  1. Hello All I was banded on 9/29 and since then I've lost 12lbs. I'm back active, walking at least 30-45 minutes a day. This unusually warm weather has helped. I don't go see my surgeon until Thurs and I believe I will get a fill then. They didn't add any fluid to the band during surgery so i can eat anything and I really hope the fill goes well becuase i'm afraid of old habits coming back. Including the preop diet I've lost 25lbs and I know that's awesome, I just need to get a handle on the food. What fills me up and keeps me full. Seems like my whole day is geared towards food: when did i eat? is it ok to drink? what am i going to have for lunch, dinner, breakfast? Once i get the nutrition down I think i will be OK.

    one week later

thanks guys for all the suggestions. I called my nutritionist and she recommended that I progress to the soft food stage and its helped. I'm also back to walking every day through the neighborhood for at least 30 mins. So far, so good. I'm down 12lbs from surgery so I'll take it!

    one week later

Im back up and at em. I'm still off of work but doing well. Surgery went well and healing is going well too, my only thing is I get tired so easy. I'm trying to increase my protein to fight it. Any recommendations?
  4. Wow so its not just me? I must admit I've derailed from the nutritonist list, but not completely. I called and told her that I was just not getting enough food and she allowed me to move from the liquid only to soft foods. I've eaten anything I've wanted. I try to keep it healthy but i must admit i've slipped and had pizza (thin crust). but since I've been eating regular, I've had more energy to do more. I had a problem with one of my wounds opening which landed me in the ER on Friday, but other than that its been smooth sailing. I'll see my surgeon on Thursday and hopefully I'll receive a good report.

  5. Hello All I'm sorry I've been laxed in getting back on line. I'm doing well. My procedure was a week ago today. It was a little longer than they expected but all went well. No real pain, i actually didn't fill the pain script becuase it was too strong. On tylenol extra strength. Trying to get the nutrition right. I need more protein. I lose strength so fast. My nutritionist said I could move to soft foods (a week early) so I can get more food in. How is everyone else? I am down 10lbs from surgery so in all I've lost 25.
  6. Im sorry to have been out of the loop for so long but I'm doing well. My banding went well, at least that's what the doctor told my mom, i dont remember much. Not a lot of pain after, nevr filled the prescription they gave me, i thought it was too strong. Its been a week and I'm proud to say I'm up and walking already, I just can't believe how quick I get tired.....enough about me, how are you?

thank you for the well wishes! I need them.
  9. Im doing OK. I am too busy to be worried at this time. I got my time today, I go in at 8:30AM I have to be at the hospital by 7AM. I have been doing OK with the shakes, but I am sick of them so I have been eating more (maybe stress) but I've been sticking to "good food" like egg whites and a little salad. I hope my surgeon doesn't yell at me when he sees my liver. I dont think i've eaten enough to cause a problem but I must be honest. the 2nd week was horrible for me. I miss food!

    T-8 Short term disability

Good Afternoon All Can I say errghh! I am so frustrted with the process to have my short term disability approved! FMLA is approved but now I have to go through hoops to obtain my companies funded short term disability while I'm out. I've been with the company for 12 years, you wouldn't think it would be this difficult, but oh well we will press through. Cheated last night and had some baked chicken wings and let me tell you its not worth it my stomach hurts! It did teach me however, that I don't have the willpower/lasting power I thought I did. I need this tool and won't make it without it. Until tomorrow...

I can't believe I am 5 days away from changing my life! I know I'm excited but work stress/frustration is stopping me from being truly happy right now. Its sad to say but my recovery time will be the first real vacation i've had in years and I can't wait!

Sorry for the late posting, but its been a crazy work day. One good thing came up today, my manager encouraged me to take my time coming back to work. Not to rush and think i have to come back ASAP. That was nice to hear. I think 2 weeks and a few days will be good. Talked with surgeons office today. They told me get milk of magnesium and it should relive the pressure in my stomach. The nurse believes I may be constipated. Go figure, i've never been irrelgular in my life but this preop diet is something special. I must admit I miss cooking and eating. I'm a southern girl at heart and I enjoy going home after a rough day and cooking a good meal. oh well, guess those days are over.

So who Didn't watch the Season Premier of "The Biggest Loser"????

I watched the show too but didn't care for the fact they made the contestants do a challenge that hard in order to make it to the ranch. I thought it was too soon for that which was evident by the people passing out. I don't know about the lapband but one of the girls on the show said she'd had gastric bypass and it didn't work for her. So sad as she was very young.

    Cookbooks for after surgery

OK someone asked about books. I went to Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon and was amazed at how many books there are on weight loss. There are even an increased number of cookbooks for eating after weight loss surgery. the most popular seem to be: Eating Well After Surgery, Recipies for Life After Weight Loss Surgery, and the High Protein Cookbook. Just thought I'd share! Oh there are others on learning about the various surgeries and how to deal with the emotions of it, but i figured the September bandstars are beyond that point.

    T-7 Stomach feels odd

Good Morning all Well its offfically one week away! I can't believe it myself. I have so much to do before the big day, i guess I better get busy, but its been a little hard considering I don't have much energy. I'm still losing 2 pounds per day (down 12) but I noticed I am no longer hungry. I don't rely on the raw veggies as much, if at all. My stomach however does feel as if it weighs a brick whcih is odd since there's no food in it all. Has anyone else felth like this? What should I do? Also I'm belching all the time. I had hiccups yesterday, but now i'm just belching. Perhaps my stomach is empty??

  18. well if you don't feel comfy in your underwear (I wouldn't) then perhaps in shorts and a tank. Or you can just do your measurements and keep track that way.

  19. you're doing much better than me. I cheated yet again last night with some baked chicken wings and it wasn't worth it. my stomach is still mad at me. I am 8 days away so no more cheating at all. The good thing is my stomach has shrunk or adjusted as I'm not as hungry anymore.

  20. Thanks for the tip on tricking my mind. Saying no today and not no forever is a big help! LisaA my doctor request that you stop taking any herbal supplements one week before surgery and it includes fish oil. Doesn't really explain why, but my guess is to make sure no herbal supplement interferes with the medicine they provide you during the procedure. I believe my stomach has shrunk by doing this liquid diet and i no longer feel as hungry. I will say I'm not as regular either though :-( Oh well official countdown has begun 8 days to go including today. Can't wait. Oh I did cheat on yesterday by having some baked chicken wings, don't do it, its not worth it. Made my stomach hurt!
  21. OK I'm now 9 days out from surgery and so far no nerves. I will say that I am struggling with the liquid diet. Today they are having my favorite salad in the lunch room (Buffalo Chicken Salad) and they are celebrating my directors birthday so there's food everywhere. I feel like endulging then I remind myself I've had 34 years of salads and birthday celebrations I can miss a couple . The countdown is on. Wed I stop taking the fish oil, Friday a friend comes in to town to help me with the last minute things and leaves Sunday. Tuesday my mom and grandma arrives. I know all will be OK but need advice on how to stop my mind from thinking about all the food I'm missing right now.

    T-9

Good Morning All I made it through the weekend on the liquid diet! It wasn't easy. Friday there was a card came at my house complete with chips, pop, pizza but a good friend of mine brough me a veggie tray so I had something to munch on (i admit to having dressing). Saturday I sort of cheated by staying in the house all day. Didn't even leave the bed that much just chilled and watched TV. Sunday was a different story. We had two services at church and in between I went wtih the group for lunch. I was already feeling week and my doctor warned me I may not be getting enough to eat so I had some veggies (cabbage) and baked chicken for protein. I was suprised i didn't get sick! No dessert and no sweet drink, only water. Even though i wasn't 100% on the diet I felt good over the choices I made. Anyway its Monday again and back on the grid iron. I'm drinking my water and eating my raw veggies, only 9 days to go..wow!

    Preop Visit (T-12)

Latin_Starr i was watching what I was eating but, no I wasn't on any diet prior to starting the liquids. This is all from the tremendous drop in calories. Finallyncontrol thanks for the tip on the blood pressure. My doctor made it a point for me to come see her in the weeks after the surgery to keep a check on my pressure. She anticipates taking me off the other pill as well.

    Preop Visit (T-12)

I had my preop visit with my primary care physician today. I was glad to see that I've lost 6 pounds but was a little suprised to see how low my blood pressure had dropped. Apparently this is part of the reason I've been so tired and lethargic. My doctor took me off of one of my blood pressure pills (yeah!) and actually suggested that I cut back on my exercise some becuase I just don't have the calories to sustain. She kept asking if I've been dizzy or had a headache so I guess she's concerned too. She actually mentioned that I may need a little extra so if I get weaker I'll have egg whites or a chicken breast. I had an ekg, blood work, and a nasal swab for MRSA all done in an hour. Gotta love an effecient visit. Not sure I'll have a chance to log in over the weekend but I'll be sure to update if I can.
  25. I'm sorry to hear of your set backs, but keep the faith and be grateful for the great support group you have. Best wishes.
