  1. Thank you both for the the great advice. I am pretty much settled on the sleeve. My insurance (bcbs IL) just started covering it. I am still scared about anything happening to me and leaving my son w/o a mother. But I feel like if I keep going down this path he will lose me anyway. I have no energy to play with him and that breaks my heart. I want to help him learn and explore the world but I barely feel like leaving the house most days. I want to set a good example and be there for him for a long time to come. He is my entire reason for living. The time off is not something I like but my boss is pretty understanding ( I am a nurse but it's more paperwork than anything) so I think I can manage. I am really excited and can't wait. I have never been thin so I can't even imagine how I will look or feel when I lose the weight but it has to be better than this.

Has anyone known or have you lost over 150 lbs with the sleeve? How long did it take?

  2. Ok so I was 100% sure I wanted the Lapband. I've been doing research for about 6 months and it made the most sense for me. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy (and I mean SINGLE ! No man at all and no family except my sister who will only babysit once in a blue moon) So if anything happens to me I have little support. But I went to my seminar yesterday and learned about the sleeve. It is less drastic than the bypass but still body altering. And the woman made it sound like there was very little chance to loose 100+ pounds with the band. I am 310 and my goal weight is 150-160 depending on where I feel confortable. Now I know that wls is just a tool and I have to change my lifestyle and I am ready to do that. But I hesitate to spend so much money on the band and not lose my excess weight. But I am not sure how I will manage with the time off work with the sleeve. And the thought of something so permanant scares the shit out of me. I would love to hear from people who changed from lapband to sleeve or just people who have had the sleeve especially single mothers. I am just so confused and want to do the right thing. Thanks!

  4. If you feel that you are ready to date than I would say go for it. As long as you are upfront (If the relationship gets serious) about the Lapband I don't see how that would be changing the rules. I am kind of in the same boat you are. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy. I have not dated since his father and that was before I even knew I was pregnant, so about 3 years.I know I am not ready but that is what's right for you.

  5. Hi All!!

I am pre-band but I had question about Protein. I know that it is a very important dietary need with the band and I was just wondering how to measure protein. How do u know how many grams of protein are in a certain piece of meat? I have always been bad at weighing and measuring food. Also what is the daily recommended protein intake for a banded person?

    Thanks!!!

  6. My mother died when I was three of a Heroin overdose. I was sent to live with my gradparents. Everytime I cried about my mom they would feed me. Then my dad died when I was 8 and again when I was sad they would feed me. I was sent to a boarding school at 6 where I was raped by a worker and I again got feed instead of getting therapy. food has always been there for me. When everyone leaves food is still there.

  7. Hey all. I finally got signed up for insurance from my work. After 3 months of having none and doing tons of research about the Lapband and not being able to advance in the process. See I started a new job in March and b/c of the income increase ( which is good) I lost my medical card (Not so good). Anyway I am excited to finally be able to get the ball rolling. I have BC/BS IL. If anyone has had any experience dealing with them any advice would be greatly appreciated.:bored:

  8. I know how you feel. I am a single mom and at the heaviest I've ever been (300 lbs) And when I say single mom I mean single in every sense of the word. No family (orphan) and I left my child's father before I knew I was pregnant and can't find him to tell him he is a dad. That was last relationship or any kind of romantic/sexual contact I had. That was a little over 3 years ago. I have gained over 50 pounds since then and have been depressed.

That being said I have also become a Christian and am trying to find myself and become stronger as a woman and in my faith. So I know I am not ready for a relationship yet. I have just started the lapband journey and want to lose the weight before I start dating again also. No matter how lonely I get.

I think by then I wont know how to date! lol. But I think you have to do what's right for you. I used to settle for anyone that would have me because I thought I was lucky anyone would want me because I was so fat. But I am done settling for that no matter what size I am.

As for telling I would go on a first date and if that goes well then I would tell them.

  9. Hi, my name is Nicole and I am wanting to get the Lap Band. I am 5'5'' , 280 lbs., and 22 years old. I have been overweight my entire life. I was on Medicaid but now that my income exceeds guidelines I was dropped. I started my job in March and plan to get insurance through them. They offer BC/BS (IL). I know they cover the surgery but I am not eligible for insurance for another month. (Three month wait) My question is if there is a certain amount of time I have to be insured to get the surgery? I plan to ask as soon as I am eligible but would like to get a heads up. I am so excited to get the surgery but there is already a 6 month wait and I don't want to have to wait more. Thanks!
