I'm half-way there.... I am starting to become a bit frightened so I found this forum to read others' experiences.   I seem to be the oldest that I've seen.  I am a very fit 66 year old.  I am healthy and fairly active.  I recently retired... and gained even more weight than before.
I come from a fat family.  My father was about 5'8 and weighed 300 lbs and my mother was around 180.  I was a tomboy and extremely active so I didn't have a weight problem until I was in my mid thirties but the weight gain was minor.  Then I hit menapause... all you-know-what broke loose.... I rode my bike every day, I was eating the same as always but the weight just kept coming onto me.  It seemed like nothing could stop it.  I tried not eating lunch... that didn't work... I only ate more at supper or at bedtime.  I tried everything even Fen Fen (which really worked) until my doctor made me stop due to news that it caused heart problems in some people.  So the weight climbed again.
Heart problems run in my family as does knee replacement surgery, and later life diabetes.  July 3, 2010
Despite being a bit frightened of the surgery, I knew there could be a better me.  I continued and had my surgery on June 28th.  No surgery is fun, but this one isn't so bad.  No real pain, just soreness and a lot of gas.  I'm so excited to begin my journey.   The liquid diet isn't so bad and I look forward to the mushies.  I'm still not a bit hungry so I don't miss the food.  I'm 66, and I know that the rest of my life will be so much happier and healthier now that I've taken this step.   I would like to thank Dr. Hoffman and his wonderful staff for helping me to achieve this.  They all are wonderful, especially Dr. Hoffman who.... really cares.
