  2. Hi All,

This time next week I'll be in Belgium, awaiting surgery. I'm a bit worried though - Frederik said I should follow a 2 week 'low-fat' diet, so I just started eating healthier foods, but haven't really been calorie counting or anything. And I'm eating a lot of carbs.

However, the real problem is that I got panicky at the weekend and stuffed myself with absolute garbage (pizza, chocolate ice cream etc). So - did anyone cheat on their pre-op diet? (I plan to make up for it this week), and is there any recommendation on what diet to follow? I see a whole bunch of people on liquid diets PRE op.

Have I put myself at risk? I know it sounds like I have NO self-control at all, but I have managed to successfully follow diets in the ast, I think it's all the 'after surgery you can't' got into my head and I went a bit nuts.

I'm getting really worried, and waking up thining 'what am I doing??'

  4. Hello all

I have been awol for a few weeks, but delighted to see you girls posting on here again as I have some news to share .... I am 6 weeks pregnant!!!

First new round of clomid started in August and we hit the jackpot! And it is without a doubt entirely due to the weightloss, which of course is due to the band and the whole reason I had the op in the first place was to fulfill my dream of becoming a mum.

Me and hubs are still in shock as together we have been trying for 6 long years and I tried several times before that in the 16 years since I was told it was unlikely to ever happen for me because of PCOS, and yet now my hormone levels are back to normal.

The last 2 weeks have been a rollercoaster since we found out as I have been having severe cramps and they thought I was having an ectopic, and then found that one of my ovaries is very swollen to 10cms and has 2 large cysts of 5x5cms and 5x7cms in it, and my god its agony and I am very bloated and swollen.

We finally got to see the little blob of a sac housing our baby on the scan yesterday and I cannot tell you the relief, but they they will be scanning me every 2 weeks now to keep an eye on the cysts.

So i also had to go and see Freddie last week to get a defill as I'd not been able to keep anything down for 3 days, so literally have a mil left in the band, but luckily I have only gone up 3lb in the last week from eating normally, whereas after my defill in May I put on a stone in that first week as I had been so dehydrated.

So, i'll keep popping here to check on all your progresses, and of course to keep you updated on my news, but you will of course all be at your goals by the time I am back on the band wagon in just over 9 months, so i'll be a newbie once again!

Very well done Claire on reaching goal, I never quite got there weight wise, but I defo have end goal wise.

Good luck and best wishes to all xxx

yyyyiiipppeeee im soo pleased for you patty, how amazing for it to work first time, this band works wonders and helps people in many different ways lol congrats and look after yourself and as claire says keep in touch,it makes my day hearing such lovley stories well done xxx

  5. Hi All, new to this but was thinking for a long time of having a lap band done and was wondering how to go about organising it. I live in ireland and was just wondering if Dr De Bruyne comes to ireland. I'd love to hear from someone from ireland who has had the surgery with him. did you book directly with the doctor or with a company? Is there an aftercare package? what happens with the refills? how much did it cost? sorry for all the questions. thanks

hi mummy im from ni if it helps lol,yes he come to bangor in ni once a month and to dublin every 2 weeks for fills, and yes i and most of the people on here booked direct as it is cheaper,as for aftercare there isnt a packaged as such you pay 90 for fills when you want them thats your choice how often to have them but if you have all your fills with dr chris's team and anything happens to your band he will correct it,i think it about 4200 euro, that's including hotel for two for 3 days, your surgery and taxi's to and from hospital and the airport sot you just have to buy your flight, they are very professional and hospitals extremly clean, ive tried every diet in the book and after 5 kids couldnt lose the weight or if i did i would put it all back on again and im so happy in myself now ive lost just over 4 stone and have found my confidence again so for me it is win win goodluck hun xx

  6. hi slinky,

I rang julie and she gave me a phone number to a couple doing emergency unfills... guess what I still waiting for their reply since 3pm yesterday. That is a total disgrace that they have thier phone switched off for all that time.that has to brought up to frederik because in case of emergency like myself yesterday we r left alone here in northern ireland. I rang julie back and said that I was trying for hours and there is no respond.I ended up ringing frederik and got number of emergency nurse in dublin. and guess again at 7pm I just got to my car and travel all the way down to dublin just for 2 min procedure.I was back home at 1am.The girl is really lovely waited for me and done quick unfill. I am glad I went because I got really bad on the way there, I defenately wouldnt survive another night.I still feel a bit sore because of the swelling but it will get better in a day. As a conclusion to the whole thing we are really neclegted in NI. I thought that if someone is for emergencies means it, Very unresponsible people, should be available in cases like that one. at the moment the main thing is that I feel much better, I very weak and shaky wasnt drinking since monday, just take it easy, it was some lesson learnt and my fill last week was so small only 0.25ml but I couldnt believe how much problem so litlle can cause.

    thanks for ur help yesterday,

    blondynurs

so glad your ok hun and yes that is a bloody disgrace, especially as you wait until your quite bad before you phone anyone then when you get desperate and cant take it anymore your left to wait again, they shoul have there dam phones on or freddy should get some new staff,i was talking to a girl yesterday and she said the royal hospital will defill in an emergency but not sure if they take the whole fill out or just a bit,but i know how you feel when i was like that i left it until i couldnt cope and was in agony with my back,if i were you hun i would just sip Water and have some ice lollies for a couple of days and let the swelling go down how much di she take out xx

  7. hi slinky,

Can u help me and give my phone number to anybody who can do defills here in NI,asap PLEASE !!! I hope she can come to my house and do it, or will I have to travel.

please I am waiting for ur reply.

    thanks slinky

    blondynurse

  8. Hi All,

I'm booked in for 18th with Dr Chris. Still very scared, but really hopeful too. I know it's not a quick fix, but I'm hoping it will give me a helping hand to get myself on track.

    Terrified!

    R

well done hun on making a good choice dr chris is a top surgeon and dont worry the band work different in different people you will be fine,is someone going with you and remember to pack light you wont need that much good luck

  9. How frustrating is that!

    Have you got some restriction?

How about the amount you eat? Are you able to eat smaller or slightly bigger portions?

    What are you eating?

    Are you doing any exercise?

Do hope you get some movement as it can be very demoralising. However, I am sure that once you have the right amount in your band then it will start to work more effectively for you.

Would be interested to hear the theories on why this happens fromother bandsters and Dr Chris and his team????

Take care and hope all sorted soon for you.

    Cx

hi clare your doing so well, isn't it funny to think you are underweight as such lol below your target would you of thought it possible this time last year,it's amazing the difference it makes, bet you have been shopping crazy, but it does feel nice to buy things in decent sizes lol well done xxx

  10. hello everybody, hope everyone is doing well. as for me im ready for my 6th fill as i have not lost any weight over 5 months

    !

hi laila i know how you feel hun my weight loss has been really slow the last few months and ive stayed the same,my eating differs on different days lol sometimes i can eat quite a bit and other days everything come back up so im gonna try shakes and Soups and see if that helps because the last time i had a fill he told me i dont need anymore as 2ml was comming back out the needle lol,so i will just have to do a bit more exercise and try and get some bit of food in me lol hope your next fill helps hun let us know how you get on xx

  11. Hi Blondynurse,

I had to go down to Dublin last month for my first fill, the next fill in Belfast is 13th October and I hope to get my second fill then. Just to let you know they are now coming to Dublin every fortnight.

Hope the second fill makes more of an impact than the first I'm constantly hungry this week :(

    Elaine

  13. Urgent De-fill Required in Dublin

    Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help, I am urgently in need of a defill, can barely eat at the moment. I had my band fitted by ACS four years ago and we all know how that turned out. Anyway I have been getting my fills abroad since all that fiasco (the last one was in mid May). However over the last couple of weeks my band has become too tight and I can barely eat anything. I have an appointment with WLS for a defill who are over in Dublin in the middle of July but I don't think I can wait that long. Just realised that my passport is out of date since the end of May 2011, Does anyone know if the Blackrock Clinic or the place in Loughlinstown would do defills? I would rather starve than go near the Hospital Group after the way they treated myself and all the other ACS Bandsters but if there is anywhere else that could do it in the next day or two, I would really appreciate any information.

    Thanking you all in advance.

    Regards

    Candp

hi candp ecfs which is dr chris de bruyne team are over in dublin on the 7th july or if you cant wait that long phone julie the fill receptionist on 07872963503 and she will tell you were there is an emergency de fill good luck hun

  14. Oh I just read about someone getting a defill for going away.........I didnt realise this was necessary :o I am going to chicago next weekend do you think I will be ok? Its only Friday to Sunday so I could live off Soups but im worried now. Having horrible visions of being on the plane :( x

jo jo hope your ok let us know how you got on and claire fab your almost at goal congrat hun you deserve it xx and charlene dont worry you should be ok but as claire said if you worried chat to freddy lol hope you have a good time xx

  15. Hi hunnybe,

Thanks for the reply. I can breath a sigh of relief.

After 2 days on Cambridge I felt so rough and I was being a total b*tch, so ended up pretty much running to the chip shop.

The moment I put my fork down, shear horror struck. If I cant manage 2 weeks pre op, how am I going to cope after?

I'm just going to relax and enjoy my self, and then start a new chapter in my life and not worry, just stick to good band foods, but have the odd treat and that will hopefully stop me feeling deprived then I won't binge.

Can you tell me how much fills are because I've seen people say they are charged anything from £70-100 unless some people were meaning euro as I know there are some people from Ireland on here.

    Thanks very much

    Jo x

hi hunnybee and jo jo yes he will charge for an unfill the same price as a fill,i live in northern ireland and they charge £90 here for a fill and unfill, might be bit more or less around the country though xx

  16. Thank you ever so much slinky, you really have put my mind at ease :D

Do you have any suggestions about anything else i might need to know?

Are there and Vitamins or Protein you recommend?

You must be doing something right, your doing fabulously! xx

lol i dont really take vitamins i do take spa tone in pure orange for Iron as im always lacking it lol,i just have a little of everything depending on how tight my band is as it varies day to day lol, dont take too much with you to hospital as you wont need it hun the clothes i wore going in i wore the same ones comming out,ps make sure they are elasticated and a large t shirt as you swell a bit lol,and truse me you wont want to eat after surgery, the same day it is pretty painfull but the next day is really quite manageble as i was on my own and managed fine, just take some slim fast incase as i found it hard to find as i just wanted to make sure i had somthing in me lol xx

  17. Hello everyone!

I'm off to Belgium on Monday, so excited!

Just wondering what you did in terms of pre op diet?

In the information received from Freddy it just says to not eat fatty food for 2 weeks before surgery.

On some other forums i see most people have to follow strict liver shrinking diets such as milk and yogurt diet.

I thought I would give slim fast a go but have only managed to stick to it for one day so far :(

Now I'm actually starting to panic that they might not be able to do it, or worse, i might not be able to stick to the rules after.

I really need to get my head round this and quick.

I'm pretty sure its my husband doing the corrupting, I seem to cope quite well but then I get those sweet words whispered in my ear.... Chinese/ kebab/ pizza and its like I'm possessed, the thoughts go round and round in my head and I cant stop thinking about food and end up giving in.

I'm not sure if its the thought that I'm not going to be able to have it after surgery. I know i will be able to now and then, but just in smaller quantities.

So today I'm starting Cambridge diet in a last ditch attempt to do some good before the op.

One other problem I'm facing, Ive got a wedding to go to on sat, I'm supposed to be going to a buffet ( all you can eat) breakfast in the morning with hubby and the groom, then a 3 course meal after the wedding with champers, Ive got prawn cocktail for starter then hog roast followed by strawberries and cream. Then in the evening there is a finger buffet  I'm trying to come up with an excuse not to go for breakfast and I can avoid the buffet like the plague at night but I'm not sure about the lunch, I know they have spent ever such a lot of money per head and I would feel awful not eating it. If I have a little pick at each course and try and sneek some on hubby's plate, will it do much damage to the liver shrinkage? Ive heard that Freddy advises you to relax and go out for a meal the night you get to Belgium so surly they cant be that worried...right?

hi jo jo dont worry too much hun i was on holidays 2 weeks before my op and tried to diet but had to live off mcdonalds and pizzz hut as i didnt like any of the food lol and they done me so dont worry just enjoy yourself at wedding and freddy does tell you to eat all the night before, dont beat yourself up about it just eat low fat food until you go and have a blow out at wedding you will be fine,i took milk thistle tablets which help to cleanse your liver you could try them for a week if you want xx
