  1. Hi everyone. My name is Nicole. I am on month 2 of my medically supervised diet and not doing so well. I seem to want to eat everything in sight. I feel like I'm sabatoging myself. I want this surgery more than anything but I love food. I am always hungry. My insurance only requires 3 months so I want to prove that I can stick to the diet. I have my dietician and psychologist and surgeon appt. next Thursday. My PCP just put me on a 1600-1800 calorie diet along with exercise. Does anyone have any tips? One of my problems is that I am a single mom and work full time with no support. When I get home I am exhausted and go for the convienence foods. Please any advice would be great!! Thanks!
  2. Thank you both for the great advice. I do try to plan my meals out. I usually have a granola bar and yogurt for breakfast, a lean cuisine or smart one and a sugar free pudding for lunch, and two healthy snacks one at 10 and one at 3. Dinner seems to be the problem. I plan a healthy meal but end up overeating so it doesn't even matter how healthy it was b/c I end up having 3-4 servings. My main problems are eating out and portion control in the evening. @laylasmonjo - I bought the womens Once a Day vitamin but everytime I take it I throw up if I don't eat something IMMEDIATELY after. I mean like take it and then shove something else down there before it comes up. I guess I just have a really sensitive gag reflex. I will try to see if I can find something that goes down better. My other thing is that it is just me and my son so we have a lot left over and it usually gets wasted if I don't eat it. Thank you for the support. @tdov1 - I loved my crockpot but mine caught fire and charred the wires. lol! I had it on the stove and turned on the wrong burner. I need to get a new one. I tried WW too and it worked very well for me but I don't have the money right now and keeping track of the points was really time consuming. Thanks for your great advice.

    Random ?

I am a LPN and I work with adults with diabilities in a day training facility.
  4. Ok so I was 100% sure I wanted the LAP-BAND?. I've been doing research for about 6 months and it made the most sense for me. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy (and I mean SINGLE ! No man at all and no family except my sister who will only babysit once in a blue moon) So if anything happens to me I have little support. But I went to my seminar yesterday and learned about the sleeve. It is less drastic than the bypass but still body altering. And the woman made it sound like there was very little chance to loose 100+ pounds with the band. I am 310 and my goal weight is 150-160 depending on where I feel confortable. Now I know that wls is just a tool and I have to change my lifestyle and I am ready to do that. But I hesitate to spend so much money on the band and not lose my excess weight. But I am not sure how I will manage with the time off work with the sleeve. And the thought of something so permanant scares the shit out of me. I would love to hear from people who changed from LAP-BAND? to sleeve or just people who have had the sleeve especially single mothers. I am just so confused and want to do the right thing. Thanks!
  5. Hi! I am 22, 5' 5'' and have a BMI of 50. I am just starting the whole process and hope to be banded in Oct if everything goes right.

    Confused: Lapband or Sleeve

Thank you both for the the great advice. I am pretty much settled on the sleeve. My insurance (bcbs IL) just started covering it. I am still scared about anything happening to me and leaving my son w/o a mother. But I feel like if I keep going down this path he will lose me anyway. I have no energy to play with him and that breaks my heart. I want to help him learn and explore the world but I barely feel like leaving the house most days. I want to set a good example and be there for him for a long time to come. He is my entire reason for living. The time off is not something I like but my boss is pretty understanding ( I am a nurse but it's more paperwork than anything) so I think I can manage. I am really excited and can't wait. I have never been thin so I can't even imagine how I will look or feel when I lose the weight but it has to be better than this. Has anyone known or have you lost over 150 lbs with the sleeve? How long did it take?
  7. Hi All!! I'm so excited b/c I just found out that my insurance only requires a 3 month supervised diet rather than the 6 month one that I thought. 3 months seems a lot less daunting! I know its gonna be tough but I can do it. I got this baby!!

    Protein Question?

Hi All!! I am pre-band but I had question about protein. I know that it is a very important dietary need with the band and I was just wondering how to measure protein. How do u know how many grams of protein are in a certain piece of meat? I have always been bad at weighing and measuring food. Also what is the daily recommended protein intake for a banded person? Thanks!!!

    To date or to wait

If you feel that you are ready to date than I would say go for it. As long as you are upfront (If the relationship gets serious) about the Lapband I don't see how that would be changing the rules. I am kind of in the same boat you are. I am a single mom of a 2 1/2 year old boy. I have not dated since his father and that was before I even knew I was pregnant, so about 3 years.I know I am not ready but that is what's right for you.

For the singles here... Just do this..

My name is Nicole and I am 22. I just started the Lapband process and hope to be banded in Jan 2011. I live in Springfield, IL. I am a single mom of a beautiful son and I work full-time as a nurse. I am single and I am looking for more of a friendship now as I am still very insecure about my weight.

    Why are YOU Fat?

My mother died when I was three of a Heroin overdose. I was sent to live with my gradparents. Everytime I cried about my mom they would feed me. Then my dad died when I was 8 and again when I was sad they would feed me. I was sent to a boarding school at 6 where I was raped by a worker and I again got feed instead of getting therapy. Food has always been there for me. When everyone leaves food is still there.

    Whats your ethnic background?

Polish and Irish....But my mom was adopted so I could be anything else.
  15. Congrats!!! And I love the post. Hope to be there soon!!
  16. Hey all. I finally got signed up for insurance from my work. After 3 months of having none and doing tons of research about the Lapband and not being able to advance in the process. See I started a new job in March and b/c of the income increase ( which is good) I lost my medical card (Not so good). Anyway I am excited to finally be able to get the ball rolling. I have BC/BS IL. If anyone has had any experience dealing with them any advice would be greatly appreciated.:bored:

    Anyone on here single?

I know how you feel. I am a single mom and at the heaviest I've ever been (300 lbs) And when I say single mom I mean single in every sense of the word. No family (orphan) and I left my child's father before I knew I was pregnant and can't find him to tell him he is a dad. That was last relationship or any kind of romantic/sexual contact I had. That was a little over 3 years ago. I have gained over 50 pounds since then and have been depressed. That being said I have also become a Christian and am trying to find myself and become stronger as a woman and in my faith. So I know I am not ready for a relationship yet. I have just started the lapband journey and want to lose the weight before I start dating again also. No matter how lonely I get. I think by then I wont know how to date! lol. But I think you have to do what's right for you. I used to settle for anyone that would have me because I thought I was lucky anyone would want me because I was so fat. But I am done settling for that no matter what size I am. As for telling I would go on a first date and if that goes well then I would tell them.

  21. My name is Nicole. I am 22 and the single mother of a 2 1/2 year old boy. I am a nurse in IL. I am just now starting the process and would also like a buddy.
  22. Hi, my name is Nicole and I am wanting to get the Lap Band. I am 5'5'' , 280 lbs., and 22 years old. I have been overweight my entire life. I was on Medicaid but now that my income exceeds guidelines I was dropped. I started my job in March and plan to get insurance through them. They offer BC/BS (IL). I know they cover the surgery but I am not eligible for insurance for another month. (Three month wait) My question is if there is a certain amount of time I have to be insured to get the surgery? I plan to ask as soon as I am eligible but would like to get a heads up. I am so excited to get the surgery but there is already a 6 month wait and I don't want to have to wait more. Thanks!
