  1. "At least I'm not a knucklehead"?
  2. I also had my VSG with Dr. Aceves, at age 25.
  3. Another reason that would explain why this happens specifically after overeating is because your stretched-to-the-limits stomach pouch is pressing hard on the vagus nerve. Pressure on the vagus nerve causes your blood pressure and heart rate to drop. You may have heard of old people passing out while straining on the toilet - same mechanism. If it was low blood sugar, chances are, you would never wake up after passing out.
  4. Set yourself some intervals and do it that way. E.g. run 5 mins, walk 1.5 mins. I find that I end up with better times doing intervals than running steadily.
  5. I think the issue with Star Jones was not so much about her having WLS, but rather her obviously having WLS and yet denying it as if we were all fools.
  6. I agree with people who said not to starve or overly restrict yourself. It's great if you are not going to have daily food funerals til September and avoid weight gain; dropping a few pounds would be the icing on the cake, but honestly, you cannot even begin to compare the amount of work needed to drop 5 lbs pre-op vs. post-op. However, I think it's a good time to start exercising regularly, if you are not already doing it - you'll have an easier time recovering and won't be as affected by the post-op muscle loss as you are rapidly losing weight.
  7. I do think you are overeating. You shouldn't have pain after eating otherwise. It can literally be a matter of a teaspoon of food. Even at 19 months out, one tablespoon can be the difference between satisfied and uncomfortably full.
  8. What about shredded chicken? Simmered in a slow cooker, maybe?
  9. Sounds hard to believe, because if they couldn't do it laparoscopically, they'd just do it open, in which case the size of the liver doesn't matter. Unless she explicitly refused to sign consent for open surgery in case lap failed.
  10. Urghhhhh....this reminded me of MY father, who I cannot stand. When I was a child/teen, he was always the first one to tell me I was a "fat cow," that no boy would ever be interested in me, and that he was "ashamed" to be seen next to me in public (OMG! I was a f-king size TEN as a teen!). Then when I got the surgery, all the a*****e did was deny ever saying anything to me about my weight....and the only thing he had to say to me when he saw me after I got to 150 lbs was that I had a "scrawny face." POS is out of my life right now and it feels AMAZING.
  11. Most certainly not! There are definitely sleevers 60+ on here!
  12. They should be able to! It's better that way - if you do it separately, then the 2nd operation would be more difficult because of adhesions.
  13. I actually picked up a coffee habit post-sleeve - mainly in an effort to minimize my soda consumption, which has worked well. I went through a coffee + half-n-half phase, but realized the calories were not much lower than in a latte, and lattes taste better, so I drink 1-2 lattes a day now. I just factor in the calories and eat less on days when I have 2.
  14. I think I hit the gym "hard" about 2+ months out - as in, bootcamp workouts. I started working out at low intensity before that - light weights, elliptical, etc.
  15. This made me laugh, because it reminded me of this: http://epistle.us/inspiration/godwillsaveme.html God Will Save Me A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately. A faithful Christian man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.” The neighbors came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in our car, please come with us!” But the man declined. “I have faith that God will save me.” As the man stood on his porch watching the Water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by and called to him, “Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!” But the man again said, “No thanks, God will save me.” The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into his living room and the man had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up and rescue you!” they shouted. But the man refused, waving them off saying, “Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!” The flood waters rose higher and higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop. A helicopter spotted him and dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer came down the ladder and pleaded with the man, "Grab my hand and I will pull you up!" But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thank you! God will save me!” Shortly after, the house broke up and the floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned. When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?” And God said, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”
  16. Not to mention, you won't be able to eat 3 oz chicken at that stage.
  17. I almost always use full-fat products. The only thing I can think of that I prefer to buy lowfat is Caesar salad dressing. First off, fat fills you up better; second, a lot of times the manufacturers replace the fat with sugar and/or weird chemicals. I always read the labels and it's almost always the case, so I usually go for full-fat options. That Caesar dressing is the only exception, because the lowfat version simply has more water than the full-fat, and no sugar or other weird stuff to make up for it. Plus I find the original one a little TOO creamy for my taste!
  18. Good luck to you with Dr. Aceves! There are certainly some crappy surgeons in Mexico. I am currently rotating through surgery and most of our patients are bariatric. Many of them have very severe complications from having bypass or sleeves in Mexico - we even have one person who is literally missing her entire abdominal wall as the result of her massive complications and will never be able to eat anything ever again - but I've been asking all of them who their surgeons were in Mexico and not a single mention of Dr. Aceves has come up yet.
  19. I'd toss the candy, plan some healthy meals for the week - I like to browse the FoodNetwork website for ideas - and make a grocery list. That way, I've got healthy meals planned and available.
  20. I'm also on Wellbutrin. I haven't really noticed any change in weight or appetite since starting it about a year ago. I was already at my current weight when I started taking it.
  21. Woah, that sounds pretty awesome!
  22. LOL! BKMama is right.....although the healthy amount of calories for a person of normal weight is actually more like 2000-2500, even more so if you are quite active. 1000-1200 is still a caloric deficit.
