  1. I was sleeved August 2016 and the reflux is so bad now that I have it all the time. It can just come at you like a bus and there is no relief. I just had a gastroscopy and numerous other test for stomach PH including being continually X-ray whilst laying down after eating radioactive porridge... GERD suffers worst nightmare.. porridge and laying flat - for 90- mins!! I have had a lot of acid damage done to my oesophagus with limited relief. The drugs barely help me. So off to see the surgeon again Jan 2 and looks like I will have to convert to RNY. I do not want to do this. However the sleeve did nothing for me. Did not lose a Kilo...I had converted from the lapband to sleeve and I think I could eat more once the band was out as it just made me so sick. So here I am again... almost at Step 1. Has anyone converted from band to sleeve then onto bypass? I am interested to know what the weight loss is like? I do want my gerd fixed, but dammit, I want this weight gone too :-0 Any advise is helpful.... I just feel so sorry for my poor stomach :-(

  3. Hi! I have had two appointments so far for weight loss surgery and I'm still not 100% sure which surgery I want to have, the sleeve or the bypass. I have Aetna in Ohio for my surgery (I work for the State) and was wondering if anyone here had bypass surgery and could share with me what their out of pocket was for the surgery? Thanks! Taking a lot of things into consideration with this process.
Second question: what are you realistically able to eat? Is this going to be a funeral to food once this surgery is done? I've heard of people a year out eating a handful of almonds and a Water for lunch and being so full. Is that the extent of the eating experience I will have? I'm kind of a foodie and live in an amazing culinary city. I know all things in moderation and all that, but will I literally not be able to dine any longer once I have this surgery?

Thanks for all the feedback, extremely new at this, and appreciate anything you'd be willing to share. Thanks!

I would say bypass.....I have had all three surgeries! Just to save $$$$. Now I have spent enough to have paid for it after all! Had my bypass on 9/25 and feeling great!

  4. I had the gastric sleeve in December 2012. I lost 100 lbs but have since gained back 55 Lbs. I have extreme GERD, have been hospitalized for Ulcers. i went and met with the doctor and he recommended doing the bypass to alleviate my GERD and other issues. i am now waiting on my ins approval. Has anyone else had this procedure done? did it relieve your GERD and how much additional weight did you lose?

Yes, I had band to sleeve, but that didn’t do anything but give me Gurd, really bad, so on 9/25 had bypass, so far so good, not acid reflux....the reason I had the surgery to begin with.. by the way, never lost any weight with the sleeve! Have already lost 11 pounds as of 10/1....

  5. I really did not even know I had a hernia!! Yes mine did the same thing at times when I would bend over....the twisted feeling. I had surgery on 9/25, feeling a lot better today, had a spell yesterday, I guess what they call dumping, not really sure, boy it was not fun! Have I don't do that again! I started at around 182, at 171 this morning!! Please keep in touch...

  6. I have reflux really bad too after removing band to sleeve. I had started gaining weight because I had not restriction with band, it had slipped, so had it removed, have sleeve done and now I have gained even more weight plus the avid reflux is unbearable!! Having bypass hopefully Sept. 25th....I got down to 125 with the band & now weight around 170 again!!!

Had my surgery, feeling a little sore, already down 8 pounds....& no more reflux!

I had my Lapband revision to gastric bypass, with a hiatal hernia repair, all in one surgery on July 5 this year. I am 2 months out and feel SO much better. Life was miserable with the Lapband. I also had GERD and have not had one day of it with my surgery. I originally wanted to convert to the sleeve but my surgeon said it would make the GERD worse.

    Don't be afraid.

I had sleeve when I had band removed, all it did was give me acid reflux real bad and no Wright loss...

  8. Had my surgery this past Monday...everything went well, Dr said I had a big hernia, one of the largest she had seen, she did my bypass so hopefully that will fix my Gurd, acid reflux. Sore but other than that fell good, I know each day will get better, my Dr also said that my stomach was up in my chest wall..... no wonder I didn’t lose any weight after the sleeve...But did lose 80 pounds with the band.

  9. I agree with SGIRL35. I'm sure they're being cautious to allow healing inside as well. My Dr. is conservative as well. I had one week clear liquids, but 2 weeks full liquids. I will be going to pureed at week 3. So being on the liquids is getting old, I understand that - but what has encouraged me is remembering I DO NOT WANT TO RISK COMPLICATIONS! I read a horror story about someone that had leaks and multiple complications. But I get what you're saying, you just have the desire. I'm sticking to the list of approved stages & liquids/foods on those stages. As far as your Protein, what has worked for me is GENEPRO (one Tablespoon in Crystal light is how I take it) unflavored, disolves great. 30 gm per serving. So I do that twice a day, and with the yogurt it gives you the 70gm goal. My Dr. recommended 60 - 70gm goal. I found the GenePro at GNC.

  10. Seven years ago I was morbidly obese. I had a very active little boy and wanted nothing more than to be active with him, and have more children.
In Jan, 2010 I decided to have gastric bypass. I followed every single rule given to be by both my surgeon and nutritionist. Within 6 months I had lost 100 lbs but was suffering with chronic stomach pain, naseua, and vomiting. My surgeon took one look at me and said,"whenever my patients come in with your symptoms looking as good as you do, they're pregnant." I assured her that I was not pregnant, for it wouldn't have been safe for me to become pregnant so soon after my bypass. She took a pregnancy test and I never heard another word from her. As a matter of fact, since the Bypass I've never been able to become pregnant again, despite all of the Reproductive Endricronolohist assuring my husband and myself we were perfectly healthy and he had no idea why we weren't able to conceive. I believe Gastric Bypass robbed me of my fertility and the opportunity to grow my family.
Fast forward six months later and I'm being rushed into emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer and intucception. This started a vicious cycle of hospitalizations and illnesses that went on for 7 years. I suffered many, many episodes of intucception, small bowel obstructions, an appendectomy, narrowing of my esophagus that had to be surgically stretched so food could pass, and more small bowel resections than anyone should ever have.
My original surgery was done in Boston, at St Elizabeth's Hospital, by Dr Nicole Pequix.

My care is now managed my Dr Todd Stafford out of Providence and Miriam Hospitals. Last July I found myself at our local ER with what I knew could be nothing other than intucception. The hospital ran a CT and sent me on my way. My husband and I decided we would drive into Boston first thing the next morning to finally get some answers.
We never made it to Boston. Our local hospital called and frantically claimed they had missed a clear case of intucception and that I would need to come right back to be transported to Providence Hospital. As luck would have it, Dr Stafford was the surgeon on call and he happened to be a bariatric specialist. He performed another small bowel resection.
