  1. Ok, so, I'm 6 weeks today. I was prepared for the dreaded 3 week stall, so when I didn't lose week in week 3, I was ok. then it went on...and on... Now, 6 weeks out and I've only lost weight in the first 2 weeks post op. I lost 16 pounds in those two weeks, but COME ON! My clothes are looser, however what's going on? I know our bodies freak out because we're in starvation mode, but it's got to let go of some of this sooner or later! I'm following all the rules: Water, Protein, eat slowly, Protein first, low carbs etc. Also, I walk every day. Has anyone gone through this and any good suggestions? Thanks!

  2. I got my date this week and it's coming so fast! I have so many emotions going on, I don't really know how to react. My surgery obviously has been submitted to my insurance (Cigna) and I'm terrified I'll be getting bad news. I lucked out and I don't need to do a pre-op diet but I was instructed to continue trying to lose weight. Is there any other sleevers close to my surgery date?

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel!! My date is 19th!! I had been researching this and wanting it for 5 years! Now that I have my date, I'm panicking!! I'm not afraid of the surgery, as I had a previous lap band. I know what I'm getting into. I'm worried about failing! It's a confidence thing, ya know? But each time I watch a youtube video, or read a story, I think, YES!!! I can DO this!! Crazy, right? I'm on a liver reducing diet. Day 3. pretty slim pickings. It's really good to do a liver reducing diet, as they have to push your liver out of the way to do the surgery. Just stick to your reducing diet. Cut out as much fat and sugar as possible and limit your carbs. I get to have 3 fruits a day, unlimited salad and veg. Only 2 oz Protein at lunch and dinner. You'll do great! If you're on Facebook, let me know, I have started a private page! keep in touch!! Tracy

  3. It's been awhile now since I have posted any progress. The first 3 are at my heaviest weight and the last was taken today!!! Down 105 total from HW and 82 from surgery 9/3/15.

YOU look absolutely amazing! Any last minute words of wisdom for those of us getting sleeved this month? Any regrets?

  4. I work for a hospital and got nervous before my surgery as well. Talked to the counselor at the hospital the day before and she reminded me that I didn't have to have the surgery, it is my choice. We see people that come into the hospital and are rushed into the OR. She reminded me I WAS IN CONTROL. Yes I was. That calmed me. I have lost 28 lbs since 1/2/16 before the preop diet and 18lbs since surgery on 1/14/16. You will have rough days but it is so worth it. I had the sleeve and my hiatal hernia repaired. I wish I would have been a little more prepared for what to expect for the hernia repair. Live and learn. Breathe and enjoy the ride. It will be worth it!

Hi there, Firstly, Congrats on your surgery!! So pleased for you!! How do you feel emotionally now? It's good to talk about the emotions. They are so important.

I am scheduled for the sleeve on the 19th Feb! I also am having a hiatal hernia repaired. Can you tell me what you meant for the the hernia repair? I hadn't heard that it caused too much of an issue... I'm a nurse, so give it to me straight! ha ha!! Look forward to hearing from you! Tracy

  5. Hello. My date of my VSG is February 22nd. I am starting to freak out. I had my endoscopy last week and have my pre-op testing Monday. I don't know why I am suddenly so scared. Almost thinking of cancelling. I won't but I don't know what has come over me lately. What if I hate my new lifestyle? Any idea what the recovery pain is like? I am also sad to leave my toddler at home for a few days while I am in the hospital. I just want to relax a little lol. Wishing I Could calm down. Send me some positive thoughts.

Hi Licia! I understand how you are feeling 100%. I have been researching this surgery for 5 years. I am a previous lap bander (I HATED the band) which I had removed in June of 2012. My date for the sleeve is Feb 19th. I've been so excited for this for 5 years! Now that I have my date, I'm a WRECK! I'm not worried about the surgery, (I've had tons, and I'm a nurse) I think it's the thought of it not working, or not being able to make the lifestyle changes needed. But then I watch youtube videos and see the huge life transformations, and I get that excited feelings again. Keep your thoughts on the reasons we're doing this. I have a horrible family history of relatives dying early from heart disease. I'm having this surgery because I want to live a long and healthy life! WE can do this. It's a commitment. It's a tool to help us. The outcomes out weight any negatives by far! I give myself this pep talk every day. I also read some place to write down 10 goals you want to achieve with the surgery. Think of the positives! WE can do this! stay in touch!!

  6. Thanks everyone! Surgery went well. He also fixed a hiatal hernia I didn't know I had. He said it wasn't bad tho just needed tightened. Very little pain, never used pain killers at all. They did have me on liquid Tylenol every 8 hours. Was up doing my first walk 4 hours after I got to my room. Never had gas pain in the shoulder, my surgeon doesn't leave the air in. I was peeing like a champ. No nausea. It was so not what I thought it could be! My hard part is getting down 60 ozs of liquids each day. Belly starts feeling bloated. Hope you that are to have your surgery yet, I pray it goes as well as mine! Hugs to everyone for being my support!

Hi There! My name is Tracy and my date is the 19th Feb! So excited! It's wonderful to hear a great story like yours! We all need to go into surgery with positive thoughts in mind! Very happy for you! I've had a band before so I know what abdominal surgery is like! Keep us posted on your progress!!!

Hey there Eagergirl! I just got my date! I'm Feb 19th too! We wait so long to have a date... and now that I have it, I FREAKING OUT! How are YOU feeling? I go between super excited, and then nervous kicks in! I was a previous bander, so I know what I'm getting myself into! The support is really important! Hoping to find a few buddys!

Best of luck! Keep in touch!

    Tracy

Please join in! Best of luck!!

I'm getting my sleeve on 19th February! This too is MY second shot. I had a lap band removed in 2012, so I know how you feel! Best of luck!!!

  10. Hi I had mine done at the Spire Manchester hospital, after attending the 2 year weight loss plan my doctors would not allow me to go through the procedure on the NHS due to my age which was 24 at the time even though I had gone through 2 years on the management course plus another 2 years worth of councelling and maintenance all of which was a complete waste of time as if I had known I would of have to gone privately I would have done years ago.

Hi there! Just wondering who your Doctor was. I'm looking for anyone that's had Dr. Basil Ammori. My surgery date is early January. Many thanks and your post was a fantastic read!!

  11. Hi @@Tracytma well I'm not going to lie, for me it has been absolutely, 100% worth it!

I'm a band to sleeve revision patient due to the band failing. I was banded in 2010, had it removed in August 2014. I was revised 12 months ago and i have not ever regretted that i made this decision. I have lost 154lbs in 12 months and I'm still losing .

I have had a few challenges in the first 6 months, i could not eat meat or dairy and i developed GERD. At the 7 month point i was able to meat and dairy and now i can safely say that at 12 months my GERD is all but gone ( once in a very odd blue moon do i have to take meds for it). I have lymphoedema on both lower limbs and that is almost gone.

    Life is good!!

I wish you all the very best in your weight loss journey xox.

Hi VSG mary. I'm very interested in your GERD. I currently have Gerd, and I am on Nexium and it's well controlled. My doctor was trying to get me to do bypass (NOT an option) because of my Gerd. Did you have it previously and was it controlled with medication when you did have it? I'm interested in how many people had it really badly. Gosh, I don't want GERD to be the reason I can't have surgery!!!!!!

  12. I can totally relate to you. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking to have surgery in January. Have you stated anything as far as the pre op stuff?

Hi @Tweety40. Well, I think I am going to move my surgery date from Dec 4th to January, like yourself. I have a few issues that are sort of in my way. #1 I am living in Northern Ireland and have to fly to England to have the surgery, therefore all my pre ops will be the day before my surgery. I'm having a few things done by my doctor locally, to insure I'm ok for surgery. I'm a little worried about flying a few days post op, but everyone says it's fine. It's only an hour flight. #2 my family/friends that know about the surgery are wanting me to change from December to January. The reason isn't only Holiday eating, which frankly, I don't care about, but I have several obligations at work, like big parties I have to organize and be present at. I'm not sure i'll be fit to be there 2 weeks post op. Then one week later is Christmas. Plus, it's just a really busy time and I want my post op period to be calm and relaxing. So even though it pushes me out 4 or 5 more weeks, I figure the sleeve is for life, I can wait a little bit to have a successful first few weeks. Tell me about yourself. Did you have a previous Band?

  13. Fantastic replies!!!! Thanks so much everyone!!! I've been trying to see if anyone regretted the sleeve... so far, I haven't been able to find too many! That speak volumes!! Now that my band is out, I can say how much I hated the idea of the device inside me... causing scar tissue and the thought of slippage was horrifying to me. I think I was so desperate to have anything to help me, I didn't really pay attention to the face that this devise would be inside of me, with the chance of it causing a real medical emergency if it slipped a lot! And I'm a nurse!! Oh well, chalk it up to how we all feel at one time. WE WANT help! Something to help us lose weight. I would have had the sleeve, but it wasn't available or approved by my insurance at the time. So here I gooooo!!!! :) Keep up the good work everyone! Keep posting, it helps us all! xx

  14. Hi ladies! Thrilled to find some UK sleevers here! I'm scheduled for 4th December and would love to get to know you and hear about your experiences! Support is SO important! I sent inkie my info for her Facebook page! Great idea. I had a previous Gastric band (removed prior to moving to N. Ireland in July 2012 from New Hampshire, USA). So I'm starting over, which is a bit of an ego blow, but I'm up for the challenge. I wished I had the option of the sleeve when I choose the Band. It wasn't available in 2010 at my surgeon's, and in America we had to go to the doctor that your insurance said. So I tried the band, but it wasn't for me. At all. Anyway, Here I am and I'm ready to be successful with the sleeve! So let's support each other on this journey!!!! xx

  15. Thanks emalou47 for that. I feel that if i can cope without the morphine i will try, and maybe ask for a different type of pain relief, however who knows, i may be begging for the stuff after an hour or 2 post op. But yes i agree, take it slow and dont try to rush my recovery period. It's just as i am having my surgery abroad i am only booked in hospital 2 nights and then a hotel for 2 nights which is just across the road from the hospital, i feel that i will be pressured to get up and ready for the trip back home. Defo not looking forward to throwing up blood, but better out than in i suppose. Oh the joy's i have to look forward to. Lol. But i know it is well worth going through to be healthy and happy and up for anything mommy to my 2 yr old daughter. Cnt wait for the transition to begin. Bring it on!!!

Sugarbabe! It's great to read your story. I live in Northern Ireland and I'm flying to Manchester to have surgery in December at BMI Alexander Hospital. I wondered what it was like flying home? I too will stay 2 days in the hospital and probably 2 nights in a hotel. Can you share your experience? Thanks!!
