  1. I will not lie to you, it is NOT easy. However, it IS worth it. I see now that the Pre-OP diet really helped kick-start my weight loss, and prepared me for the stair-step back to regular food Post-OP. Every time I wanted to cheat, I reminded myself of all the things I wanted to do but could not because of the weight- like climb stairs without pain! I would also sometimes eat a SF fudgesicle (allowed on my preop diet). I had FANTASTIC support from my partner which helped in a BIG way. Just keep leaning on the people on this board, whatever support you have at home, and positive self-talk. Don't be suprised at headaches, bodyaches, all that stuff. It will get easier around day 3 or 4. Good luck, and welcome to your journey!
  2. Hi there. I saw your post about dealing with the relationship with food. My addiction is sugar and bread. I spent 3 years in Overeaters Anonymous and they saved my life. They directed me to "the body knows" It is a book that deals with all of that. I went for 3 years without sugar, flour, or wheat. It was damn hard work, I won't lie to you, but they teach you how to deal honestly with your relationship to food. Without it, I don't think I would be able to handle band-life. It is a structured program, but they are wonderful, and provide good support. You may want to start with the book "the body knows" It may help you enough to get you started. I will tell you that OA groups probably would not like the idea of the band, that is a down fall of the groups, but everything else is mucho helpful! write me anytime!

Post op 2 yrs, down 96 lbs

I don't want to scare you, but my doc told me if I develop a night time cough, or have issues such as this at any point to immediately call and come in, it could be slippage or band erosion, or a simple unfil for a time. Please don't take chances with your health.

    New Group--Banded in Kentucky

Duh, figured it out. I am a KY-born Indiana resident. Banded in KY at ST. Mary's Hospital by Dr. Lusco. LOVE HIM and HIS TEAM! Banded on 3/31/10!
  5. Hi there. I am 1 week post-op. Here is what to expect; 1. Seminar 2. Surgeon appointment (to see if they will accept you) 3. Filing with insurance to see what they will cover. 4. Fulfilling insurance requirements, if any. 5. Pre-op testing. (Chest x-ray, blood work, barium swallow) 6. Pre-op diet (if surgeone requires one, can be hellacious, but worth it!) 7. Surgery! This is a summary, and every surgeon is different, with different requirements. I think it was worth every step!

    New Group--Banded in Kentucky

Hey, I was banded in KY....how do I join the group?
  7. Hey there! Yea for March 31sters! Yes, I am on a stair-step diet. Right now I can have stuff like yogurt, milk, creamy soups, protein shakes, etc. On Wednesday, I get to have scrambled eggs and oatmeal, mashed potatoes! WOW I can't wait for that, lol. You know, I could never be a vegetarian, I miss meat :)

So, how did your surgery go? Mine, being the first surgery I have ever had was smooth as silk! Pain was minimal, tolerable. I went back to work yesterday, maybe a little too much excitement, but doing o.k. You?

    Throwing Up

I would, just to discuss it with the professionals, and maybe talk about why/how it happened.

    Post op three days

I was banded on 3/31, and had the same problem. The doc suggested I take Aleve (2) 2x per day to help with that. It took me almost an hour to get the shakes in each time, but I got them in. The rest of the time, I drank water or Crystal Light- you have to stay hydrated. It is getting easier to drink and get thicker liquids down, give it a day or two, you will see a difference. Good luck!
  11. I was just banded on 3/31, and will just begin excersize next week, have lost 17 lbs since I started pre-op to today, don't really know what to expect, so I will set my challenge at 10 lbs. I am sure when I hit solid food again in a couple of weeks, I will need a challenge.:smile2:

    Overwhelmed...

Oh my God, Palmtreegirl, I am so sorry that happened to you. People of any age can be so terribly cruel. You have to know that you are worth it! You are worth the steps that you are taking to be healthier, even though they may not be so easy. You are a beautiful person, and it's ashame that those kids are already so sick in their minds that they have to sling insults at someone they don't even know, just to make themselves feel better. They were feeling your confidence and power, and it scared them, so they resorted to their own illness. To answer your question, yes, I totally relate. I, too am concerned that I will once again sabatoge myself like I have so many times in my life before. The good thing about this is we are both aware that we are our worst enemy. We have to relax and know that we deserve this positive change, and clear the head of all the negative self-talk that we are so good at. Love yourself! You are doing the best things for it! You can talk to me anytime, if you need someone to lean on. Keep up the good work!

Congrats to you, I am sure your surgery went fine, just let us know how all is going! Remember to walk off the gas pain!

    Newbie here, sx on 3/31/10!

Hi everyone! Yesterday I was banded, and I am sooooo glad to be on this side of the fence...It's exciting! The sx went smooth as silk, I even had hernia repair too! The gas pains are terribly uncomfortable, but I am dealing with it. A little pain is ok, knowing that I get to begin again with life and getting healthy. 2 of my nurses have been banded over 3 years, and they have both lost a tremendous amount of weight, and look fantastic! Walking does amazing things to get rid of the gas, and gas-x strips are great too! Well, I guess that's enough for now, talk to you all soon!

    Surgery tomorrow 3/31/10

Congrats to all of us banded 3/31, and for all the rest on the 1st and the 2nd. Mine went smooth as silk yesterday, and feels really good that I went through it, and didn't back out. Right now is time for healing, and learning how to eat again. Conratulations!

    Newbie here, sx on 3/31/10!

OK folks, so in about 10 hours, it will be my turn! I hope my liver has shrunk enough, and I hope everything goes smoothly. I will be back on here as soon as I can to report in on how things went. Everyone send me good energy and positive thoughts! Thanks for your support!
  20. OK, so it's Sunday, and Wednesday is my day. I am nervous, excited, scared, happy, doubtful, emotional to say the least. I feel like I am running to the edge of a cliff, and not slowing down before I reach the edge. Wow. I really didn't expect to feel like this. I guess it is normal to feel like this. AAAHHHHHH!
  21. AllieKat

    what if i fail....?

Having the fear is normal, there are several of us talking about that over in the "overwhelmed" thread. We have all decided that we forge ahead in spite of the fear, and with hope that it will work because it already has for so many! Have faith, do the work, and in time, you will get results!

    So Upset

You know, in-laws can be really crappy, and unfortunately when you marry, you get them too. I have dealt with a similar situation before, and I learned that I don't owe anyone an explanation for what I do with my own body. If they bring it up or make snarky comments, I would simply respond "what I do to or put in my body is my business, shall we change the subject"? As for hubby, he hurt you. Men unfortunately are good at that sometimes. He will not ever understand why you didn't want anyone knowing, so stop trying to convince him. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, agree to disagree with hubby, try to forgive him for being a ding-bat, and be proud that you are willing to make such a huge committment to fix what 'ails you. We are all proud, so keep Kickin Ass!

    Overwhelmed...

Here is our new mantra: no more fear, no more fear, (I can't hear you!)NO MORE FEAR! NO MORE FEAR! I keep telling myself, so I will share with you; "COURAGE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FEAR, IT IS SIMPLY MOVING FORWARD IN SPITE OF IT" so fear, I tell you.... KISS MY BIG WHITE AS* Have a great Monday everyone!
