    Ice Cream

Please be kind to your self even if others aren't. It's true icecream is not the best choice, check out the calorie , and carb counts in frozen yogert. One may be very surprised to find out how unhealthy all fast food choices are. Just take time to prepare. This you will need to do as part of your behavior modification. This is a life time change. we all make mistakes as we learn. I think mistakes are inherent in learning. oh, if you aren't an early morning breakfast eater don't stress over it. I thank you have enough behaviors to work on with out adding one thats not causing you problems. It's the ice cream in the title.

    First Blog

Hi AB122207, Don't worry about the slow down. You really don't want to lose more than a couple of pounds a week. Flab you know. Keep a journal and advantage of the experences of others. I wish someone had told me about this site when I was frist banded. Staying hyddrated will help some with the urge to eat. Try hot sugar free lemon aid or broth. And, No that bill coming each month is not a great motivator, Ask me how I know? :-) Changeing behaviors is hard, really hard but we can do it. hang in there.
  5. Tracima, Exercise has not been my favorite thing, however, I love music and dancing. Just learning a few line dances has been very helpful for me. I get boared with the "high energy vidio stuff". Start small and build. Don't wait for the surgery date start now, just move if only a few min. an hour more than usual. Success is your only option. Go for it.

    Thinking out loud

After 19 months I've only just had my first fill a few weeks ago. I am one of the small precentage of banders who had complications. (Not sure what that was about) Still After all these months I believe this was a good choice for me. I was one who had been underweight for the first half of my life. I only breifly was at a normal weight. The rest found me at 279 lbs at my heaviest. a few persons I know had by-pass surgery. I'd even cared for by-pass patients during my early nurseing years. I knew that was not for me. This banding thing, after musch time on the net and my PCP's cry of too many "pre" stuff to name. Another diet, more shots and pills were not going to do it. An accident had slowed me down physically and mentally. I gained back the 45 lbs I'd lost on my last plan and swing dance class plus a few more. After surgery I lost 100 lbs because I was sick then gained back 20lbs once I could eat again. Now. I get to use my tool, learn new coping skills and cooking methods. I 'm learning to understand my relationship with food and make changes to be healthy for the rest of my life. This is wonderful. I love my surgeon. He confrenced with all my doctors during my illness and I count him as my friend. I'm grateful for the person who created this web site and I'm most thankful for a chance to live a truely abundant life. :frown:
  7. I've experienced both doctors. My surgery was done by Dr. Baptista, Oct. 08. You will not go wrong with either of these men. However, I've been a nurse for 35 years and I've notice that most patients do well when they like their doctor. (Under stress I eat more) I was in that small precentage of patients who developed complications. I disliked being yelled at as if I'd done something wrong. ( there was a can of ensure on my tray unopened from the hospital's kitchen) The diet slip did say full liquid. My next encounter I was yelled at for having gone to a digestive disease doctor for a problem swollowing instead of to his office. Guess where the referral came from? Bedside manner aside you will be in good hands. I have to add that Dr. Baptista spoke with each of my doctors from PCP to neurologist on several occassions. He read there notes and participated in my care until I was well enough to continue with my weight loss journey. Great care and real concern for me as a person. You know who gets my vote.
  8. Tracy, as a nurse you know that as a rule surgons don't have the best bedside manners. After 35 years of watching and caring for By-pass patients , I knew haveing my internal organs rearranged was not for me. I commend you for sticking with your decision. It sounds to me like you have the determination to follow the programe and succeed. Blessings:smile2:
