    Buddy's in Manchester

Sugarbabe! It's great to read your story. I live in Northern Ireland and I'm flying to Manchester to have surgery in December at BMI Alexander Hospital. I wondered what it was like flying home? I too will stay 2 days in the hospital and probably 2 nights in a hotel. Can you share your experience? Thanks!!
  2. Greeting @@VSGmary! I'm thrilled to hear your story!!! WELL DONE YOU! You must be so pleased with your decision! I think I am at that panic phase, when re-researching all the pre-op and post -op diets and thinking...."here I go again!" I have read nearly everything I can get my hands on and I've heard some people can develop intolerance, such as with dairy. That I can live with. I currently suffer from GERD, have for MANY years. I am on Nexium daily, so if I have to stay on that, I'm fine with it. My surgeon did warn me, in some people it gets worse, in most people, with weight loss it gets better. Thank you so much for your post! Keep up the good work. xx
  3. This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I had a lap band previously, but had it removed in 2012. I have decided to have a sleeve and I'm trying to pick a date to have it. The people that know, are trying to say... wait till after Christmas... wait till after this or that... but I'm like.... NO! This is going to be my life. shouldn't I just do it asap? I'm will to not have Christmas dinner to start my new life. People who aren't obese, don't realize, or can't realize why we are choosing this option. Would you have done it 4 weeks before Christmas? Or would you have waited. Thanks for your great post! Congratulations!!!! 50 pounds is FANTASTIC!!

    Reflux sucks

I have a question. Did you have Gerd before your band? I've had gerd for as long as I can remember. It did not get any worse when I had my band. I've had my band removed, and I'm now getting a Sleeve in December. I'm trying to gather all the information I can. Many thanks in Advance.

    unfill before vacation

I have to agree with the people who said "don't unfill." I HAD to unfil before a major back operation.... so I was completely empty for months... and I DID gain weight... 6 pounds, event though I "thought" I was being good and not eating much... the weight came back SO quickly and it's harder coming off! It is very hard for a weight loss surgery person to GAIN!!! Believe me... it is SO easy to fall back into old habits! don't do it, listen to what everyone else has said...it's a lifestyle change. Enjoy some nice rich things, but keep it small!! Now, traveling out of the country, I think is a different story, i woudln't travel with FULL restriction. Having an emergency and being in say Italy or Greece and not knowing if they could handle your issue would be scarey. ! Good luck and ENJOY VACATION!!!!
  6. I've been gone for about 6 months and I come back.... and Junebugs is gone!!! wehre is everyone??? HOW is everyone. I had major back surger 12/10/10 and lost my way due to being completely unfilled for 4 months... but I'm back and I am RESTRICTED!! Ha ha... loving it! No complaints here!!!

  7. I would call your PCP (primary care physcian) and get in to be seen. Low grade fever means infection... if you say you have fluid in your lungs, that left unattended could lead to a small pneumonia. I found going back to work at one week too hard, and ended up getting sick myself. Take it easy. this is a life changing surgery, simple as it is, but we need to listen to our bodies! Call your doctor and please be evaluated!!! Best of luck!

    Anyone got new photo`s..??

Hey Marion...thought I'd look you up on your thread here.. You are looking GREAT my friend!! I need to take some photos and perhaps tomorrow I'll get a chance. Giving my daughter a high school graduation party. I've lost 12.8 kg... I converted it for you... 28 pounds since I started the pre op diet June 1st. It's all slowed down a bit. I'm going to join a gym this week, now that I'm fully recovered from this and that! I'm feeling SOOO much better! Keep up the good work and keep posting those photos!! Hope you are having a great weekend! Love, Tracy:lol:

    bandster hell!!!

I would call the doctor as well. did he give you any antacids to take post op? I have a dissolvable tablet that I take daily. I also had horrible pain where you describe, but was gone after the first day. do you normally have acid reflux, GERD or a hiatial hernia? If he fixed a hernia, that may be some of it, but you may just need some meds. If you have any liquid mylanta, that wouldn't hurt to take a tablespoon or two of that while you wait for your doctor to call! Good luck! Hope you feel better real soon!
  10. Please get yourself into a good therapy program. If you continually vomit... you will cause two problems.... erosion and band slippage.... both of those will cause your band to be removed and could cause lasting damage to your stomach. We should All, always try to avoid vomiting at all costs. Good luck to you. You were brave to have a band! With support, you can do it!

    gall bladder surgery

I have heard the opposite. I heard with Gastric Bypass, you have to have your Gall bladder checked... and some may go on meds for up to 6 months post op... but it's not an issue with Lap band... Or so I've been told. I would double check that. And... I've been on here for nearly 6 months and I haven't heard of any one having it out yet. Good luck.. have you researched your doctor? Make sure you're a good fit!

    Pain

Not sure when you were banded... but it sounds like trapped gas in your chest. Try walking around, try gas x strips.... and when you're sitting down try and heating pad over the area. Walking is usually the best though!! Good Luck!! Hope you feel better soon! Some say the gas is worse than the incision pain!
  13. Hi Everyone... Yup... sounds like a panic attack. Have you had them before the banding incident? You should speak to your regular doctor about this and get a little support! they are no fun and you shouldn't suffer so badly. I actually had an "unfill" at post op day #11 due to some problems, I'll admit, (even though I'm a nurse) when I saw that needle coming I thought "what the...." Wow... that's a big needle... however... it was only a tiny little pinch when it went in and when it goes into the port... you feel a tiny little "pop" with no pain what so ever. Weird feeling... but it was all ok!!! I wish you well! GREAT weight loss... but wow... it's a bit too much since surgery!! That's a pound a day. Make sure you are having enough Protein, so you're not losing muscle instead of fat! Well done!

    I'm in Surgery Hell.

what a nightmare! sorry that happened to you! I'm concerned that you are on "clears" for so long. You need protein, and food! I agree that warm soup makes me feel SOOO much better. I have to strain it.. but it's comforting. I would call the office and say you can't do clear liquids any more.. and there must be a covering doctor that you could see or even speak too. I've been a nurse for 25 years and EVERYONE has to have someone covering for them, when they leave town. Be sure they know your situation.. but girl.. you need full liquids so you can have protein shakes and soup. There are power shots that are clear liquid with tons of protein. make sure someone gets you some of those. You should be getting at least 60 grams of protein EACH day in order to heal correctly! Best of luck, keeping you in my positive thoughts. I am just one week today, and it kicked my butt post op too, but I'm sticking with it. the best is yet to come!!!
  15. just a quickie... tea has caffeine...which is a diuretic... you are not getting the benefit from water, while drinking just tea...unless of course it is decaf. try water additives! Just a thought! sounds like you are in a constant state of dehydration to me.

    So WEAK! No Energy! Help

So Grateful for these posts!!!! I was banded on June 14th and I was supposed to go back to work tomorrow and I already had to call in! I am still so exhausted!! I too went to the store food shopping and came home and slept for 3 hours. I thought I knew what was in store for me with this surgery, but MAN did it knock me on my butt! So glad to hear we're all feeling the same! Hang in there, better days are coming!

    dieing for some pasta

Ahhhh there IS hope! I'm just 6 days out and thought I'd be giving up pasta forever and I STILL got banded!! I'm Italian and pasta is my favorite food!! Never thought of gnocchi! I also love that..so that will work just fine for me.

    Sick of this

Betsy B... your words never ring truer.. they are eloquently spoken and always from the heart. I always enjoy reading your posts! I was banded on the 14th of June! woo hoo!!! and the recovery has been a little harder than anticipated... but not unexpected. I'm a nurse and knew what to expect. What I've never observed, is getting over surgery AND trying to not get dehydrated AND trying to get the much needed nutrition in. We have triple whammies here.. our bodies, when we have surgery, have a true physical assault and it sort of shuts down a little.. it holds onto what it thinks it needs to heal etc. Then, add the trials of trying to sip our way into getting 64 oz of fluids in.. most of us don't the first few days..and the third is the Protein and nutrition that most of us can only get in half on in the first few days. So our bodies try and hold onto even more liquids. Is it any wonder we do not lose weight the first few weeks when our body is put into survival mode? Hang in there... I was told not to expect much until I get some restriction in a few months.... Best of luck to you!
  20. Hi everyone... Ok... post op day #3 and when my hubby came home he said I felt warm.. took my temp.. it was 100.8.... 1/2 hour later 101.0 Now I KNOW, since I am a nurse, we're supposed to report a fever over 101.0... but I rechecked it 1/2 hour later and it was 100.6. Just wondering if anyone had one in response to healing etc. My daughter Graduated from HS tomorrow and i"m going to be there come hell or high water!!!!! Help!
  21. thanks very much for the reply! I have to agree with you.. the body does try to react to the assault, i.e. surgery and implant.. so perhaps it was just gearing up. I'd be devastated if I missed her Graduation, so I'm heading to bed early and will call doc as soon as graduation is over!! ha ha.~
  22. Hi everyone! I'm finally BANDED!! woo hoo! very excited. hasn't been the easiest of days, but nothing worth doing/having is easy! Got a question for all of you "seasoned" bandsters... Are you burping? I was under the impression we wouldn't be able to burp much after banding... yet I find I am burping all the time? Especially when i've taken in some fluids... I burp. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
  23. Hi Lauren, I am also 3 days out and although my incisions are still hurting, they are much better... but I, like you, have had a very hard day. I am feeling nauseous, and have a lot of pressure over my stomach, where I imagine my band is. I think I've got gas there, so I've been taking gax x strips and applying heat. I've also had a really hard time getting my fluids in.. almost like there is a bubble. I'm sticking to clears today, except for my protein drink, which I have a few sips of every other hour. thought I'd be feeling a bit better by now! oh well... no regrets!!!!
