate any info I can get.
  18. Hi Boo, I just posted something to you at another posting but found your profile and decided to write you here too. I'm kinda knew at understanding how this site works. Anyways, I have Humana Ins too and wondered if there is anything I should be aware about when it comes time for approval. I have done everything they have asked of me so far. I'm hoping to get banded late December. Also I noticed that you posted you have a low profile port. My BMI should be around 43 or 42 by then. I would love to get the low profile port. Thank you for any information you may be able to share concerning both issues. By the way, you look wonderful.

  19. Boo, I should have my band surgery near the end of December. I would like to get the low profile port now that I know it exists. I have a BMI of 44 as of today. I'm sure by surgery date it should be down at least 1 or 2 more points. Do you think I would qualify to get that type of port? Also I have Humana Select Insurance. Is there anything I should be aware of so that I get my approval? I would sure appreciate anything you could share with me. Thanks Linnie
  20. I live in Florida and have Humana Select Insurance. I'm almost ready for my doctor to request approval. Has anyone been turned down by them? My BMI fits into there approval requirements but I have no other health problems except joint pain. Can anyone give me some information that would be helpful to ensure approval? Thanks for any information you can provide.
  21. You look wonderful. I'm hoping to be banded in December. I'm 59 and looking forward to my new life. I'm not trying to be nosy but are you anywhere close to my age? What is a good example of your daily food intake after you were banded? What ever you did it worked and I would like some imput into what worked for you. I hope I haven't asked to much if so please just disregard. I just saw your pics and was so impressed I had to write and let you know. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks, Linnie

  22. Thank you Bob. I too have postponed doing this for over 3 years. Telling myself, "Oh I don't need this surgery, I can do this by myself". Hence 40 lbs later and 3 years. I'm hoping to have surgery in December. Posts like yours are so encouraging to read. They mean so much to those of us still waiting in the wings to fly. I am so thankful my insurance company has required 6 months of supervised nutrition guidance. This has given me the time to completely recognize the benefits of this surgery and to fully accept the responsibilities that go along with it. I have done my homework. I'm excited and ready for my new life. Hearing your words not to mention the fact they were spoken from a man ( you guys don't normally share your feelings) has more impact on me and the benefits I'm so ready to experience. Thank you for opening up and sharing. You are an inspiration.

    What's for dinner tonight?

That's exactly what I'm looking for Wren. Thanks for the imput.

    What's for dinner tonight?

WOW, there are so many wonderful things you all are eating. I have not be banded yet, but everything I seem to know about eating after the band seems contrary to what some of you are eating. Rice, shrimp, pasta. I sure hope that I will still be able to eat these things in moderation. You have encouraged me tonight that there will be life after banding.
