    Any Advice Please

    Water while eating question!

It's an individual thing. In some countries, drinking with meals is part of the program. In the US it's generally not. If I'm at a social occasion, I will drink as I nosh. At a dinner party, sometimes the host will have certain wines to drink with each course, I enjoy that experience, too. At home, I don't usually drink with meals, but recently my GI doctor had told me to drink with my meals because of a motility disorder. It doesn't seem to affect how much I eat or how long I'm satiated.

    An "Interesting" Year (long, sorry)

Way to go! Hope the added fill does the trick!
  4. Celebrating the "fourth triplet's" birthday this weekend. Cannot believe my grand babies are 15!

  5. I follow the 30/30/30 plan for 1200 calories: 30% calories from Protein, 360 calories = 90 gr protein 30% calories from good carbs*360 calories = 90 gr carb 30% calories from good fats**360 calories= 40 gr fats 10% calories for whatever I want...120 calories * good carbs, veggies, low glycemic fruits (berries & melons) whole grains ** good fats, avocado, olive oils and naturally occurring fats in foods and grains. You can see that you can adjust your calories downward and still meet your nutritional needs. For a 60 gr protein plan the total calories per day would be 800.

    Am I eating too much?

The eggs on average are 2 oz each, the sausage patties are the unknown, but lets assume 1.5 oz each. That would be 6.25 oz dense protein. Not too much in general, but I'm surprised you're able to eat that the day after a fill...
  7. What Missy said. Sounds like you're too tight. Even a half cc coming out can make a huge difference. Call your doctor.

gram crackers soaked in soy milk

This is not a good choice. In my mushy stage I ate the following foods: Retried Black Beans with cheese melted, southwestern black bean soup, puréed with finely ground 99% lean turkey, poached eggs, egg salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, instant sf pudding with my protein shake powder mixed in. There is no benefit to eating graham crackers...turns to sugar and stored as fat as soon as you chew it. Not sure why puréed is coming out weird??
  9. Just want to add, that this specific warning didn't exist when I got my band. I have IBS and today it's a contraindication. Sleeve is the surgery I would choose today.
  10. Contraindications: The LAP-BAND® System is not recommended for non-adult patients, patients with conditions that may make them poor surgical candidates or increase the risk of poor results (e.g., inflammatory or cardiopulmonary diseases, GI conditions, symptoms or family history of autoimmune disease, cirrhosis), who are unwilling or unable to comply with the required dietary restrictions, who have alcohol or drug addictions, or who currently are or may be pregnant. This is from lapbands site http://www.lapband.com/en/learn_about_lapband/safety_information/ I don't know if FM is inflammatory or auto immune, but I know that many have developed FM post-banding. Ask a lot of questions.
  11. I'm truly confused by your numbers, (Most do this when blood sugar is 130 or so). Most people don't pass out at 130 BG. It's a bit high and an am reading of 126 or higher indicates diabetes. Hypoglycemia occurs at BG <70. I'm T2 and my levels have been managed since I was put on my supervised diet. My A1c went from 7.8 to 4.9. The only time I was hypoglycemic was after surgery, about 2 weeks, had am BG of 65. Nutritionist suggested a pre bed snack 100 cal 1/3 Protein 2/3 quality carbs. This helped and haven't had a problem since.
  12. As far as I know, an endoscopy must be done by a gastroenterologist.

    This looks delicious!

I came across this on Pinterest, it's a variation from something our family has done for ages, oven roasted veggies. Sauté onions in olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Spread over bottom of baking dish. Arrange zucchini, tomato, onion in dish as shown in illustration. Drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper. Bake for 20-30 min on 350. Sprinkle top with a good Parmesan such as grana padano or reggianno, return to oven for 10-15 min more, enjoy!

    No protein! What to do?

The most important thing right now is to stay hydrated. Just make sure that you are getting enough fluids. SF Popcicles, water, etc will hold you over. I relied on cream of wheat, cream of chicken soup (blended) tomato soup for the first week, then my appetite kicked in a bit. Call your doctor if you feel like you're not progressing as you should.

    Just not loosing anything

Betsy, how are things going now? Better, I hope. Hang in there...we're all individuals and respond in our own way to the stress of surgery. Keep us posted, please

    I'm wondering too???

    This looks delicious!

Not sure what happened! It's not on my Pinterest any more either :-/ Basically it's chopped onion, zucchini, tomatoes, olive oil, sliced onion. I'll try to find the original...
  19. The second point is one that comes up often here on the forum. People who are in a plateau don't see a plateau as a success when if not for the band, they would be gaining weight and that's not a success. Great point! We can be so focused on "ideal weight" (somewhere most of us haven't been in decades) that we fail to give ourselves credit for maintenance. I don't look at maintaining a 90 lb weight loss as a plateau, but as a maintenance phase. My body seems to need these phases along the way. I know I'll lose the last 30-40 lb in the next losing phase or two.
  20. It's normal, but that doesn't make it more comfortable. They literally "blow you up like a balloon" with CO2 and they try to get as much out as possible, but some remains. Walking helps, as does a heating pad applied to the area that hurts. As for gurgling and loose bm, you're on liquids, I assume, so liquids in = liquids out. You'll be fine! Welcome to the loser's bench!

    Lifting after surgery

You're going to get a wide range of answers for this question as you can see. I was told < 20 lb for 6 weeks, but my back doctor amended that to 10 lb

    Who Am I?

Who I am now isn't so important as how I came to be this person, wife, mother, grandmother, sister. The history is what formed me, challenged me to overcome, compelled me to do better than those who came before me. I was born near the mid-point of the last century, in a large western US city. My parents married because they had conceived me when my mom was 16. My birth father was 19. As it turned out, he was a violent paranoid schizophrenic and a pedophile. My mom was later Dx with Borderline Personality disorder. I won't go into detail, suffice it to say that my earliest memories are horrific. My two younger brothers and I suffered the abuse and neglect until I was 9 1/2 years old, when a neighbor girl was assaulted by my birth father, he was arrested and sent to a state psychiatric hospital for treatment. I was taken in to protective custody for four days, while my mother was investigated and cleared of complicity in my abuse. He was not allowed within 300 miles of me, upon his release, 4 years later. When I was 14, he committed suicide. My mom had remarried in 1960 to a wonderful man I refer to as Dad. He earned my trust, respect and love. They had two more little boys in the two years following their marriage. My Dad died of sleep apnea in 1978, we were all devastated and heartbroken...it was the undoing of my mom and my dearest brother. My mom turned to scotch for comfort, inviting my 17 year old brother to be her drinking partner. My mom died 8 miserable years later of pancreatic cancer. Those 8 years were awful, watching my mom decline, my brothers suffer. She raged constantly, told me often that I had no idea of her pain, her suffering. She made life a living hell for her family and circle of friends. She was diagnosed and died in 12 short weeks later. My brother died 14 years later, the victim of a predatory female who took advantage of his alcoholism, a recent injury, subbed his Rx pain Meds with extra strength Tylenol. Took him 3 weeks to die of liver failure, on our dad's birthday. My heart was broken. This brother was the first male I had in my life who loved me unconditionally. He was born when I was 11 and he was like a son to me. He was my husband's best buddy, my kids favorite uncle, everybody loved him. Yes, he was an alcoholic, very high functioning, but losing him was the saddest event of my life to date. My brother has been gone for 12 years...I think of him every day. I remember my little grandkids running up to the car when I'd arrive at their house, all four of them would climb in the car hugging me, asking me "...is you sad? Did your Brubbie die? Sorry *****, usses loves you! ". They did this for months, until I finally told them I felt better because they healed my broken heart. I have 8 grandkids 6 teens, 2 in their twenties. The youngest 4 are all the same age, 3 identical girls and a boy. I am blessed. Of my four siblings, two have passed. The oldest, died at age 51 as a transient. He inherited the mental illness genes and I never saw him after my mother's death. The next oldest lives in NM, his mind ravaged by years of alcohol and drug abuse. We have minimal contact thru FB. The youngest has never been able to form healthy relationships with anyone...I see him once per year when he comes to visit. He misses his big brother too. He tells me that his true home is wherever I am. I wish my mom had let me take him when he was 15 and she went on her 8 year binge. So...this is my emotional history, in a nutshell. The other stuff doesn't matter, except to say that my family is healthy, successful and happy. We celebrate often, mourn together when the time comes and love and support each other faithfully. My kids have all been married to their HS sweethearts for over 20 years each. We have done better than the generation before us...the bar was low on my side, but my husband and his family were great role models. I'm thankful every day for their love, support and example. I miss them painfully.
  23. Just to clarify, you can follow the plan exactly and have complications.

    Surgery Pains

Having a large hiatal hernia repair is difficult surgery. I had mine done when my band was implanted and it was very hard to breathe for days. I was diligent in using the spirometer, which helped. I even coughed up bloody mucous for a couple of days. I'm sure your mom will feel much better having gotten this taken care of.
  25. Welcome Christa! Please continue to research all your options. Look at the complications forums on all the various surgeries. At your age I would choose VSG over Lapband, just comparing restrictive surgeries only. If your surgeon only does bands, find a surgeon who does VSG, DS to get a better perspective. I'm nearly 3 years out and like many others started experiencing complications at the 18 month point, although I was completely compliant. You're young and healthy now, choose carefully.
