What Does Being "stuck" Feel Like?
1shauna1 replied to JennyBee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes.....unfortunately most places I eat out, I usually get stuck. If I have to use the toilet and someone else is in the bathroom, I flush first. I'm such an old pro at it, I only have to bend at the waist and cough. Don't need to get on my knees or even crouch down. -
places in ontario to have the surgery

I was banded at the Slimband clinic in Toronto. However, they have sattelite offices and I know they do fills in London (and Kitchener). So, that might be an option for you; I can give you info about the cost etc. if you want. PM me if needed! -
I still love the idea of certain foods, and the taste....but many times I hate food for the amount I get stuck. I still think I obsess over it though. :-(

No, I've never had one, but I certainly hope yours improves soon! Sounds awful!

What Does Being "stuck" Feel Like?

I prefer to do it in a sink if possible (to exactly avoid that toilet backsplash!) however when in public, not always convenient!! Haven't had a toilet facial yet (luckily; cuz I do PB frequently in public toilets unfortunately ) -
Here is an example. I went out last night to Pickle Barrel in Toronto. I had a glass of wine as I usually do when out (often it loosens me a little, and plus I love wine!). I ordered some edamame to start and share (good Protein source!) and then an entree from their healthy menu, which was 2 small sundried tomato burgers (no bun) and "smashed" potatos (basically a couple of small red skin potatos smashed on the plate). It also came with asparagus. About 4 edamame Beans in, I was stuck. For the rest of the night. It sucked. I have leftovers for days though! (BTW I know I am too tight and am going for a defill on Thursday).

They are Papaya enzyme tablets; get them where you buy vitamins! -

Smiley - I agree if I put a liquid on top of being stuck, that's worse. Sometimes, you need to just get it up. I think almost everyone has had to do that at least once. I feel I'm a real pro at it (something to be proud of ). I just bend over at the waist and cough; up it comes (I'm currently too tight AGAIN and getting a defill this week ). I can't really eat Subway bread. Lettuce seems to be a veggie I can do sometimes. Today I had some salmon salad and it was okay....but definitely no bread! -
Perhaps your latest fill was too much then? It's been almost a week & you still can't eat, sounds like you are too tight. And you need to drink! Too much restriction can be a bad thing.

Certain foods, yes (like as mentioned, doughy breads, veggies with skins). I also find a big culprit is too big of a bite, and not chewing well enough, and then eating bites too quickly. That is one of the hardest things for me - small bites, chew realllly well, and then wait a bit in between bites to let the first one go down. -
If it doesn't stop, go to your doctor (regular, not band doctor). Doesn't seem like it would be weight loss related....take care of yourself.

Often I get the mucous, it's called "sliming". I find I get it a lot if I am feeling stuck on something...I think it's just a build up of saliva. Often you feel better after chucking that back up! With me, sometimes it seems weeks after my fill I am too tight. It happens. If you can only subsist on sliders (girl scout cookies), you really don't want to stay that tight. You might need a small defill.
-
Well, you haven't eaten anything since the surgery, right? So, what can you "move"? Try to relax. Once you get onto more solid foods, things will start moving!

*sigh* I've come to the conclusion I'm too tight. Going to try to get a defill next Friday before my vacation.

I drink these too! I never thought about warming it up, will have to try that! Thanks!

Honestly, I haven't found a good way yet. I never know, depending on the day, how tight I'm going to be. Although most of the people I eat out with know I've been banded, I still feel bad taking so long to eat. They always tell me not to worry and take my time, but I still feel that pressure. For right now, I prefer to eat alone. But at restaurants, there are some things I know I can't eat, like deep fried, Asian dishes with bean sprouts (they just don't work for me)....I usually prefer to order a soup (I know, not the best for a bandster but I'd rather have that and get hungry again soon and not PB in a restaurant bathroom) and an appetizer. Sometimes I'll have a couple of spoonfuls off a friend's plate with a soup. And really, I find a glass or two of wine really helps at a restaurant. Seems to make things a bit looser. And then I still make my good choices.

For sure it's possible! However, results may be different in that you may have more loose skin. Of course, I believe that depends on your age too, and how long you've been overweight as your skin loses elasticity over time. I haven't been exercising but I know in combination with eating right it would make losses faster. I just feel like I have no time in my life to spend it doing something I don't really enjoy! I'd rather just take the dog for a walk (but she's a dawdler so I can't really count it as exercise, lol).

I can't do dairy in the mornings anymore. Try a hot liquid first thing, it can help open you up a bit.

Going Shopping...nervous!
1shauna1 replied to Jenn1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just ENJOY!! You have worked so hard to get to this point! As said, if you're still on your journey, buy some nice basics and maybe a couple of trendy pieces to get you through. I find you can get great prices at Old Navy and Gap stores in the U.S. for basics (outlets are even better!). -
Peanut Butter Cherrios?!?! Must only be in the U.S. so far....damn those would be good!

Stomach Virus With Lap Band
1shauna1 replied to lfruge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ug, this is the worst! I find since being banded "real" vomiting is hard to do. Mainly because it has such a small opening to come back up through! The couple of times I've been sick to my stomach, it was NOT fun. Remember, you have a band around your stomach now and it's probably irritated just as if you had a bad bout of PBing. Stick to liquids for a couple of days and you'll be better soon! -
This may sound bad, but I drink often. And I don't find I get drunk THAT much quicker. Sometimes alcohol helps loosen my band if it's a bit tight and I'm having a stuck day. I usually drink once a week (a few), maybe another night a couple glasses of wine. As above, many people get drunk quicker because they aren't eating as much, so just be careful.

Has Anyone Else Had A Hiatal Hernia Fix When They Where Banded?
1shauna1 replied to No Longer Banded!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had one repaired. I don't know if it made it worse....I didn't find my recovery too bad. Don't think the hernia repair made it any worse. Sorry you're in pain!
