  1. I've also been following Kellawanda. I'll have to check out the new ones. My husband keeps making little comments that people tell him i'll leave him after I have this done. And points out my aunt left my uncle after having the bypass done. I just tell him if he is treating me right he has nothing to worry about. He doesnt show much affection. This has been an on going problem. I think sometimes this surgery has an effect on our spouse because they fear us finding our confidence.

  2. @Christina, thanks for being my buddy! LOL. I look forward to cheering you on through the process. One of the cool things is that I've got the same goal as you (145). And no, I don't think you're crazy for writing those things down, you're prepared. Have you thought of maybe leaving a love note there, too? ;) I think I'm going to work on that this weekend. I went for my pre-op appointment with the anestheseologist (sp?) yesterday and they gave me info on a living will. I need to look that over too.

@ teh ericka, you're right. I need to keep remembering why I'm doing this surgery. I keep looking at my babies and wondering what would life be like for them if I wasn't here. Instead, I've got to look at them and keep remembering how great life is going to be for them WITH me here. I'm going to have more energy to play with them. I can look forward to being around for them well into my old age and theirs! God-willing, my high blood pressure is going to be gone, I won't have such a high risk of getting diabetes, my sleep apnea will probably go away. All that leads to better energy which makes everything better. When are you going to be sleeved?

Anissa, That is such a sweet idea. Have you started your pre-op diet? Im going to start on Sat. I also set an appt with the head Dr. I just know how I am and I think it will help me with my relationship break up with food. :) I asked my husband if it was going to be weired me not eating when he is. He said he is going to try to cut down on his portions. He is Military and works out everyday but love his Snacks. I think this new way of life will be good for my kids in the way I am not going to cook as many carbs. CHEERS TO US!

  3. Hi Christina,

Congrats on your surgery date! I live in Tamarac, FL (west of Ft. lauderdale) so i would love to join the Florida gang. I'm in the "chossing my Dr." stage (Dr. Almanza or Dr. Cure/Colombia). Hopefully i can make a decision in the next few days. I have an appointment with my PCP on Friday so we will see if she is onboard with my WLS proyect. I will work on setting up my ticker.....When do you start your pre-op diet?

    :crying:

WooHoo someone who lives near me! Welcome! We can go to the Hard Rock when we get sexy. LOL. I hope you have better luck with your PCP than I did. Maybe if yours is on board I can go to her too. I start my pre-op diet starts Saturday.-Yuk- There is many people on here who have used Dr. Almanza and can give you great info. Next week I will be able to give you some great info. I call my Pt coordinator almost every other day with questions. But she always takes the time to make me happy. Best wishes on your new journey.

  4. Hello lovelies!

I've been lurking these forums for quite some time in my research stages (I can definitely relate to the above "obsessed" posts!) and I thought I'd chime in with some support etc.

I don't have a surgery date scheduled yet but I'm pretty sure I'll be going with Dr. Almanza/Ponce De Leon as well. Please be sure to keep us all updated on how your surgery goes! I can't tell you how indispensable the information here is, it's truly a blessing to hear from you ladies.

Quick question -- I see Melissa's name has come up a few times, but I haven't seen the name "Mt. Zion Medical" come up yet, which is what I've been looking at. Is this the same thing? Clarification would be awesome!

Hello and welcome. I just sent you a PM with Melissa's info.

  5. Why do they think you will feel sick all the time?? And tell your mum that you probably stand more chance of dying from the obesity!! It's only natural that the people who love you will be scared but you need to make your decision as it's your body and life when it comes to it.

Hi jane. My aunt had the bypass done a few year ago and she has had many problems. She looks like she is on deaths door step. I have told my mom over and over that the VSG is not the same but she is ALL KNOWING! Over the past few weeks I mention my surgery date and she acts like Im not really doing it. She says things like you better not and you need to stop. Plus she is closed minded when it comes to doing anything out of the US. I guess she will see its not a joke when I call her from Mexico.

  6. Ah Yes, I remember...South Beach....

We will definitely have to get together after our surgeries. I live in Palm Bay. I know your surgery is coming up. Any progress with getting the husband back on board?

Yes, I just have 7 days to go! And Im already packed. HeHe. Hes getting better. He still is giving me crap. I think he is scared but trying to act tuff. Sometimes I just wish he would just say hes worried.

Hey did your friend make up his mind? Its funny because I figured him out. lol

We should set a goal date to meet. Like 3mo. or 4 or....

  7. I just left my PCM's office and I told her that I'm having the VSG done in Mexico. Lets just say she told me not to come see her if I have any problems. I told her I understand and I would go to the ER. I told her that I would come see her for any blood work and things like that. She said that would be follow up care and I can't come to her. Now correct if I'm wrong but I have the right to have blood work done. And I guess I will have to make sure I drink lots of Water because I would be S.O.L if I get dehydrated. I just don't know what to do. forumbox_top_left.gifforumbox_top_tile.gifforumbox_top_right.gifforumbox_left_tile.gif

  9. Who are you going to?

When I finally had my mind made up I had gotten my BMI down to 32.6 but it had taken me a year to get there and was starting to gain again. I am not sure how big my Bougie is but I know it only hold 3 oz. I know it is scary pre op to think of only eating 3 oz and being happy but honestly it is wonderful! I wouldn't have any other way. I dont have a VSG though I have the TGVP.

Hello Mellifrits, I will have my surgery Aug 18th with Dr. Almanza. I will talk to him about what the best size for me would be. I'm a little worried about losing too much weight and acid reflux.

  10. Hi, I was 40.5 and am now 22.something. My approx bougie size was 40. The bougie is the guide they use to staple round to shape your new stomach. The higher the number the greater the diameter of your tubular stomach in cross section. I was told my stomach should have a capacity between 125 and 150ccs, if that is any help to you all.

    Jane x

Hello Jane, The reason I asked the question is because I read that the larger the bougie the less problems you have with acid upset. Did you have any problems?

  11. Christine, I would love for you to be my buddy. It does suck that we aren't going the same day. This way though, you will be able to tell me all about what to expect. I do think we should start our own Florida group though. That way we can motivate and encourage each other and get together for fun!!! I found out that Dr. Almanza and dr. Ponce de leon share the recovery house. So it's the same house. My family has been supportive since telling them last week. My father insists that my mother go with me, instead of a friend that I have already asked. That's alright, I'm not going to argue against my mother going. She is somewhat nervous going though, as she is legally blind and will be in a foreign country. I told her I would still be able to see :crying: I can't wait to feel confident and sexy again. I haven't felt those things in a long time. I've chosen to isolate myself instead. I'm over it and ready to live life again.

Tamboo is your name Tammy? I think a fl support group would be great idea. I am happy to hear you have so much support from your family. It must take a little stress off. I understand how you feel about looking foward to feeling confident and sexy again. I live near South Beach and can't even enjoy going out there because I feel out of place. Fighting with my husband because I never have anything to wear out has taken a toll on our relationship. Im most looking foward to seeing if my attitude about life changes.
