    5 months post op today

Thanks. And yes, 64 lbs in 5 months is crazy For food, I am generally right around 800-900 calories, with around 70 grams of protein. I am low carb, but not super low, so I'm happy between 50-80 grams net (excluding my fiber). My typical day includes: Breakfast: Coffee w/ sugar free creamer and a Protein shake. I add a fiber supplement as well. Lunch Varies, but something like chicken salad on whole grain bread (1 slice) or ground chicken w/ beans and taco seasoning Dinner Varies as well, but generally chicken of some sort with veggies. I generally don't snack. I have just started to feel hungry again so if I am really hungry I may have some greek yogurt. I also occasionally have a SF popsicle at night.
  2. I am exactly 5 months post op today, and am doing great! I'm not the biggest loser, but my loss has been fairly steady and I'm happy. So far I'm down 64 pounds since surgery (105 total) and a total of 40 inches since surgery (including 7 from my waist). Still a ways to go to get to goal, but I'm committed for the long run. NSVs I am walking around 2 miles most days. Pre surgery, I could walk but was in pain from arthritis and tendinitis after a very small amount I went hiking last weekend and did 6 miles pretty easily I've outgrown pretty much all my old clothes, even the "small" ones from storage My arthritis pain is significantly lower than it was I am not exhausted and falling asleep on the couch in the evening. (when we are allowed, I'd feel good enough to go out and do things on weeknights) I have my 6 month appt (via phone) in about 3 weeks and I'll get my blood work done before that, but I think things should be well since I'm doing well with food, fluid, and vitamins.
  3. At 5 weeks I was still on a restricted list from my Dr. and I followed that until cleared at my 6 week appointment for other things. At 6 weeks my Dr cleared me for anything that followed the Bariatric diet. Protein first, hitting 6-70 grams per day. Then veggies, then whole grains if room. Popcorn is on my no-no list forever.
  4. My hair loss is not slowing down. If anything, it's increasing. I've been losing for about 6 weeks now. Can anyone tell me how long the hair loss lasted? I am starting to get concerned that I won't have any left if this goes on much longer and I really don't think I'll look good bald! 😭

    Feeling Great? Too Good??

I’ve been very lucky and had no issues as well. I was very careful the first 6 weeks to follow my Drs plan exactly but I had no issue with getting fluids, protein etc. I’m almost 5 months out and have still only ever had 2 meals Not sit well. I consider myself lucky
  6. I'm curious what others are doing about clothes if you live in an area that's under extended Shelter In Place. Everything I have is too big, with much of it being absolutely unwearable (yay!). I don't want to buy too much since I'm still losing, but I do video conferences everyday so I need some things that work for work. I've tried ordering a few things online but I can't seem to get sizing right even when I measure. Anyone have any tips that have worked for you?
  7. Thanks. I am using stretchy comfy pants that last sizes so that’s one good thing about working from home - no one really sees your pants. It’s tops are another story. I tend to scoop or v necks and they are falling off my shoulders and sagging very low in the chest. I will try some clips in the back to see if I can make them decent I can do returns but need to leave the house to do them and am avoiding that as much as possible so I’ll have to see if I can find a brand I like and figure sizing out for it
  8. I noticed hair loss starting a few weeks ago (mid way through month 3). Now I am seeing a scary amount of hair coming out in the shower. I have really fine hair so it makes me nervous but I knew going in it was a possibility. So far no bald patches and it looks OK when it's down but if that changes I'll figure out if I need to cut it, where it up, etc... I have been taking Biotin since pre-surgery but as said, it just helps the new hair (Oh - and my nails look fabulous )
  9. Congratulations! So very happy for you.
  10. I'm almost 4 months post op and I am officially in the hair loss phase I was hoping I'd be one of the few lucky ones but after watching the amount of hair loss gradually increase over the last couple of weeks, I am accepting it. I have very fine hair, but lots of it so I'm hoping it won't become visible. I'm also taking the opportunity of working from home to not dye it or other things that generally increase loss. Keeping my fingers crossed. For those of you who also had loss, how long did the increase loss last?
  11. My surgeon had me lose weight before he would book the surgery. He also said he may have me do a liquid diet and he'd let me know at my pre-op appointment. Since I lost above and beyond what he wanted, he did not make me do the liquid diet. He just cautioned me that if I gained the surgery could be cancelled. The way I lost pre-surgery was to start eating mostly the way I would after - protein first, then veggies. No sweets or alcohol. It was 5 months from first appointment to surgery (I was "at" goal weight at 3 months and just had to get on the schedule and keep the weigth off).
  12. LOL to shaving my head. I'm pretty certain it would not be a great look on me, weight loss or no
  13. I had bypass, but my surgeon did prescribe med to help prevent gallbladder. In fact, I took my last one this morning. I talked with him about the meds alot. Apparently, they can have side effects of both nausea and hair loss so he makes them optional. He did say, you must take them as a preventative measure - meaning you need to take them before you have issues as they will prevent, but not reverse. I chose to take them for 100 days although he was willing to prescribe for up to 6 months. Lori

    Go to meal

I know you said you aren't tolerating chicken well yet, but I do ground chicken, onion and taco seasoning. Because the chicken is ground it was easier for me until I could tolerate regular chicken. It's still something I make at least a couple of times a week. You can also mix in a can of beans if you want. It will make around 6 meals...

    Not losing weight

Agreed. My 3 week stall lasted 3 weeks, from about week 2.5 to about week 5.5. I was SO frustrated. But it broke and I've been losing since. At that time I went from weighing daily to weighing weekly. Doesn't change the numbers but at least I could not focus on them most of the week and just focus on eating my plan and walking.
  17. I was thinking this morning. With the current Shelter in Place requirements, working from home, and having to cook most of my meals - pre surgery I would have definitely gained weight. I would have eaten my feelings and stressed, and I probably wouldn't have made it a point to walk everyday. With this surgery I am losing weight. It's not easy. I am fighting head hunger every day. And yes, I'm still stressed, but walking is not only good physically, it's good mentally - getting fresh air and sunshine. Wishing everyone health and happiness. Stay safe and take care of yourselves! Lori

    Bacon....

I will occasionally have turkey bacon for either breakfast or dinner. (I never liked regular bacon --too fatty). I overcook it slightly so I still get a crunch. It isn't great on Protein so wouldn't work everyday or as a stand alone, but may be an option to rotate.
  19. I'm in the Bay area, and all 7 counties are now under a shelter in place order due to the Coronovirus for the next 3 weeks. That basically means that except for critical activities we need to stay home and we need to stay at least 6 ft from other people (non family). The good news is I have a job where I can work from home. The bad news is one of my major binge eating triggers is boredom, or really sitting on the couch watching tv. I'm working during the day (and its been really busy) and I've been walking the dog when I can (this order happened to come just as we are having a series of rain storm)s. I can't go shopping, movies, gym, etc... Thoughts on ways to stay occupied? Keep healthy all! Lori

    Three Month Mark

Congratulations! Your loss so far is amazing and I'm so glad you are feeling better. I'm just past the 3 months myself and am down 43 lbs since surgery (I was down >40 before surgery) and agree, I feel so much better.
  21. Is anyone else afraid/anxious of the scale? I'm almost 3 months post-op and my weight loss has been slower than I would like but not bad. However, I had a crazy long stall and I've had weeks where I felt like I did really well where I've lost less than a pound. I haven't had any really big weeks except for the first one. For the last couple of weeks I'm getting anxiety before my weight in. I already dropped to weekly from daily to try to help. Tomorrow is my weekly weight in day and I'm already feeling anxious even thought I've been within my macro goals each day (high end for protein, low for carbs and fat) and been within my calories. I've also been upping my walking - both pace and distance. I feel like clothes are fitting looser but I'm STILL anxious. I've thought about just not weighing, but that makes me more nervous since when I was gaining weight I'd skip the scale for long periods and of course it would show a huge jump when I finally got back on. Any thoughts from anyone whose experienced this?

    How often do you weigh?

Ditto what zoomzoom said - started out daily but with a LONG 3 week stall I switched to weekly and that's what I do now.
  23. I am almost 3 months post RNY (Tuesday will be the official 3 month day). Today I am feeling really good about where I am. I am down 41.8 lbs since surgery (83.4 since starting). In addition I have a few great NSVs: Lost over 25" total (including 5" off my waist and 4.5" off my hips) My arthritis pain in my knees is virtually gone I am walking 2 miles a day with ease Almost all my clothes are too big. A bunch I've had to pull to donate because they simply aren't wearable, and the rest are getting close. When we are out of social isolation I'm going to need to do some shopping before going back to the office. In addition, I had my 3 month group appointment last week and was released to drink caffeinated coffee again (just need to ensure I don't add a lot of high calorie items). SO Excited. I hope everyone else is doing well in their journey and staying positive during this trying time! Lori

    Fatigue?

Hi. I'm about 11 weeks out. At 5 weeks I was back to work but it was pretty common to fall asleep on the couch after work/before bed. It does get better. I want to say the last 2 - 3 weeks I've had a lot more energy (even more than pre-surgery). ~Lori
