  1. I am so happy for you Curves. You were worried for nothing. There is nothing like a good man at your side.

Personally, I just came out and told my husband. I had gone to see my PCP that day. I had told him that I was sick of being fat and read about getting the lap band. I expected him to discourage me but he was all for it and recommended the group that I had my surgery with. As soon as I got home I told my husband about my discussion with my doctor and said that if the insurance approved I would be doing it. Generally I discuss things like this beforehand but I just didn't want him shooting the idea down. Once I told him about it he knew there would be no amount of talking that would get me to change my mind (if he wanted to). So while he said he wished I had tried harder on my own (he just doesn't get it) he would be there for me and has been. I love that man

April - my situation is the same as yours. My husband met me when I was hot to trot and I'm sure he is waiting with bated breath for me to get back - or close to - the size he met me at.

Tammy - that's pretty cool that your husband is getting banded too.

  2. Thanks everyone.

Enigma and Jemo I see what you mean about the gas - oh...my...goodness. i literally thank God everytime the gas is released.

janet - i can't wait for that day. i'm actually getting a digital camera so i can take pictures of my journey. i will be sharing them eventually.

  3. Yes! I finally get to participate in this thread. I posted it in another thread but here's my story:

I got to the hospital at 8 am yesterday and was sent into the preop room as soon as I finished some paperwork. From there on I met with the department nurse and OR nurse, 2 anesthesiologists and my surgeon. Everyone was great. I was supposed to go into surgery around 9 according to my surgeon but she got an emergency case so i ended up going after 12 pm. the only thing i remember was the anesthesiologists giving me that pre anesthesia numbing agent and then inserting the anesthesia iv after that. when i woke up i was in the pacu (recovery). i was awake in there for about (im guessing) before i was transferred to a room. i would say i was a great patient. i got up and walked almost immediately and made it a point to walk around the floor every hour. i was able to leave the hospital a little after 10pm. all in all it was a very positive experience.

  4. Thanks Ladies for the encouraging words. We're a new board but already i feel such great comraderie (sp?) here. when 1 rejoices we all do.

It can only get better from here. I had to give in and take a pain medication and am feeling pretty good right now. 5. Everything. I used to be an avid exerciser in my teens and early 20's. I want to be like that again. I also hide from the world because I feel unacceptable and can relate to not wanting to see people from my past who knew me when I was in shape. one time i was at a laundry and saw a chick - she was no lady - that lived in my building years ago. she said "man! you got fat!" I was so dumbfounded i didn't know what to say. when i was small i was fairly attractive (not being conceited) and i think some people relish when you're attractive and get fat so they could make these types of comments.

  6. I have to say I LOVE Dr. Kurian!!! She is the BEST!! The staff on the other hand.... at least that's been my experience there. I'm thrilled that you had such a great experience and are going in so quickly. Congrats!!!

I somewhat understand what you're seeing Eeyore (cute screenname btw). In my experience since this visit they have been somewhat schizophrenic. You know how it is when they need info from you they are super sweet but when you call for info their impatient and kind of rude. I just let it roll over my shoulder.
