  1. I haven't been on this website in a few weeks and I'm so confused. Where did our social group June Bugs go? If anyone can help me find our group let me know. Otherwise I guess we can use this space.

Anyway just wanted to see what everyone was up to and how we're all doing.

  2. I have one. I don't use it very often. The novelty wears off. Plus.. it groans every time I step on it. I know I'm fat... I don't need to be reminded. lol... I enjoy JUST DANCE or Dance Dance Revolution (DDR). That's what I'd suggest that you get for the Wii if you want to get moving and have fun, too. I also like Sports Resort.

I agree with that it does groan when you do a fitness test. It shows your little mii and it gets bigger or smaller based on your BMI. Obviously mines always humongous. I think its kind of funny that its telling me I'm fat, but I'm hoping to improve on that. I want to see what it does when I lose a bunch of weight.

  3. For those of you who had hiatal hernia's repaired during surgery, did you know you had this beforehand? or did they tell you after surgery?

I've read that a bunch of you have had this and I was wondering if it something that can go undiagnosed until they are in there. I've researched it and I really think I have it, but my surgeon has said nothing to me about it. I get horrible heartburn almost every night even when I don't eat anything that usually triggers heartburn. I also get pain right around the breast bone that hurts if I push on when I have this heartburn.

  4. Sorry to say but it's different for everyone. There are different factors that determine how long its going to take: insurance, health issues, surgeon, etc.

I personally when to a seminar in February and my surgery is set for June 14th, but I could have had it in May if I wanted. I wanted to wait until I was out of school so I chose June 14.

My insurance required a supervised diet for 3 months and to see a psychologist. I had to go to my PCP once during February, March, and April. She faxed some documentation that I was trying to lose weight and I saw a psychologist once.

I've read in other posts that some people have had to wait 6 months and have more testing done.

My surgeons assistant was very knowledgeable about what my insurance required and had it all ready for me. I just followed what she requested.

I've also read that some people have met with their surgeons multiple times and I have only met with him for my consultation and my pre-op appointment.

Sorry this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but there is no definitive time line.

    Good luck to you, though.

  5. I told my mom and three friends at work but that was even hard for me. I was really afraid of their preconceived ideas about losing weight and what the best ways to do it were. My mom has been very supportive, but I'm not telling anyone else in my family. My sister was banded a year ago and she told everyone. She then did not follow the plan, never exercised, and has gone back to normal eating habits. Everyone was very judgmental of her decision and I don't want the same thing to happen to me. Plus, as I was going back and forth on whether I wanted to do this, I decided that I'm doing this for me, not for anyone else. I really don't want or need anyone's opinions on my decision. Although, the support would be nice, I think sometimes people don't understand that what they think is "support" is not really encouraging.

  6. My boss told everyone at work, so though I planned to tell them over time, now it is too late. I do wish some of them did not know, because I have some who try to give advice or say what they do--I do not need their help, and it's about me, so I do not care what you do. Some are naturally curious, and I respect that, and have genuine questions. I am just upfront and tell them how I feel. I said all of that to say, whomever you tell, be prepared for how you will deal with their response

Does your boss realize that its against the law to divulge medical information? That's a big no no.

  7. I'm getting banded on June 14th with Dr. Shayani. I am meeting with the dietitian, him, and getting some final tests done this Monday. I'm getting really excited. I'll let you know how everything goes.

I'm not sure what insurance you have, but I went to a seminar in February and I'm getting banded 4 months later.

  8. I thought about blogging, but not sure I could keep up with it. I enjoyed your blog. I will definitely keep reading yours. It's nice to know someone else is going through what I'm going through. You're about a week ahead of me so now I can see what I have to look forward too.

    Keep blogging! I'm reading!

  9. I was suppose to meet with the dietitian today where I thought they would tell me about the pre-op diet, but he got sick and canceled. I'm now meeting with him on June 7 only a week before my surgery. Is only 1 week on the diet going to be fine? I've read a lot of people have been on it for two weeks before their surgery. I just want to make sure I'm doing evertyhing I can do to make the surgery go without complications.

  10. I am getting banded on June 29th. On a side note.. How do I insert tickerfactory?

Click on User CP (its towards the top of the page), then click on edit signature. You have to copy the link from tickerfactory into your signature.

  11. I know my company wants to take it away as a benefit. Only a couple of people have had some sort of bariatric surgery, but they want to take it away. I'm just glad that I'm getting mine done before they make any of these changes.

They say that there are too many complications that can arise and cost the company too much money. I think that's funny since only a couple of people have done it. The costs can't be that much. I would think the benefits of healthier employees would out weigh the initial costs of the surgery.

  12. I was just reading posts wondering where I'll be a year from now. We're all getting the band around the same time and I wanted to see what your thoughts are.

I'm hoping to have lost at least 50 pounds, although if I average the recommended 2 lbs per week I should hopefully be beyond that. I'm also hoping to be more active since I'll be able to get around easier with less weight.

That's where I hope to be, what about you?

  13. I'm being banded June 14 and I can't believe how fast the date has come up. I see the dietitian on Tuesday and I have a feeling I'm going to have to start my pre-op diet. No one has mentioned it to me so far, but I'm read in a lot of posts about the pre-op diet. I still have another week of school. I hope my students can handle me on the pre-op diet.

  14. I had to go through 3 months with BCBSIL also. I met with my surgeon in February and then had to meet with my PCP for the next 3 months to show that I've been actively trying to lose weight. My surgeon's office knew all of the requirements that my insurance required and helped me through the process. I saw the psychologist a month ago and had all my preliminary labs done. I meet with the dietitian on Tuesday and then have my last meeting with the surgeon & anesthesiologist the following week. The whole process hasn't been that bad, but I'm getting a little nervous for the surgery.
