  1. Walking is good! Any type of movement is exercise. The key is to just move more. Simple really. Doesn't require a gym membership or a heavy duty workout machine. Do stuff you find fun. Dance around; it's movement :)

I could eat all of that too. I eat a lot more than most bandsters. In any case I think you have the wrong idea of how the band works. Read this link http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html It should help you out.

  2. My doc said 3 bites... maybe 6. I'm not allowed to count calories. only bites. Mine is so loose I am still able to eat an entire cup or more of food. Hopefully that will change soon.

    Hope that helps. :)

What the? You're going to get all the nutrients you need from 3 bites of food? :S Oh my.

OP. A cup of food is usually prescribed but the band will not keep you from eating.

  3. Welp, Reverie and I are going to disagree again.

I think Breakfast is important. (and no, Rev. I don't have any sites to back my opinion up.. I don't feel like debating). Bkfst doesn't have to be a big deal. It can be a Protein drink, a glass of skim milk, greek yogurt & fresh fruit, oatmeal. It could even be leftovers from the night before. I was never a breakfast eater in my pre-banded life. Now I am.

The thing is, OP, you're not happy with your current results and you're not eating breakfast. Why not try eating something in the first hour or two after getting up and see if it makes a difference?

The other suggestions (hydrating, journaling food, moving more and reading Dr. Simpson's "Not about restriction" post) are excellent ideas too.

    Best of luck to you.

No problem ;) Was just merely pointing out the fact that breakfast has nothing to do with one's metabolism. I never said it wasn't important but there is no set time to eat breakfast. That's all :)

  4. Start logging your food. Exercise if you are not. We tend to eat more and move less than we imagine. There is no problem with potatoes and ice cream, in moderation. If you're overindulging in them then that's another story. If you don't have a digital food scale, definitely invest in one. The true serving size of 1/2 cup of ice cream will probably shock you.

Also, no need to eat breakfast if you don't care to. It has no effect on your metabolism.

  5. To answer so of the posted questions, my calories usually fluctuate between 1200-1600 daily. I stay away from most carbs, all breads & pastas (I have a hard time eating them, they usually get stuck, so I avoid them all together) etc. I do eat alot of Proteins and green veggies, and Vitamin Water. And I use the gym at my work usually 3 days a week. I do the treadmill for 45 min, the eliptical for 30 min, and bicycle for 30 min, and then do usually 3 20 reps sets of crunches, the thigh machine, and butterfly machine. I would like to do more, but I do have some joint issues and I'm usually pretty swollen the next day. Maybe doing the liquid diet again for a week or two would help.

If you're seriously doing all of those exercises within one day, you're undereating, which is probably why you aren't losing. I workout for an hour a day, sometimes 2 hours and I'm losing weight eating 1750-1800 calories a day. Try eating more, honestly.

  6. Track your calories more closely. Weight-loss happens when you're eating less than you burn on a daily basis. There's no trick or tips to losing really. In any case, plateaus are common and should be expected. Weight-loss isn't linear nor constant, nor should you be comparing your amount of weight loss to anyone else. We're all different and no two bodies are going to lose at the same rate. It just doesn't happen.

  7. I used to weigh daily but stopped because I was freaking out/obsessing over the number, but that was before I realized and understood that fluctuations are to be expected. In fact, some people can see a 10lb fluctuation in ONE day. Your hormone levels, the amount of food in your GI tract, sodium, Water, muscle Water retention..and so many other things all play a role in the number the scale spits out at you.

I started weighing weekly but have gone back to daily weigh-ins as I am looking to lose the last 5-10 and then I have plans to gain some mass, so daily weighing will be optimal for me. If anything, my suggestion is to use the scale, use measurements, and use your clothing as judging points. If you're dropping clothing sizes, you're losing fat and doing what you should be doing :)

  8. I was 19 when I was banded and surgery was a breeze - my journey has been flawless but I definitely understand why you're worried/anxious. It's all part of the process! You'll do great if your head is in the game.

  9. Are you eating that much Protein because you are doing P90 X? Your diet of what your signature says of icecream, poptarts etc.... must come in between all that Protein? ;)

P90X has nothing to do with the amount of protein I take in. Do some reading and learn about the benefits of protein. I keep mine on the high side for various reasons. The more protein you eat, the fuller you generally are. Higher protein diets also preserve lean body mass, aka your muscle mass, something that most weight-loss patients lose very quickly, which overall leads to a slowed metabolism and screwed up thyroid, leptin, and other hormone levels, but let's not go there.

From day 1 I got no less than 90g+ of protein per day. That's what works for me; stick to your 20-25g of protein per meal if it works for you. I eat 2-3 meals per day so that wouldn't work for me, simple. I wasn't out to prove anyone wrong, except that false notion that your body can only take in so much protein at once; that is completely untrue, but to each their own.

And yep, protein fits in with my poptarts, ice cream, reese's, etc. :) Calories in vs calories out, love.

  10. I can't say I feel like I threw in the towel but I do have days where I ask myself why I even got banded. I don't regret it one bit but if I knew all I knew now..would I have ever gotten banded? Definitely not. Especially seeing as how I did it all without a fill. I don't have this so called 'restriction' and I never went after it. I just got my head and the game and pushed and pushed; could I have done it without a silicone ring? Dunno.

  11. That site is geared towards body builders, not for weight loss. I stand by the 20 to 25grams per meal. We all do what works for us individually.

Doesn't negate your statement that the body can only process a certain amount of Protein at once ;)

Debora I eat a lot of lean Protein, fish, chicken, turkey etc. cheese has a lot of protein as do foods like fat free ricotta, fat free cream cheese, greek/fage yogurt, etc. I generally eat no less than 130g of protein per day.

  12. Is anyone doing low carb dieting pursuing lap band? Or have had lap band and currently doing low carb? I have been doing low carb for the past 6 weeks and have lost a considerable amount of weight. I would like to continue low carb, but not sure how this will work with the lap band.

Why wouldn't it work with the band? I did low carb for the first 7-8 months, lost flawlessly but now I eat carbs.
