I called my insurance today asking the questions. I was told that they decide on a case by case basis. I told her I was worried about having to go on a diet that would waste another 6 months to prove something I already know. She said there is no way of knowing until the surgeon applies. Then BCBS will evaluate and decide what is needed further.

Thanks so much for your reply. Great info. I will call my insurance tomorrow and ask them. I was waiting till I could afford to do it and now I found out that insurance will pay. I feel like I wasted years waiting. May your journey take you where you want to go! Happy and Healthy!

I have a bmi of 47, but no heath issues other than the weight pain and shortness of breath. Does anyone think that will give me problems. I have no documented weight loss programs. I have BCBS of CT

Wow that was fast. I called 2 surgeons one told me I did need a referral and the other didn't call me back. I went to my doctor and she gave me a referral to one of the surgeons. That one called me and gave me an appointment for a whole month from now just to have my first question and answer session. The other doctors office called me back after the fact and were ready to ask the questions over the phone. I don't need a referral either. I think a month just to meet me is tooo long. I am thinking about calling the other girl back and answering her questions.

Mel54, How true... I told a girl friend co-worker and she was running around screaming and hugging me. I almost cried. She understood, she gets it. People like that are hard to find. I know going forward she will be my biggest fan! My husband has OCD for rules. I told him he can come for surgery, but nothing else. I don't want him knowing the rules and looking over my shoulder every second. I am afraid it will cause resentment instead of being motivational. I asked him how much he thinks I weigh. He said about as much as me; LOL! Got to love the man. I don't have the heart to tell him the truth. So he will just enjoy the change and root for me.

I got my referral today. I have my first appointment with Dr. Miles office August 26th! I am so excited to finally at least get started!:cursing:

Well I told my husband, kids, sister, boss and mother-in-law. I had to tell my boss because I eat lunch with her everyday alone and we compare food. She is excited for me... I wish I didn't tell my mother-in -law because she is sooo judgemental. She said the OMG why would you do that!!! HELLO!!! Your kidding right. I am not telling my mom.. she is the main factor in my weight all my life. My husband and kids are the best!

Hey Amanda, Same as me I have been reading and reading on this site and every youtube video I could find. I have been here 3 days now ... First you make the decision for yourself then you wait till you dare to tell someone LOL ... Congratulations on your decision.

I called my insurance company. Then I went to their website and looked at the hoops I would have to jump through. I also called a Dr.'s office and found out what they needed. I have BCBS of CT they will cover 100%.. Try calling and just asking straight out. The girl was really helpful and I didn't have to tell her my weight or personal info. I have no health issues except for the pain of the weight, but I think my BMI puts me right into the free slot. You are up there with me. So call :smile2:

Good for you! I have a 20 yr old Son and a 17 yr daughter. Because I was so heavy I have not been any fun. You are doing this at a great time for the right reasons. No this is not the easy way out and yes a lot of people think that. I had to stop myself the other day from starting another diet. Not good!!! We can do this! I will be able to sit on my husbands lap again. So many things I have not done over the years. I will make up for them all as soon as I can MOVE! :smile2:
