  1. Ok, so, I'm 6 weeks today. I was prepared for the dreaded 3 week stall, so when I didn't lose week in week 3, I was ok. then it went on...and on... Now, 6 weeks out and I've only lost weight in the first 2 weeks post op. I lost 16 pounds in those two weeks, but COME ON! My clothes are looser, however what's going on? I know our bodies freak out because we're in starvation mode, but it's got to let go of some of this sooner or later! I'm following all the rules: Water, Protein, eat slowly, protein first, low carbs etc. Also, I walk every day. Has anyone gone through this and any good suggestions? Thanks!

    February 18th surgery!

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel!! My date is 19th!! I had been researching this and wanting it for 5 years! Now that I have my date, I'm panicking!! I'm not afraid of the surgery, as I had a previous lap band. I know what I'm getting into. I'm worried about failing! It's a confidence thing, ya know? But each time I watch a youtube video, or read a story, I think, YES!!! I can DO this!! Crazy, right? I'm on a liver reducing diet. Day 3. pretty slim pickings. It's really good to do a liver reducing diet, as they have to push your liver out of the way to do the surgery. Just stick to your reducing diet. Cut out as much fat and sugar as possible and limit your carbs. I get to have 3 fruits a day, unlimited salad and veg. Only 2 oz Protein at lunch and dinner. You'll do great! If you're on facebook, let me know, I have started a private page! keep in touch!! Tracy

    Before and After Pics

YOU look absolutely amazing! Any last minute words of wisdom for those of us getting sleeved this month? Any regrets?
  4. Hi there, Firstly, Congrats on your surgery!! So pleased for you!! How do you feel emotionally now? It's good to talk about the emotions. They are so important. I am scheduled for the sleeve on the 19th Feb! I also am having a hiatal hernia repaired. Can you tell me what you meant for the the hernia repair? I hadn't heard that it caused too much of an issue... I'm a nurse, so give it to me straight! ha ha!! Look forward to hearing from you! Tracy
  5. Hi Licia! I understand how you are feeling 100%. I have been researching this surgery for 5 years. I am a previous lap bander (I HATED the band) which I had removed in June of 2012. My date for the sleeve is Feb 19th. I've been so excited for this for 5 years! Now that I have my date, I'm a WRECK! I'm not worried about the surgery, (I've had tons, and I'm a nurse) I think it's the thought of it not working, or not being able to make the lifestyle changes needed. But then I watch youtube videos and see the huge life transformations, and I get that excited feelings again. Keep your thoughts on the reasons we're doing this. I have a horrible family history of relatives dying early from heart disease. I'm having this surgery because I want to live a long and healthy life! WE can do this. It's a commitment. It's a tool to help us. The outcomes out weight any negatives by far! I give myself this pep talk every day. I also read some place to write down 10 goals you want to achieve with the surgery. Think of the positives! WE can do this! stay in touch!!
  6. Hi There! My name is Tracy and my date is the 19th Feb! So excited! It's wonderful to hear a great story like yours! We all need to go into surgery with positive thoughts in mind! Very happy for you! I've had a band before so I know what abdominal surgery is like! Keep us posted on your progress!!!

Excellent Emalou! I am going to the BMI Alexander Hospital. It's great to hear from someone who has had the same surgeon.
  12. Greetings everyone! So... here I am. I'm 53 years old... 250 pounds and a previous Gastric Bander. I had it in 2009 and removed it in 2012 when I was moving from America to N. Ireland. Present day...I've gained back all the weight and preparing to have a Gastric Sleeve. I'm feeling so desperate!! Thought When I had the band, I'd finally be successful at being thin... but alas... I had so many problems with it, truthfully, I hated it.. but put up with it for 3 years as I didn't want to be a failure. You all know what I mean.. we all have felt like a failure... many times over. I fear failure with the Sleeve again. I've been researching for years. I'd really appreciate any support. Is it all worth it? I'm will to hear the good, the great.... the bad... the ugly. Bring it on. Thanks in advance. I applaud and admire every one of you!!!!
  13. MANY Thanks @@VSGmary! I appreciate your rapid response! I think I will go ahead. I do not mind continuing on my Nexium! All good!
  14. Hi VSG mary. I'm very interested in your GERD. I currently have Gerd, and I am on Nexium and it's well controlled. My doctor was trying to get me to do bypass (NOT an option) because of my Gerd. Did you have it previously and was it controlled with medication when you did have it? I'm interested in how many people had it really badly. Gosh, I don't want GERD to be the reason I can't have surgery!!!!!!
  15. Best of luck to you today!! Please let us know how it went! Super happy for you!!
  16. Hi everyone. I'm living in N. Ireland and flying to Manchester to have surgery with Dr. Basil Ammori at BMI Alexander Hospital. I'm wondering who has flown 4 or 5 days after sleeve surgery? I had a Gastric Band (removed in 2012) and I remember the car ride home! Thanks in advance!
  17. Hello Everyone! Can you tell me how you are getting all your Protein into your diet? I've been told after awhile people don't necessarily just use Protein shakes to get their protein... so tell, me what do you eat to get in you 60-80 a day? Many thanks... trying to get mentally prepped!!!
  18. Hi @Tweety40. Well, I think I am going to move my surgery date from Dec 4th to January, like yourself. I have a few issues that are sort of in my way. #1 I am living in Northern Ireland and have to fly to England to have the surgery, therefore all my pre ops will be the day before my surgery. I'm having a few things done by my doctor locally, to insure I'm ok for surgery. I'm a little worried about flying a few days post op, but everyone says it's fine. It's only an hour flight. #2 my family/friends that know about the surgery are wanting me to change from December to January. The reason isn't only Holiday eating, which frankly, I don't care about, but I have several obligations at work, like big parties I have to organize and be present at. I'm not sure i'll be fit to be there 2 weeks post op. Then one week later is Christmas. Plus, it's just a really busy time and I want my post op period to be calm and relaxing. So even though it pushes me out 4 or 5 more weeks, I figure the sleeve is for life, I can wait a little bit to have a successful first few weeks. Tell me about yourself. Did you have a previous Band?
  19. Fantastic replies!!!! Thanks so much everyone!!! I've been trying to see if anyone regretted the sleeve... so far, I haven't been able to find too many! That speak volumes!! Now that my band is out, I can say how much I hated the idea of the device inside me... causing scar tissue and the thought of slippage was horrifying to me. I think I was so desperate to have anything to help me, I didn't really pay attention to the face that this devise would be inside of me, with the chance of it causing a real medical emergency if it slipped a lot! And I'm a nurse!! Oh well, chalk it up to how we all feel at one time. WE WANT help! Something to help us lose weight. I would have had the sleeve, but it wasn't available or approved by my insurance at the time. So here I gooooo!!!! Keep up the good work everyone! Keep posting, it helps us all! xx
  20. Hi Everyone! I'm tentatively scheduled for 4th of December! I'm excited to find this forum because the people that DO know I'm getting sleeved are saying I should wait until January because of the "holidays!" I'm wondering if they're thinking of ME or everyone else that I cook for etc. It is a busy time, I know, and I do have some obligations... but what are your thoughts?
  21. Hi ladies! Thrilled to find some UK sleevers here! I'm scheduled for 4th December and would love to get to know you and hear about your experiences! Support is SO important! I sent inkie my info for her facebook page! Great idea. I had a previous Gastric band (removed prior to moving to N. Ireland in July 2012 from New Hampshire, USA). So I'm starting over, which is a bit of an ego blow, but I'm up for the challenge. I wished I had the option of the sleeve when I choose the Band. It wasn't available in 2010 at my surgeon's, and in America we had to go to the doctor that your insurance said. So I tried the band, but it wasn't for me. At all. Anyway, Here I am and I'm ready to be successful with the sleeve! So let's support each other on this journey!!!! xx
  22. Hi Chris! I've just seen that you had surgery with the BMI hospital! Been looking for someone that has! I am scheduled for 4th December at BMI Alexander with Dr. Basil Ammori. Is this the same doctor/hospital by any chance? Would love to hear about your experience!
