  1. :pout: Got a letter back saying that my insurance will not cover the procedure due to plan "exclusion" of weightloss surgery. No way I can afford to finance it so I may as well give up. Or, at least, it's not something I can do in the near future.

    LapBand dreams up in smoke...

Well, it's a plan exclusion so I don't think that there is anyway that I can fight that and my credit is not good so I can't finance it. And I just couldn't be okay with having surgery in Mexico (call it prejudice or paranoia, but I'd be worried about corners being cut somehow). I was talking with a girlfriend at work and we were thinking of being diet buddies or something since we have the same problems with losing weight. We have scales at work and thought maybe we'd have some accountability and motivation if we had weigh-in days in front of co-workers, lol. I love all my co-workers on my shift, those girls are great. This LapBand thing was a big let down, though. It stinks. I REALLY need help with portion control. I just don't have the will power to do it myself. I guess I'll have to find it somehow. Cross your fingers for me, or plant a money tree in my backyard.
  3. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and the doctor recommended that I lose weight as it would help reverse the related insulin resistance and would help with other PCOS symptoms. I told him about my frustrations with trying to lose weight and he said with the PCOS/insulin resistance and my current weight that I would meet the criteria to be a candidate for the Lap-Band. He referred me to a Lap-Band Dr and I had a consultation and am filling out the paperwork now. I've already met my deductable this year with my insurance (United Health Care) and am scheduled to attend the required before-surgery seminar on December 4. I'm 284 lbs and 5'7" and getting the Lap-Band would be the best Christmas present ever I look forward to hopefully joining you Bandster's next month! Just wondering does anyone else here have PCOS?
  4. The seminar just went over everything in the booklets. But I did like that one of Dr Meyer's patients was there and she stood up and told us her story, showed us before-pics and even lifted up her shirt to show us her scars and where her port is. She got emotional and lots of the girls there (including me ) had tears in their eyes listening to her and how the band has changed her life. They also had a nutrionalist and a psychologist there who had a few things to say. I was happy to hear that they have weekly support meetings with fellow bandsters. Just have to wait on my insurance to let me know what to expect financially.

    United Health Care

I am on the Choice Plus plan. $2500 deductible. I believe on this plan I have to come up with 20% after the deductible is met (it is this year). I won't be able to get it done by the end of this year if I have to come up with 20% because I know it's an expensive surgery. But, I come up on my renewel here in about a week and I could upgrade to the Performance plan to get the $1000 deductible for next year but I don't know if it's worth upgrading to. I don't have a bunch of health problems. The only regular meds I'm on is birthcontrol and Metformin I was recently put on. I'd hate to have a bunch held out of my check for insurance I don't use a whole lot, you know? Crud. I guess I might have to put the tax return to good use...
