  1. Please help? Where have people had their ports fitted? Did he ask where you'd prefer it? I'm worried he'll put it on my right side cause I can't sleep on my left or my back so if really struggle to sleep until its completely healed and then struggle again when I have a fill! I will ask when I get there but I'm just worrying now. I get a lot of back and left hip pain, not just being fussy :)

hun i think he puts them all on the left side, but you couldemail him and he will tell you and that will ease your mind,he take a bit of time to get back to you but he will, send him a couple of emails,or go and visit them and have a chat when they are in your area, were you from

  2. Hi all I'm new here posted a thread but think I put it in the wrong place..oops I just found this thread.. I am booked to have the band done by dr chris in Belgium I live in the uk so I will travel by Eurostar . I'm travelling alone and really nervous any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks..my surgery date is 20/11/12.

dont worry hun i got mine done alone, you will meet plenty of peeps to talk to,just travel light so you dont have too much weight wnen you have had your surgery

  3. advice please:

I am booked for an xray and to see dr chris on 11 october, but in total the whole day will cost me £200. I am struggling for money. I have been told by my GP I have a Vitamin deficiency of folic acid and I am on medication for it.

Do you think I am better off going on the 11 October or waiting til January. something tells me i should go but it is just the money problem. I can get the money but I would struggle.

sorry if this sounds complicated, any advice would be great. thanks

hi hun are you going over to belgium or having it all done in uk ?,i know how you feel hun i got banded in 2010 and ive never had an x ray,i just thought if all is ok leavi it alone,i would go if i were having any probs but its up to you hun and how you feel,if you really want it checked then you will be better getting it done,i know of quite a few peeps who havnt had an xray and they are all fine though, decisions, decisions, hth xx

  4. Well thats the first time a woman has ever apologised to me for not being a man ha ha . things are looking up already woohoo

I have had a look at your weight loss and it looks impresive 66lb right?. Did you go to Belgium to Dr Chris de Brueyne?

I notice that he is one of the cheapest around and am a bit aprehensive about that. I had a consultation with the hospital group in Dublin and just didnt like them.

and im a bit concerned by your name HAZARD ha ha lol,you sound like your gonna be trouble,oh well bring it on,joking by the way,yes i was banded by dr chris,he isnt shady or anything, you get excellent care for half the price at the time i paid 3500 in pound for mine and im really pleased are you from dublin hun ? by the way i read your profile and at your weight of 133 pounds you prob wont get a band he he he,any question just ask hun

    • Hi everyone,
    • Are there any men on the site? I'm considering this proceedure strongly and would like to get a mans perspective. I like my food and wine and beer and am worried I'll go mad without them.
    • La

hi hazard im sorry im not a bloke but hopefully one of them will come on and talk but you can still have all of them things in moderation hun,its not the end of things as we know it lol xx

  5. Hi everyone, hope you are all ok, everyone has been so quiet lately.

Was just wondering if anyone help me out, is it right that you can not get a fill after 12 months post op untill you have an x-ray?

I really need a fill but cant really afford to have both done at the moment.

hi jo they do like you to have a x ray,but i never had one and im banded in 2010 and still getting fills hun

  7. Hi everyone :).

Just wanted to introduce myself - feel like I already know you all after reading about 200 pages of this thread!

I'm Natalie and I'm 22. I have been in touch with Frederik about going ahead with the surgery! Was originally looking at sleeve plication but having done more research I think I will be more successful with a band - think being able to adjust it will be a really useful tool. Frederik originally gave me some dates in June but my partner has an important exam at the end of the month so wouldn't be able to come with me so I'm just waiting for him to give me some July dates now.

I'm so impatient for it now though! I can't wait to be confident and happy and do all the things I used to again. And you guys are such an inspiration! Hurry up and email me back Frederik!! :P

hi natalie and good luck on your band journey, freddy will soon be in touch with another date dont worry hun you will get a date in july it's so exciting isnt it lol,be careful not to overeat while your waiting thats what i done lol and put on another 2 stone while waiting to get band he he

  8. That my first week over, got on the scales this morning & ive lost 16pound, I'm delighted. Starting to feel hungry now :-( is this normal after a week, the liquids aren't to bad, just getting a bit tired of Soups now, quick question how much shud I be eating at this stage, I'm only managing Water, yogurts n Soup, would love a different texture im living for the mushy stage haha!!!

if my memory serves me well i think i was eating the same as you hun,so just hold out for a wee bit longer lol,but yes you start to feel hungry again as your band is empty on your first fill you will get i think its 3ml,then the second you get about 2.5 and i personally think anythink after these two fills your band really starts to work but good luck hun xx

  9. Hi Everyone,

Im just wondering had anyone had any problems with a port/ tubing leak with Dr. Chris? I had a leak in August 2011 and have just found out i might have one again :( Im devastated and furious and just keep asking, why me?

I got my band on 29th June 2010 and had a rocky start. they couldnt find my port to fill it and i ended up going over to brussels in November 2010 to Dr chris. he was able to fill it but told me my port was loose and hanging off. I was terrified but he assured me it would be fine and i could still get fills and loose weight, but i would eventually need a revision surgery.

In April 2011 i achieved perfect restricition and was loosing weight steadily, by May i got down to 17 stone and was feeling amazing. In july i noticed my restriction had decreased so i booked another fill to top it up. three days after the fill i realised something was wrong, i couldnt feel my band restricting me anymore. It was empty.

Frederik arranged for me to go back to belgium for a revision and ECFS paid for everything except my fiance's flight. The operation wasnt as painful as the first but i still had to take two weeks to recover.

Since that operation i have not felt restriction once. After my last fill in April i had enough, i decided to fly over to dr chris in brussels and get checked because ecfs were telling me i had 7.75 lks in my band but i felt nothing. I know what restriction feels like so i was worried that the band had slipped or something.

dr chris pulled out the contents of the band and surprise surprise there was barely anything in the thing. So he tells me its possible there is another leak. He advised me to contact frederik and arrange further action.

I am sick and tired of these problems when everyone else i know has had none! Has anyone had an experience like this? Am i just unlucky? I'm considering having it removed at this point.

    Amanda

poor you amanda i havnt heard of anyone having so many problems i have heard of a leak or a port problem which has been sorted out by the team, but i understand that your feeling why me so would i hunny i hate surgery, could you not ask them to do a sleeve by pass at this point if they are having problems with the band i dont know if you would wnat that or not im just thinking if it was me,becaus i would hate all the messing about when you just want to loose weight or ask them what they think should be done at this stage i hope you get somthing sorted hun keep us posted xx

  12. Hay guys!!! Need a few tips I'm flying out Monday eeekkkk! Can any body give me quick run thru what il need for the hospital n the next day etc!! Thanks folks really appreciate it!

hi mini me firstly dont forget your pasport or they wont do it hun you need it for id,i just went in loose clothing jogging bottoms and a baggy t shirt as you bloat and a pair of crocs, for the hospital i just had a wee bag with toiletries and a hand towel, thats all you need hun because your out of it most of the day after op,well i was and the next morning i just put back on the clothes i went in,because you wear one of their gowns for surgery so no need for pjs,and the next day back at the hotel i just drank Water and took pain killers which they give you take a mug because the ones in the hotel arnt any good, and you could take a couple of milkshakes incase you get hungry but you wont lol and maybe some windeeze incase you get trapped wind i never but some peeps did good luck hun any more questions just ask

  13. Ohhh, where do I start....

I am really really peed off with myself! I have some restriction, but I am creeping back into old eating habits, chocolate and crisps seem to go down too easily, so this is all I seem to live on, that with a fish pie most nights. But then some days, I am able to eat a sandwich and crisps for lunch? ?!!

I am really dissapointed in myself :( I stopped losing weight before christmas, and have actually managed to put a couple of lbs on too.

I had my xray done, and the radiogropher said it all looked good, and that it looked like i shouldnt have any more fills. I havent been to see Dr Chris yet with the copy of the xray, as I havent had the time or money:(

I am hoping to go in a few weeks, and get a small fill to hopefully give me a kick up the bum and get this weight shifted, i only want to lose another 28 lb, and I want it gone before summer. This journey has taken me a lot loner than i imagined, the girl i was in hosptal with has already got to target weight before christmas and looks great, we were the same weight when we started :(

    Sorry for moaning.

well done big daddy, the support is brilliant and dosnt it eel good to see the weight comming off, well done hun,and nat dont worry too much everyone is different i have lost the same amount of weight as you and i was banded in july 2010 slow and steady is good,i know with myself it can sometimes take 6 weeks before i see even a couple of pound if im lucky but i go up and down all the time,im not that worried i just feel better at the size i am now instead of nearly 17 stone lol,im planning off having a 1ml defill so i can eat more as somedays i can only eat chocolate as that is all that will go down so i eat it just for some energy, and ive started taking Vitamin b and spa tone lol hope it will help with energy and hair lol

  14. Thanks for the reply, just trying to get every thing ready, I be flying out tomorrow week! Eek!!! Nerves n excitement all together!!! How has your journey been so far! I'm getting married next sept 2013 so I'm hoping to have shed most of my weight!!! Gym membership bought & already eyeing up new clothes! :-) Just hope I'm not living in a dream world!!!!

good luck or next week mini and dont worry your not living in a dream world it worked for all of us hun xx
