    Holiday Blues?

Sorry to hear about your situation. I wish there was something I could say to help you. I have suffered from depression since my father died 16 years ago. Ive been off and on depression medicine. Losing some of this weight has helped my depression. There are so many struggles in all our lives. I have a son who has been addicted to prescription pain medication for six years and has been in and out of jail (and is now in over the holidays), rehabs, half way houses, etc.... This has been a constant struggle. The only thing that has helped me this year, is a friend lost her son to addiction about three weeks ago and I told myself that all the places my son has to go or be in is better than him dying. Only God has helped me through this as only he can do. I pray for peace for you.
  3. Wow what a whirlwind. What I thought was going to be a "piece of cake"(No pun intended), turned out to be a nightmare. I was banded on November 9. For four days I could not swollow or keep down a thing. After doing a Barium swollow, the doctor could see that nothing was going down. (the band was too small) Anyway, 5 days later, November 14. The first band was taken out and a bigger band was put in. Then the next week I got an infection in my incision. Finally today, December 9, im going to my first doctors appt and finally on the road to recovery and 31 lbs down. Getting compliments from everyone has been a big boost to my confidence. The first week, I told myself I wish I had not have done this because the experience was terrible, but now that Im feeling better and have lost a pant and shirt size, im feeling better about the whole thing. There is absolutely no fluid in my band and I still feel a lot of restriction. Where I could eat 4-5 pieces of pizza, (very thin crust and soft) I can barely get one down. What a change. My only fear is im kind of afraid to get a fill for fear of getting too much restriction. Anyone out there experience any problems like this?
  4. Got my surgery date Nov 9. Dr. Visit Nov 2 (my b-day) Started the liquid 2 week diet today. That will be hard. Im 45. Live near Pittsburgh, PA. Need all the encouragement I can get. Very nervous that it will not work.
  5. Hello to the November Bandsters. I got my call yesterday from my doctor. Pre-op tests and Anesthe. consultation Friday, Oct 29. Dr. Visit Nov 2(my birthday) and Surgery Nov 9. Started the two weeks liquid diet today. Doing ok, but worried about a week from now. Need all the support and encouragement I can get. I only lost a large amount of weight one time in my life (57 lbs) 17 years ago. Since then I've gone through so much, father passing away, mother passing away, and a child addicted to drugs. I have let food be my comfort and have gained 100 lbs in the last 17 years. Im ready for a change. Im scared too. Please say a prayer for me. Need all I can get.
  6. My paperwork from my nutrition said 1 month after surgery you should only be eating 2-3 tables spoons, 1-4 cup 3 months out. Plus a snack between meals. Im looking at the paperwork she gave us and this is what it states. Is that what everyone else is told?

    Just approved--Wooo Hoooo!

Just wanted to respond to your post. We are pretty close in the process. I have my Doctor's appt on Nov 2 (my birthday) and my surgery is scheduled Nov 9. They called me yesterday and set up everything. Then she said you have to start your 14 day diet tomorrow. Wow! Even though I know it was going to happen, Just didn't expect them to say start tomorrow. So today was my first day of the liquid diet. Im doing ok, but so worried about a week from now. I know I have to stay focused and try and realize it will be worth it. I hope. I have the same feelings as you. Im scared, afraid it will not work. Over the last 14 years, (at age 45) It just seems there has been no metabolism left in me. Well good luck to you.

    Streching the Stomach out

I was at the Pulminologists office this week. (My last doctors appt before surgery.) He says "You realize after you get the band on, it only takes one time of thinking 'oh I can blow it today' and you will strech your stomach out." and then you are done. Any comments on this? Im having the hardest time thinking that I could make one mistake of overeating and my stomach will be streched out. After making bad decisions all my life, the thought of changing instantaneiously is scary to me. surgery to be in November.:smile:

    Questions!!

I am expecting to have my band in November or December. Some of the posts scare me. It is such a drastic decision and I see that Some people say they are not losing consistently but gaining. Are they not sticking to plan? Another question - I love Pizza, can it be eaten in moderation? (1 piece?) It seems this is a no carb diet???
  10. Nicole i was just wondering how you are doing now??? (May , 2010) I am just starting the process of this lap band and have my first nutrition appt. today. Was it worth it. Are you still losing that. I would settle for what you have lost.
  11. My name is Amy and my plan is to have the Lap Band surgery. I am 44 years old. I have four children, three of whom are grown and out of the house and one still at home and have been married for 15 years. My process started on April 3 with my first visit. Then I had a follow up visit with the Doctor (Greenville, PA, Dr. Myers). Today is my first nutrition visit. According to my insurance i have to have seven nutrition visitis. Wish it wasn't such a long drawn process, but Im ready for the journey!:w00t:
