    Would Appreciate Advice

my instructions said no veggies at first, and that if i had to have brocolli or cauliflower to make sure it was cooked to death,, VERY SOFT, so i cook it to death, at first you really have to baby your new tummy, just be very careful the first 6 weeks should be softer type foods or chewed really well. I'm sure you'll do fine, just go slowly,

Bering an Insurance Stalker finally paid off!

congratulations, that's great, i went thru the same thing, in feb BC denied my d/t investigagtional. CA has a state office you can appeal to and i won my Independent Medical Review. Surgery was scheduled for two weeks from day of approval, 5/28/10 Two months out, almost, and i love my sleeve, you'll love yours, good luck, hope they schedule right away
  4. in a heartbeat, no question, people say they get mad when people say this is the easy way out, but i don't get mad, for me this is the easy way out, there was no way out for me until this, I could never have lost this weight or improved my life so well without this help. i'm off my blood pressure pills and i feel great. i love my sleeve, i'm almost 2 months post op and i've had a very easy time of it, i'd do it again and again if i had to, go for it,

    Time Off Work

i took two weeks, probably could have gone back after one but i was very tired and i'm glad i took the two weeks. Some of the healing is physical but some of it is emotional and you have to wrap your head around the new life you have to live and the changes you have to make.

    Hair Loss Poll:)

only 6 weeks out so no hair loss yet, i too have really thick hair and its so hot, my consolation if it does happen is maybe i'll be cooler this summer?? and i'd rather have thin hair than stay fat,

I want the sleeve not the rny!!

my insurance denied me because they say the sleeve is investigational, my surgeon wanted to do the rny but i was totally opposed to doing that, he refused to help me appeal so i did it myself, i got a letter from someone else who appealed and won and i won. i got my sleeve about 6 weeks ago, you are talking about the rest of your life, don't let a couple of weeks compromise you. If you really think you can live with the bypass then i wish you the best, but if you're like me i say fight it, good luck

    40 bougie anyone?

i have no idea what size my tummy is as my doctor doesn't use a bougie. He uses an intragastric balloon. He has published books and invented tools used in the bypass and he couldn't give me a number to compare, which i was not very happy about. That being said, i eat more than most people say they can eat, but i'm a lightweight (not by my personal standards) and so i do eat less than i used to and i am losing weight. Lots of doctors use a 40 that's all Kaiser will use and they are doing lots of sleeves these days. And you can eat a lot more of the soft foods than you can dense protein so its too early to tell really how much you can eat. So we play the hand we are dealt and we will be successful. So good luck to all of us, Jeani

    Dr. Aceves

I feel very lucky that insurance covered my sleeve 100% after an appeal with and Independent Medical Review. But i have been on these boards since January and lots of people on here and on OH have gone to this doctor and they all LOVE HIM, I've seen lots of posts by his patients and NEVER heard anything bad, Good Luck to you in whatever you decided. Jeani

    Hunger?

I'm sorry to have to say that i feel hungry every 2-3 hours, its like i'm empty and it hurts a little, i was very disappointed i was excited about not feeling hunger. Some people say its acid but the Prilosec doesn't get rid of it. The good thing is that i eat and it goes away. I have heard that it can still go away around 3 months post op so i am living in hope that it will still happen. But its not enough to make me regret this decision, best thing i ever did
  13. I know how you feel. My doctor doesn't use a bougie he uses an intragastric baloon? i think he invented it, but he wouldn't give me a comparison as to what it equals in a bougie, i have always fealt my sleeve is bigger than most, but i will deal with it, no other choice really, so i'm losing, which is great. But i eat more than most people say they can eat. Whatever its what we got and we can work it. best of luck to you jeani p. s. i was told no rice, especially in the beginning, its a simple carb and they are no nos

Why don't you just call Jillian?

i agree i have told everyone i know, except my sister who FREAKED OUT when i told her, she'll see my at Christmas and wonder lol,, i even tell strangers, but that's just me, i am proud of myself for taking this positive step and like jachut i don't really care what others think and i feel i have helped some people who were afraid of taking this step. But i'm a firm believer in " to each his own" so whatever floats your boat,, float on best of luck to all of us, jeani

VSG in Phase III Clinical Trials? (long)

well on day 30 of my appeal they said , "oh you can't appeal you haven't been denied this has to go to the utilization dept. who told me on 6 different calls that their dept didn't handle hmo. So the guy tells me that dept doesn't know that they do this?wth?? so it goes to them and they deny me and i requested an Independent Medical Review, which is 3 independent doctors review and decide your fate. I won with a vote of 2-1 in my favor and got my sleeve on 5/28. There is a copy of my appeal letter in my profile page. i couldn't be happier. Best of luck to you, let me know if i can help in any way Jeani

    Physical Hunger

i never really got hungry before surgery because i ate a lot. since the surgery i get hungry,, i feel empty every 3 hours or so,, i'm pretty disapointed i was looking forward to not being hungry,, still hoping it will happen. Once i eat something i'm ok for another 3 hrs. i think i'm eating a lot? more calories than most of you seem to eat,, but my stomach is definately smaller so as long as i lose the weight eventually i will be very happy,,,here's to us all being happy,,,

Do I Tell My Current Surgeon?

that was the thinking,, when they were doing the ds, now they have found that as a stand alone procedure for lighterweights that it very successful,, the insurance companies just need to catch up,,, thankfully they are starting to change their way of thinking,, the rest need to catch up,,, thank God i won my appeal and i got the sleeve 100% covered by my insurance, thanks to an independent medical review,,take care
  23. hi donna,,, i had such an easy time that i was amazed,,, the first two days are the hardest,, but they give you pain and nausea meds,, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is to get up and walk, right away,, it really does help,,, and when you get something to drink sip so walk and sip is the best advise anyone can ever give you,,, and i had a very easy time of it,,, its all a vague memory now,,,if you consider its major surgery i was happily surprised at how well it all went,,, i never had any problems getting in my fluids,, i think attitude and expectations carry a large role in the whole process,,, best of luck to you jeani

Do I Tell My Current Surgeon?

hi,, every state is different but i'm fairly sure they all have a system set up if you don't aggree with your carrier's decision you can request that they be overturned,,if BCBS doesn't provide this information to you contact your state's insurance commissioner's office,, when they use investigational you can fight it since you need the NSAIDs that is why i believe i won,, best of luck to you,, its nce to get it done here at home and have after care covered,, take care jeani

i won my appeal, sleeve done 5/28/10

i won my appeal ,, the independent medical review was a success,,,the vote was 2-1 in my favor and i got my sleeve 5/28/10 exactly 4 weeks ago today,,, i had a very easy time of it,,,i was amazed at how easy a time it was,,, i am doing great,,, my only concern is i am afraid that my sleeve is a little bigger than most as i can eat more than most people say they can eat,,,, i am hoping that while this may make my loss slow, i hope to still lose the weigth i need to lose,,,, jeani:thumbup1::scared0::crying:
