Even veteran banders have days that we arent exactly proud of. Just except it and move on. If you just keep in mind that a slip up is not the end of the world it will be ok. We all had fear and doubt. Emotionally it will be the hardest after SX but each day you learn something new and each pound will strengthen your resolve to make good choices. Dont worry you will do great.

Banded July 5Th And I Feel Horrible!
Mjv013 replied to Change704's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It truly gets better. About day 3 I sat on the computer reading only the horror stories crying my eyes out wondering exactly what I just did to myself. I promise you get gets easier each day and one day the pain is gone. It has turned out to be the best decision in my life (except marring my husband). Move around as much as you can and dont feel bad if you need to nap or just lay down. -
Port Area Post Surgery
Mjv013 replied to downhomechik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep it sure is!! For a few weeks after you may have to hold a pillow tight up to your stomach to cough or sneeze. It will hurt and feel like your insides may come out!! 2 days ago you had a port stitched to your muscle and it will be sore. You may have a few strange aches and pains but nothing should be so bad it scares you. I did not take any pain meds so I felt EVERYTHING. Its not so bad and one day soon all those weird pains will just be gone!! -
After a few weeks I felt good. Once you start feeling great and get into your own groove, it will be good. You still have to morn your old way of life too.

Im thinking it depends how far post op or if they are talking about for good. 1000 for a man is NOT enough. I'd guess 1200-1400 is a bit better. I was told as female by my nutritionist to consume about 1200. At the minimum 1000.

Mjv013 replied to lupediva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon made me wait 4 weeks. Then if I needed more I could return every 2 weeks as needed. -
Surgery Date July 16Th!!!
Mjv013 replied to Trina P's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My process was quick too. Hope everything falls into place for you and you dont have to reschedule. You will love it!! Good luck and congrats!!! -
I used aquafer. I had moments during healing the the itching was driving me crazy. Then I just used coco butter. I have a bit darker skin so scaring on me stays a long time if it ever will disappear. Im 21 months post op and my scars are soft and smooth but brown. They are still fading but they dont bother me.

Probably just the swelling. I cant see mine at all and Im 8 months pregnant. The thinner you get the easier it is to feel but you will probably never see it.

Chest Pain/shortness Of Breathe
Mjv013 replied to cmoody821's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember feeling like that too. I also had a hernia repair (totally unexpected). There was extra trauma and additional stitches put in the middle of your chest. As long as you can breath and dont feel like your having a heart attack the pain one of these days, sooner then you think. will just disappear!! If you are at all thirsty, you are already dehydrated. In the beginning especially, its really important to just pace yourself and get all your Water in. Good luck to you both. One day you will wake up and feel absolutely fantastic!!! -
After a few months mine went through the roof! So for about a year it was amazing. Then I got pregnant and he got deployed. So.... its still there but now I just have to wait 10 more months But that year taught us both a lot of new stuff I was not willing to try. Lets just say the lights never really got turned off again. I now prefer to see what it is I am doing

Ache Like Stich In My Left Side
Mjv013 replied to wenzz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too felt it. I also feel it anytime I get bloated. i feel it all the time now but then again I am 8 months pregnant. But seriously, anytime that muscle is stretched you will feel it. No worries. -
I dont know how much restriction you can have, but Im sure up to your band limit. I have 10cc's in a 14cc band and are 31 weeks pregnant. I got a fill the week I got pregnant (of course I didnt know yet) and had decent restriction. Before my last fill I went almost 6 months after a .5cc fill and felt great until I lost enough for another cc. Our bodies are all different so maybe a slight bump for you will put you right where you need to be. Good luck on that last little bit and hope you are in the green zone for a long time to come.

Two Weeks Post-Op Anxiety
Mjv013 replied to Tippytoes78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mental part is the toughest. The other suggestions are great. Dont worry to much at this point. You can stretch your pouch when you start eating regular food and over eat on a constant basis. Right now just relax and learn to listen to your body. Once you can tell the difference between real physical hunger and mental, you have won half the battle. Keep up the good work. You will be fine if you follow the rule and listen to your body. -
All Choked Up And Out Of Ideas..
Mjv013 replied to christinanewhart's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I after to agree with one of the other posters. Lap Band is something to take very seriously. You have to be commited in everyway to be successful. On that note, being diagnosed with pcos myself, I can understand your struggle. Metformin also did nothing for me. None of the pills and diets worked. With so much stacked against you its hard to lose weight. Trust me, I totally understand. Then trying to throw getting pregnant in the mix.... forget it. My Dr at one point told me that we would not help me get pregnant until I lost X amount of weight because the risk of sever complications was high. I did have to agree with him but it was horrible the first time he mentioned weight loss surgery. I was 271lbs at that point. I too have never had a regular cycle and had little hope after 17 years of getting pregnant. After more depression and more failures in dieting, I finally got the band. #1 to be healthy. I had given up having children especially since I was pushing 34. Each time I went to the Dr, something else was wrong. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, sore knees, bad skin.... the list goes on and on. I had surgery 10/2009 at 291 lbs and do not regret one single moment!! It has been the best decision I have ever made. Within 4 months I stopped all 7 of the medications I was taking. I never actually had cysts in my ovaries and was cleared of pcos. Fact: most people diagnosed with pcos do not actually have cysts or they can clear up. So I went on birth control because I was still having irregular periods. I stopped taking my BC on Nov 24, 2011 and found out on 12/26 I was expecting my first. I understand that each situation is different, but after 17 years of heartbreak and tears, I can finally say "I'm gonna be a mommy"!! If you are prepared to work hard nothing is impossible!!! Good luck and keep us posted on our decisions!! -
Yes, productive burping. I personally have never actually gotten food "UP" with it. The handful of times in the last 19 months its just been slimy. Your body produces "slime" just like spit to lubricate enough to eventually help the stuck food go down. The down side is that if you are in public, well... you cant stop it. Just go to the bathroom and spit it up until the food goes down. For me it is completely clear and then after 24 hours of liquid and soft food.

Fertile After Being Banded?
Mjv013 replied to kwood803's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I planned on waiting 1 year and it appears that taking BC for that year was a good decision on my part. Literally after I stopped taking it I got pregnant. I wasnt thrilled about taking it but my period got crazy so I used it to regulate. If you plan on waiting a year, use something.Condoms are the easiest! -
I was at 52 bmi and no one said a word about being "too fat". How horrible is that leader???!! In my pre -op classes I was not the heaviest one and we all opted for the band with full support from our leaders and Dr's. Do what YOU feel is right!! Its a life changing surgery and so very glad I did it. Good luck!!
