I do liquids for the day of fill and then mushies the next. Try protein shake or creamy soups. As mentioned, take yor mind elsewhere if you can!

Listen to what your doctor has to say; obviously if he does both he'll be able to advise you best! I liked the band because I didn't alter my anatomy and it can be removed if necessary. I'm in Canada and neither is covered by insurance so....I think also depending on the amount you have to lose, if you have more he may recommend the gastric.

Yes, I've been there....but didn't leave the office without getting some of it taken out. Probably now you'll have to wait anyways, but next time, I wouldn't leave feeling that way! Hope you can get back in tomorrow if you need to!

I don't know if it's the feeling I crave, but I do crave the habit of eating chips, etc. To be honest I have still done that since banding....I fall off the wagon sometimes. Just have to get back on. At least you are realizing that it's feelings you're really trying to medicate! Try to find something else to do - go for a walk, call a friend, get out of the house if you can & away from your temptations!

Not Hungry But Want To Eat + A Rant
1shauna1 replied to Kami172000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you, but you may only need a small fill to get to a good level. It may feel otherwise now, but don't push it with the fills, your doctor knows what he's doing. Being too tight is no picnic either. Good luck! -
It's probably just because you've been prodded there for a while, and you went and did some vigorous exercise after. Take it easy a few days and you should feel better!

Help With "stuck Incidents"
1shauna1 replied to lassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't drink when I'm stuck. You could try papaya enzymes (get them at drugstore with vitamins) or sometimes it just has to come up. A lot of times, yes, it is because I've eaten too fast or too big of bites. But there are some foods I just can't tolerate anymore, like bean sprouts or doughy breads. For most of us this will happen at least once; it's not the end of the world although it may feel that way (my first time I thought I was dying!). As mentioned, yes moving around helps, don't put more food on top. Stress, dehydration and sadness make me tighter too. -
Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
1shauna1 replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, but if you can't get solids down, you should get fluid removed. Why torture yourself? I've been there a few times and I know how much fun it is....NOT! Generally your weight loss slows down when you're too tight too so....up to you but there's no need to just suffer! -
Does Our Age Make A Difference?
1shauna1 replied to whitneyrenees's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm coming up on 40 (eek) and yes, it's true as you get older your metabolism slows and it's more difficult to lose weight. So, hopefully it will be easier for you and you'll get to your goal sooner. Good luck! -
I take the Caltrate chewables. There are 3 flavours. They have 1500 mg of calcium and only like 5 calories.

Geez, No Weight Loss Then A One Lb Gain. What Am I Doing Wrong? 2 Weeks Post Op
1shauna1 replied to biloxiblue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you're not eating enough? 600 cals is pretty low. Also, you're still healing right now so don't focus so much on the weight loss. You may even gain as you start the solids. Just do what you're supposed to be doing and you'll be okay, especially when you go for your first fill. -
I usually get an appetizer. I seem to always have issues in restaurants, don't know why.
-
I hear ya....I have issues with seedy berries and things like oranges with those fibres. Also, apples if they're not peeled!

Why Protein Powder?
1shauna1 replied to IL_MissKitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you're first banded, you're on liquids only, so you need your protein from somewhere. I use it to supplement. In the mornings I'm not too good with solid foods, so I like to take a protein shake to work and I can get part of it in. I like the pre-mixed Premier Protein shakes (30 gms protein; 1 gm sugar, 1 gm fat); I get them at Costco. -
I was told 60-80 gms per day. And I believe your body can only use so much protein at a time, like 20 gms, so you need to space it out throughout the day. I didn't hear anything about organ failure, but I guess if all you ate was protein your body wouldn't be too happy with you.

Just Wanna Kick Myself In The Arse!!
1shauna1 replied to angelblessed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can be very hard if you're not getting the support at home. Have you talked to your family about how what they're doing makes you feel? If so, and they continue to do that, then you just leave the room while they're eating their junk. You need to take care of yourself. And if it takes 5 hours to eat something, you know you shouldn't be; 20-30 minutes per meal is the max, right? You can do this! You didn't spend this money and have a surgery to waste it, right? -
Shatarita - most docs recommend a day of liquids and a day of mushies after a fill. Also, next time drink some water in the office and see how it goes down. 6 cc seems pretty aggressive, I hope it works out for you!

I agree with Sunshyne, the chewable papaya tablets are great. You can get them at the pharmacy with the vitamins. I have heard pineapple juice works; however when I'm stuck I usually don't want to put liquid on top. It can make the feeling worse.

Awesome! Congratulations!

Feeling So Guilty About What I've Been Eating
1shauna1 replied to april22ky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, there's nothing you can do about it now, so just relax and go back to the stage you're supposed to be at. You'll be okay! -
I don't know but it sounds serious. Are you nauseous before you throw up? Could you be pregnant? I would check in with your doctor. Actual vomiting is dangerous for the band as it can cause slips.

I try to wait 30-45 minutes. Many people here seem to way 30 as well. As for standing, sometimes yes I get up and walk around but it's usually because something is stuck. Moving around helps it go down sometimes.
