  1. Hi Bandster Bunnies! Thanks for checking on us Froggie. I think I am doing very well, though not near the weight loss the rest of you have experienced. I have lost a pretty solid 25 lb since my surgery on April 9th. I have had one fill about one month ago and have very little restriction. My doctor does not tell me how much the fill is. I have MS and am very heat intolerant, so exercise in South Texas during the summertime is almost impossible. Having said that, I think 25 lb weight loss is pretty phenomenal. I just keep plugging along slowly but surely. I am very happy with my band and just happy that the scale is going down instead of up..... even though it is slow.

DJ, So glad to hear everything is looking up for you. I go for my postop checkup on Monday. Still having some soreness, pulling and pain in the port area....but that sounds like par for the course. Congrats on the weight loss. It looks like I am down about nine pounds so far. Just started "mushies" yesterday and so far so good. Mellie

Congratulations! Take good care of yourself and remember you are building the ground floor of a bright and terrific future. Keep your chin up and remember that you will have some good days and some not so good days after surgery.....but all is good! Thinking of you! Mellie

This is something my family has done for years to help with a queasy, nauseated tummy. Make up some SF jello (small pkg) with two cups of boiling water. Then you can DRINK it as either a hot or a cold drink. I usually put it over a whole glass of ice and a little extra water to dilute it. It helps you keep hydrated by getting your water in and the jello coats your tummy and helps you to feel better. Good Luck And I hope this will help you!

    Problem throwing away food

Way to go!!! I am so proud of you for making your stand. That pie would have been calling your name all evening from the countertop...but not from the disposal

Froggie, Good luck at work tomorrow...don't over do it. I was just reading in my Lap Band Solution Book and it says don't eat if you are not hungry.... so I guess that applies to the protein drinks too.

    1 month tomorrow post-op

Hi Mary, These forums are great, I have gotten a tremendous amount of reassurance and encouragement here. I was just banded last Friday, April 9th and so far so good. PB stands for productive burping....ughhh. I hope that by following the "rules" I can avoid that one as much as possible. I am still on full liquid diet and have no restriction in my band, other than swelling from the surgery. Hopefully we can get to know each other better and help each other along this Journey! Mellie

I was wondering about Waynooo too. I was banded Friday the 9th and I am doing pretty well. Yes, I still have the pain when my four hours is up, but hopefully by tomorrow I will be able to just use tylenol. It seems like after I have laid down for a little while I have trouble with deep breaths and I am still very hoarse until I get some fluids down, but overall I feel good. Not hungry...just make sure that I eat some Jello anytime I take my Hydrocodone elixir.

Thinatheart, I can so relate to you. I was terrible with my pre-op diet. I was banded on Friday the 9th and now I feel a quiet resolve to succeed. I am also self-pay. Let's do this together with God's help.

Hi BobKat, I had hiatal hernia repair and Banding done at the same time on April 9th. I think I would question your surgeon about this as hiatal hernia repair along with banding seems to be quite common.

Hi Rosmay, So sorry you are having to deal with a cold on top of your pre-op diet. That is a real bummer. I have always wanted to visit New Zealand....now if I ever get a chance to go, I will have a friend to look in on!

Hi Kim, Fellow Texan here! I live in Edinburg, Texas but I was banded in San Antonio on Friday April 9th. It is about a four hour drive, but well worth it for a great surgeon and office team. Are you doing any protein shakes, or Sugar Free Jello? I find both of those things to be very soothing to my tummy...especially when the rest of the family are going on with their eating. So far I have not been hungry, but when I feel a little queasy after taking my liquid pain med, the jello is a lifesaver. I know what you mean by feeling scared and left out, but just remember once we get on the road and back to solid foods, we will be able to feel more included with our families. I have a grown son still at home and of course my husband and they are both hearty eaters. My challenge will be to eat slowly when they are around, because they can really wolf it down. I am hoping that some of these good eating habits will wear off on them. Just remember that ultimately you have become a "bander" for you and so that you can become a happier healthier woman. Yes, you will be eating differently from the rest of your family, but my hope and prayer for you is that as they see the difference this will make for you that they will get on board and become more supportive of this GREAT decision that you have made. You are doing a good job, keep up the good work and see if you can add some protein drinks to your regimen it will really help. Melanie

    April Bandster Bunnies

Hello Bandster Bunnies! I had my Endoscopy on Thursday to confirm a hiatal hernia and then had hernia repair and banding on Friday April 9th. We had a 250 mile drive home from San Antonio, but overall I am doing very well. I have actually felt a little worse today following the drive home then I did yesterday right after surgery....definitely more bloated. I was telling Froggie D that they gave me a device to use called a Voldyne Volumetric Exerciser that is supposed to help build up my oxygen intake and to clear my lungs of the anesthesia...it has actually been harder for me to make it to my mark today than it was yesterday...but I am still plugging away at it. I am on the liquid version of the hydrocodone....but believe it or not it actually revs me up and I haven't been able to sleep . Oh well, it does take the pain away and thank the Lord I have not been hungry! It is so good to read all of your posts and I wish the best for all of the up coming surgeries.
  16. Cocoabean,

I just wanted to say that you look Fantastic! I am a very new member of the Band! Last friday as a matter of fact, but I wanted to comment on something you said about only losing a pound every month or so....I will be so happy to be in that category than worrying about putting on another pound or two for the month! You are doing great!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hello 50 Gang! I am officially a member of the band as of Friday April 9th. I was reading about the problems Glammaw is having with her hiatal hernia... I am self pay and fortunately having a hiatal hernia made it so that I could afford the band. The doctor is charging the insurance for the hernia repair and then just charging me the price of the band while he is already in there. I am hoping that the repair will bring me off of Nexium, which is quite pricey. Hope you are feeling better real soon glammaw. My doctor is in San Antonio, so it took us four hours to drive home today. I laid in the back seat the whole way. Feeling a little bit tough, but better now that I have had a nap, a fresh slug of my pain med and sipping on my water again. I look forward to getting to know you girls as I am just a beginner on my journey.
  18. Happy Easter,

Hope you are enjoying the kids. We are having Turkey, veggies and salad, so I am trying to be a good girl. Just a few more days girl!

    reaching out for help

I have no experience with the band as of yet, but I am 51 years old and have had a struggle with my weight for most of my life. I am scheduled for my banding this Friday, April 9th, so I can only tell you that I wish you the best and am here if you need someone to talk to. If you will go to the thread entitled "looking for a mentor" there is one person in particular...Indiogirl55..... that has been such an inspiration to me. There are many great people on that site and until someone writes back you can glean a lot of encouragement there. I adore my father so I can only imagine the pain you are going through with the loss of yours. Hang in there and just take one step at a time for now.
  20. Hi Sweetie! How are you doing? Did your surgery go well? I am not mentor material yet, I am due to be banded on Friday, April 9th., but I do live in Texas and I am here to listen and encourage.

    celebrating hubby's b-day

Wow...what a great present for hubby. How nice is it to be able to wear "sexy" shoes again? You look fabulous.
  22. Hi,

I have been reading a number of your posts....past and present. You are such an inspiration to me. I am scheduled for banding next week on April 9th. I am 51 years old and have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis for about ten years now, so I am very motivated to eat healthier and stay on my feet as long as possible. I am very heat intolerant, which is not great when you live in South Texas... so I am going to have to be inventive when it comes to exercise. One step at a time. I will concentrate on making it through post op first! Thanks for all of your good advice and encouragement.

    Melanie

  23. Betsy, I have received so much benefit from your posts. Thank you so much. I am 51 years old and have MS. I am due to be banded next week on April 9th. I look forward to seeing you in the forums!

  24. Hello,

I would be very happy to be friends. I am 51 years old and will be banded next friday, April 9th. I have MS and due to a lack of exercise have packed on about 60 lb over the past ten years. I have to do something so that I can remain healthy and on my feet as long as possible. I hope we can be an encouragement to each other.

completely unfilled and still having problems

Nurse Jess, I am so sorry that you have had such an ordeal to bear. I hope you heal and recover quickly and that the things you learned while on the band will help you to your goal post band. Rest, heal and keep you chin up.
