I am a 28 yr old mother of two, and I have struggled physically with my weight since the birth of my second child, but mentally as long as I can remember. I have yo-yo dieted for 8yrs and tried everything under the sun it seems. I successfully lost 50 lbs before I was married 3 yrs ago, and I felt great and confident. In an attempt to better my health, I decided to take myself off of antidepressants about a yr ago, physically I felt better but I rapidly gained 35 lbs and they just kept climbing. Naturally I was disgusted with myself after working so hard to lose all of the weight as well as the fact that I thought I was making the right decision by taking myself off of medication that didn't really help. I started looking into the lapband about a year after I quit taking the medication. I have to be honest, I was a skeptic about bariatric surgery because my mother had gotten gastric bypass a couple years earlier and the idea of cutting up your body and rerouting your organs just seemed crazy, but along with that, she hasn't really changed her eating habits and has started to gain weight. I thought what a waste of money. Still I started to research and see the differences, and the best surgical option for me. I looked into banding because I woulding be rerouting anything and essentially the form of my stomach would stay the same. Originally my bmi was 1/2 a point low so I was upset, but I did what anyone would do and let myself reach the point I needed. bad, I know. So, I was approved and chose my doctor. It took 3months to gain approval because I had to have a bmi of 40 and begin a 3month diet plan. I did it, it seemed like forever, but within two weeks I was meeting my dr, and two weeks later I had a surgery date. I'm just finishing my first week post-op and obviously very confused, probably due to lack of food. We'll see how it goes, because there's no turning back now.
