  1. I have the same problem, I can't seem to stay off of the scale. It is so rewarding to see those pounds fall away..but then you hit a few days where the darn thing won't budge and like you said you start to wonder what you are doing wrong. Those old feelings of doubt and fear of failure creep in so easily. I know I need to stop weighing everyday, but haven't succeeded in accomplishing that yet - it is all still so new and exciting.

  2. I am two weeks postop and have lost 19lbs and I can't believe how much better I sleep!!! Before I used to get up 2 or 3 times a night and go to the bathroom and then I tossed and turned all night. Now, when I go to bed I sleep so good and don't get up until morning - and when I wake up I feel great!! I was never tested for sleep apnea, but I knew that I had it as sometimes I would wake up gasping for air. I am pretty sure that must be gone now. Also, I used to drink soda like crazy and I think that not having all of that caffeine in my system is why I am not getting up several times a night to pee. You wouldn't think that just losing a few pounds and making better nutritrional choices would make that much difference, but it has for me. I love my sleeve!!!! :)

  3. Drains used to be used all the time, but not everyone uses them now. It will depend on your surgeon. Drains are put in place to help remove blood or other fluids from your surgical sites. Sometimes after a procedure is done, the organs are rinsed off with saline and that is a way for the extra Fluid to drain out from your body. If you did not have a drain, your body would just reabsorb the fluid. They don't actually result in faster healing or prevent infection, but they can remove fluids that might otherwise accumulate and become a source for infection.

Try not to focus too much on whether or not you will have a drain. Your surgeon will choose whatever method he has had good success with. If you do have one, it will probably only be for a few days (I had mine for 2 days) and they are not really uncomfortable, sometimes they pull a little if they are not drained often and then they pull a little when they get full and heavy.

You can empty the drain more often if you want to. If you think that you are having more drainage than you were, it wouldn't be a bad idea to measure it and keep track of how much drainage per day you are having so that if you tell the Dr. you are having more, then he understands how much that means. Other things you would want to report are changes in color of the drainage (should be a pinkish-red), and increase in pain or if you are experiencing fever. Whatever the drain takes care of for you is just that much less that your body has to reabsorb when the drains are taken out. Hope that helps.

  5. You feel that way because it hurts to fail, especially when it comes to weightloss. You tell yourself ahead of time that you will fail so that when you do you can tell yourself that you knew it would happen. But this time is different! You will can succeed with this! Your new tiny tummy is going to help you do that. The willpower issue is not an issue at this time because you physically CANT eat too much. And as time goes by and you adjust to your new way of eating, the urges for all of those old bad eating habits that we all have will get less and less until one day you will realize that you are in charge of your body, it is not in charge of you! You can to this, I know it.

  6. I hadn't seen my boyfriend in almost a week because he has been busy with farming. When he walked in today he said "Oh man! you look great!" And then when he hugged me he said I felt smaller  I have only lost 17lbs so far, and I know that is just a drop in the bucket of what I have to lose, but it felt sooooooo good to hear that!:)

  7. Yaaay for you Sunshine!! I haven't seen my boyfriend in almost a week because he has been busy farming and when he came over today he said "Oh man, you look REALLY good!" and when he hugged me he said I felt smaller. I have lost 17 lbs, since my surgery and 26 since starting my preop. In the long run it's not much but it felt so good to hear that. I am glad that you are feeling well and happy, just think where you will be by next summer, or for that matter even Christmas of this year!!

I am not anticipating any post op problems, however if anything comes up I will see my regular Dr. and the surgeon that works with him. I do plan to see my doc at least once a year for labwork, I didn't tell him before I went, but we have worked together for about 12 years and I am confident that he will be happy for me and try to take good care of me.

I know what you mean, when I was on the way home I would have bought a piece of pizza and just LICKED it!!!! Head hunger is definately a very real thing.

Almanza's clinic was fine - It's not like the US, you won't get all the shiny, newest stuff but it was clean and it worked. They were fanatical about cleaning, almost to the point that the smells were getting to me. The staff was very attentive, there was a little bit of a language barrier but not too bad.

We totally need to chat some time and compare our experiences.

  10. Thanks everyone - I will just relax and enjoy a few more days resting and healing before I go back to work on Saturday. I think my brain has a tendency to believe I am going to fail like I have on every other diet. Time to retrain the brain.

  11. Trouble -

I was sleeved 5 days ago and about 30 min before my surgery I got really scared and didn't think I could go through with it - but I did. And you know what? I am so glad I did. I think I posted on another thread that it was the best gift I could ever give myself and I truly believe that. I did feel pretty tough for about the first 6 hrs after surgery but by the next morning (my surgery was at 6pm) I was up and showering had little if any discomfort and it has only gotten better from there! You have half of the post op battle won - you already know what the adjustments to eating smaller portions are like from your lapband. I really think that your husband knows you are afraid and that makes him afraid too. Talk to your surgeon and tell him your fears, and if you aren't ready just yet then wait until you are. You need to do what is right for you. I hope you can find peace with whatever you decide sweetie.

    TX HS FB Coach -

I was sleeved on Friday the 16th and can start the mushy/soft stage this Friday. There are alot of good threads about what to eat in those stages here, you might try looking around for them. A few things I have seen that others are eating in this stage are scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, cottage cheese, applesauce, soft cooked veggies, tuna-chicken-egg salad, cheeses, yogurt and I have seen where several like to take a deli slice of turkey with cream cheese rolled up - I can't wait to try that one. I hope this helps some.

  12. David -

I can't offer you any information about Dr. Rodriguez but I will tell you that you will be so glad that you did this. I am 42 and weighed 291 on the day of my surgery. My life had gotten so uncomfortable and depressing - I felt bad ALL the time! And even though I am only 5 days out from surgery and have lost only 11 pounds I am so happy! I know that the rest of my life is going to be so very different and it will be GOOD!

    Good luck to you!
