    Well Day 3...

kmw4799: I have a desk job but I am around some heavy eaters that while I was on the all liquid diet for pre-op they were constantly going out to eat and trying to get me to eithe go with them or order something. It was cruel so I decided I am taking off as much as I can so I can adapt to the band. I was also told I can't drive for 5 days. It was just 3 days but they changed it I think because the found a hiatal hernia and repaired it while they were in there. JoeyBee: I haven't been nauseated or gotten sick. It just sits there in my chest like its blocking it. I keep sipping Vitamin Water Zero to keep hydrated. I have found a warm liquid will help pass it through. The key is sipping it. you really shouldn't be frothing on day 3. You may want to contact your doctor. Your band may be too tight. Did they put a fill in it while they put it in? Some doctors do. I made campbells extra noodle soup, its in a red box. I made with the noodles and then strained them out. The broth is decent. My surgical sites are a little swollen too. They put my port right on the line where my waistband goes and then they tell me not to let my waistband rub it. HELLO???you put it on my waist so now I hike all garments nearly to my armpits to keep them from sitting on top of the port site. It will pass but I would definitely call the doctor if you vomitting and frothing. you don't want the band to slip while its stilll healing.
  2. I have been wondering the same thing about coughing. I have had sinus drainage since the day I had surgery which was just Wednesday the 12th. They told me to cough to clear my lungs to prevent pneumonia but I am afriad to cough.

    Day 2

I feel bloated when I eat too much broth or water. I am took off until Thursday and I was banded Wednesday. My doc told me I couldn't drive for 5 days but all the paperwork I got up until them said 3 days. They found a hernia and repaired it so that may be why.

26 Pre-op!!...getting nervous and mind is wondering...

I was banded Wednesday. I was scared and nervous and had second thoughts right up until the day before surgery. I think you can still party just limit your drinks or have something non alcoholic. Congrats on stopping smoking. That is great. Smoking would prevent you from healing as quickly. I quit soft drinks and caffeine about 3 months ago. I only drink Vitamin Water Zero. You will only be as successful as you want to be. Remember this is just a tool. I have friends who had it and they "cheat" and have only lost 10 lbs in 4 months. Keep blogging on here and find some new friends that will walk through this with you! I am here if you need any encouragement or help.

    Happy Band day to Me!!

I get up and take a short walk every 30 minutes. If I don't I get really stiff on the side where my port and hernia repair are. When its too much I sit back down.

    Happy Band day to Me!!

I was banded this morning. So far so good. I am sore and my shoulder/back hurts a little. They found a hiatal hernia and repaired it while they were in there. The doctor said my liver looked good. Weird thing is they sent home before/after pictures of my hernia repair. My throat is REALLY sore and I am very thirsty. I recommend walking around or just get up and move around every hour. It really helps. I also have a heating pad for my back/shoulder. I have an ice pack for my stomach. It is sore where the hernia was repaired. I have a Q-ball that delivers continuous pain meds to my port site for two days and a nausea patch. Deep breaths are hard but I force it and coughing which hurts my stomach a little. All in all, I feel okay considering. Can't wait to see what each day brings.
  9. I actually gained a few pounds on surgery day. I think it was the swelling in my legs. I too have had the phlegm coming up. It feels like it is sitting on my chest like it won't slide through so I end up coughing it up. I hate to cough I am afraid it will cause the band to slip. I just had some chicken broth. 5 soup spoons is all I could take and I felt stuffed. Try a heating pad for you back and shoulder. I did and I have felt great. I haven't gotten diarhea but I feel like I have to go and its just gas. I am sipping Vitamin Water Zero. I know I am getting dehydrated so I am trying to get it down but sometimes the water just sits there. Everytime I take a drink I burp too but I keep doing it. It seems like we are having some of the same issues. Every doc must be different because some didn't have a pre-op diet and others have a real strict after surgery diet. Please keep in touch. I would like to know how you are doing.
  10. Waiting is the hardest part. Too much time and you get all sorts of crazy thoughts in your head.

    Looking for May Bandsters

I was banded Wednesday the 12th. I feel pretty good today. The only pain is my port site and just above it I had hernia repair. I was scared but it was for nothing. I know that now. It is not bad at all. I only had a little shoulder/back pain the 1st day. Walking and a heating pad did wonders for me. I was able to go to my daughters 1st dance recital on Thursday, just the day after surgery. Just remember, everyone is different. We all have described our experiences yet these are only possiblities. My doctor also advised against comparing weight loss with others. We are all different and if you compare you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Oh and I gained 3 lbs after surgery due to swelling. That too shall pass.
  13. I was just banded Wednesday and let me tell you, the weekend and few days leading up to the surgery was emotional for me. I was scared, I was crying. That is all normal, really. I think the band is going to be the best thing I ever did. I just have to work with it not against it. The surgery is over and I really don't feel bad. I had some shoulder/back pain but not a lot and walking and using a heating pad on my back did wonders. The port site is the worst part of it. I had a hernia repair and it was right above my port site. I think that hurts worse than the port. I am sore and tender there. It's all about following the eating guidelines to be successful. I know someone who had it but she does not following the eating guidelines and her band has slipped twice. She has only lost 10 lbs in 4 months. It's a tool and you can use it or abuse it.
  14. I am starting full liquids today. I was banded Wednesday. I drank just a few ounces this morning and my stomach is bubbling and I feel hunger. Thin Soup for lunch. I can't wait.
  15. I took out the Q-ball today. That was weird pulling that catheter out of my stomach. It didn't hurt at all. I had hunger pains this morning. I had a couple of ounces of Protein drink and my stomach was bubbling. I gave up soft drinks and caffeine a few months ago so no headache for me. The port site is still really sore this morning but only when I get up out of a seat. The more I move around the pain subsides. It's like it is stiff there. They put it right where my waistband is then I get instructions to not have my waistband on the site. ummm...then don't put the port at my waistband!! I have to be "steve urkel" and pull my pants and undergarments up to my armpits to keep it off my incisions. Craziness!!
  16. Congrats! I was banded yesterday. I had to be there at 5:30 am and on my way home by 10:30. I am not too bad this morning. I am only drinking Clear liquids and taking small amounts. I had a popsicle because my throat was really sore and I felt stuffed after eating it. I guess that is telling too much. It was single ice pop.
  17. I was banded yesterday. So far so good. I had a little back/shoulder pain but my heating pad seems to have taken care of that. I HIGHLY recommend it and getting up and walking around. My port site is sore today and yesterday it wasn't so whatever meds I had left in my system is now gone. I just took adult liquid tylenol this morning and feel fine. It was a quick procedure and I was headed home by 10:30 am. Any questions, feel free to ask me. I am an open book.

    Tomorrow is my day

I both excited and nervous. My mind is racing right now. I have got so much to do yet I don't know where to start. What shall I do first? I have to be at the hospital to check in at 5:30 am. Dang that is early!! My surgery is at 7:30. My hubby is staying home with me tomorrow and Thursday and then I am on my own during the day. I am so glad I took off work until the 20th. Now I am wondering what I am going to do about sleeping. My bed sits very very high. I literally have to climb up to get in it and I am 5'6". I guess I can sleep in the reclining seat on the couch if I am too sore to make the trek into my high rise bed. Now back to my nervousness...I am getting jittery. I have a lot of nervous energy right now but all I can do is worry about tomorrow. Deep down I know it will all be okay but part of me is still really really scared.
  20. My surgery day is tomorrow and I have butterflies in my stomach really bad. I keep pacing. I am home alone today which is probably not a good thing. Being on all liquids makes leaving to shop a little difficult if a ladies room is not nearby if you know what I mean. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning. I doubt I will sleep at all tonight.

    Struggling with pre-op diet

I am really struggling with the all liquid diet. I only have to be on it a week but I am sooo hungry. I have had to eat something. It's smalll but it helps. I am having really bad headaches where everything is blurry so I ate a small sandwich. Being diabetic I think has something to do with it. I may just have to eat a little something every day. After I ate my headache went away. I don't know what to do. I guess I need to call the dr office tomorrow and see if it would be okay.
