    NSV

I’m almost 7 weeks out from surgery. When I first started my weight loss journey last July I was a 2x and they were tight. At surgery I was a tight 1x. Today I bought some XL shirts. Woohoo!

What is a girl to wear?

Like ms.sss, I had 2 hospital gowns and that was it. I took a robe and never unpacked it. I also took slippers but didn't end up using them, just the nonslip socks the hospital gave. In general I bought a bunch of things for the first few weeks that I really didn't end up needing.
  3. My loss has been slower than expected to. At 6 weeks I was only down 19 lbs. however I was in a crazy long stall where I lost < 1 lb for 3weeks. That seems to have broken in the last few days so fingers crossed. I did have to stop weighing daily as it was too hard mentally. other than that I’m feeling great.
  4. How are you all doing now that we are 6 weeks out?
  5. I will be 6 weeks out on Tuesday. The first 3 weeks I lost well (8.4; 3.8, 4.2). However, the last 3 weeks my loss has slowed down a LOT (.8, 1, and so far 0). Has anyone experienced anything like this and had their loss speed back up? I'm trying to keep a positive outlook but the longer the stall or slow down lasts the harder I am finding it. I see my surgeon and NUT on Monday and will be talking to them, but I'm just curious if this is the 3 week stall everyone talks about and if so, at about when it's normal for loss to pick back up. For reference, I was lucky to have a very easy recovery so I am getting 70+ grams of protein most days (always over 60). I am drinking between 70-100 oz of water a day. My calories are high for how far out I am (usually just under 800; 6 weeks) but that's because I still need protein supplements between meals. For meals, I'm eating 4 oz of soft protein (like chicken salad) and then if hungry some vegetables that are cooked soft. I will be hopefully be able to move onto more dense foods after my next appointment.
  6. I will hopefully be released to "normal" food next week, and am looking for some of your favorite healthy recipes. I plan on picking up some turkey breaks, chicken breasts and fish and then some veggies, but it would be great to get some ideas on what to do with them. I freely admit that pre-surgery I was a huge carb eater and most of my recipes and meals center around carbs so i'm trying to rebuild!

    Question on "3 week stall"

Thanks catwoman. Hopefully mine breaks soon!
  8. We have similar stats and surgery around the same time. I don't have much hunger, but I had a really easy recovery (yay!) and don't seem to have any food aversions or challenges with eating and drinking which means I've been able to push myself to meet my protein and fluid goals from early on. That means even though I'm limiting my meals to 3-4 oz lean protein (usually with light mayo or greek yogurt because I am still on soft foods, or I eat a lot of eggs) and then if I am still hungry some soft cooked veggies, I get almost 800 calories a day. Part of that is because I'm still using protein shakes to supplement I am seeing my surgeon and NUT next week for my 6 week. My weight loss has been really slow the last 3 weeks and I'm hoping it's just a stall and they'll have some advice to pick it back up.

    Question on "3 week stall"

Thanks - I have read a ton of the other threads on stalls, what I can seem to figure out is how long they usually last. Is it normal to be in a "Stall" for 3 weeks this early out or do you think something else is going on? I'm almost 6 weeks out and have lost 18 lbs, but 16 of that was in the first 3 weeks so I'm feeling pretty frustrated. Just trying to reinforce to myself that I'm not unique in this. Others have been through it and out the other side.
  10. I'm considering starting crossfit or a similar class but I haven't consistently worked out in years and I know I don't have much stamina or strength right now. However, in the past, this type of weight training based exercise is what I enjoy. Curious if others have done this and been successful when still 100+ lbs overweight and out of shape. OR, should I wait?
  11. Thanks Mi75. I think I'll schedule a drop by at a local CF studio and talk to the coach. See if I get a good sense of their willingness to help modify.

    Can I eat this

My plan allowed pureed beans on stage 2. I didn't use store bought refried beans since they tend to be higher in fat and some have chunks. Instead, I bought canned pinto beans and cooked them with spices then pureed them. As mentioned, best to check with your surgeon on what they allow to be sure.

    4 days Post-OP struggles

I'm a little over a month out from RNY and it does get better. The heaviness you describe could be swelling - you just had major surgery. I took my measurements before and about 3 or 4 days after and my abdomen was 3" larger at that point due to swelling. And yes, I felt very tired the first week. Again, you are healing from major surgery and taking in limited nutrition. I noticed an uptick in energy at around a week, and then another one at around 3 weeks. I did start forcing myself to walk 1/2-1 mile a day at a week and I think that helped (I live where it doesn't get too cold so the sun really did me good). Finally, water is no joke as you know since you have been hospitalized for dehydration. I made myself take a few sips everytime a commercial came on OR someone on TV ate or drank anything. Eventually I could do more than 1 sip at a time and now I can drink basically like normal. Good luck!

    4 weeks post RNY today

Hi ms.sss I do track food with my fitness pal. I’m weighing and measuring everything. For exercise I’m just walking now but plan on starting at a local gym at my 6 week mark. I know myself and if I can get I to a good lifting class I can keep it up where a treadmill or something I won’t.
  15. Today is 4 weeks post RNY surgery for me. - Down 16.8 lbs. I've had a couple of times where my weight has stayed stable for more than 5 days in that 4 weeks (including now). Still watching to see if a pattern emerges and trying to take it in stride (not always successfully). - No issues with liquids at all (yay!). I have been getting between 80 and 100 most days. - Eating up to 4 oz at a time. I haven't tried for more except with greek yogurt (I eat the whole container of the Oikos triple zero which is just over 5 oz). - On soft foods for the last 2 weeks and so far I've tolerated everything I've tried (eggs, Tuna, Ricotta bake, lunchmeat, etc...). I had chicken for the first time today (canned and made into chicken salad) and that went down well. - I can get my protein in but only if I do a couple of shakes (or max a premier out by adding some collagen). - Walking daily up to 1 mile. I go back to work on Thursday (I was VERY fortunate to take a full month off). I also plan on starting back with my rowing machine in addition to the walking. All in all I am extremely happy with how I've healed so far. I'm looking forward to continuing the journey. I have a lot of work ahead of me to get to a healthy weight but I am hopeful.

    Lap band to gastric bypass

I had my lap band out, then the RNY In a later surgery. Having the lap band out alone was a huge relief and I found it was easier to lose weight with it gone since I could eat healthy dense foods. My RNY surgery was also easier than I've heard many band to RNY people have - almost no pain, etc... It may be worth considering doing it in two stages if it makes sense for you....
  17. I had the band for over 10 years and finally had it removed due to many of the issues you are saying. With even the slightest fill I would wake up choking on acid. With no fill, I would still be unable to eat healthy foods and had heartburn regularly. While I had good initial weight loss, I ended up gaining in all back. I decided on RNY because my surgeon told me that even people who have never had heartburn or GERD see a greater risk of it with Sleeve. For someone like me who had it with the band, they felt this risk was really high that I would have it as well. I'm just about 3 weeks out from RNY and very happy with my decision so far. Still very, very early but following the plan and hopeful I'll continue in this path.
  18. Sorry for the duplicates!
  19. I think what I was experiencing was my 3 week stall, just really early. I lost all that weight the first 10 days, then only .2 for the next 7. I seem to be losing a little again now.

  22. I was RNY on 12/31, so almost 3 weeks out. I've been very fortunate that I haven't had any issues with fluids and am able to get in 80+ per day since the first week. I really have to plan to get close to my protein goals and still need a protein shake or high protein drink (I've been doing a decaf latte with Fairlife & Collagon = 23 G protein). I've been on soft foods for almost a week and so far everything has sat pretty well. I'm slowly introducing new things. I did hit my "3 week stall" at 1-1/2 weeks which played some mind games with me, but have started losing again which makes me happy. Hopefully I'll be consistent for a bit before I hit my next stall.
  23. I'm frustrated as well. It's 17 days since my surgery and I'm down 13 lbs, but 8.6 of that was in the first week. I KNOW this is marathon and am trying to tell myself: - I lost 42 lbs before surgery, so that initial drop of water weight, etc... already happened. - The last couple of months pre-surgery I wasn't losing even 2 lbs a week, and I am over that now - It's probably better to lose a little slowly from a skin perspective - My surgeon and team know what they are doing. I am following the plan they gave me Even with all the above, it can be a little disheartening to be this early in and already feel like a slow lower.
  24. HI! So glad you are doing well! I had surgery the same day and am doing well, but definitely not eating the same foods or amounts. My Dr. just released me to mushies and so far I've had Tuna salad and egg salad. For the tuna, it's one of the small packages with some mayo (about 2.6 oz) and for the egg salad, I made it with 2 eggs (total about 4 oz) but could only eat half. Today I'm probably going to try some lunch meat with soft cheese. Lori

10 days post-op and eating well.

I'm doing great. I'm still on modified liquids with no problems. I have struggled a bit to get all my protein in (I just can't seem to fit 2 protein shakes in with my "meals") but I've hit twice and think I've figured it out. I've had no issues getting water in even on day 1. I haven't tried anything not specifically allowed by my surgeon in this phase. I expect he'll release me to stage 3 Wednesday and I am beyond excited for tuna fish (how sad )
