  4. Hey thanks for all the advise. I have backed off and am just letting him listen to his own body. He is drinking water and Isosure well and last night drank about 1/4 cup of Carnation sf breakfast shake. He said he was starting to get pressure in his chest and so he stopped. He walked alot and seems like his old self. His only complaint is some nagging shoulder pain, but tylenol takes care of it. Isn't it amazing how young people recover?! I really appreciate the feedback and I am sure I will be back to this site alot in the future!
  5. hello, My 19 y/o son was banded on Monday July 21. He did really well after the first day and is feeling good now. My problem is that he absolutely will not drink anything but water and the Isosure liquid drinks. He doesn't like any kind of broth or soup or the carnation instant breakfast. When he smells them he gags. He will get hungry in the evening, but still won't eat. I am worried about him not getting enough calories. He is taking water well. What do you suggest for the rest of the liquid phase and the mushy phase? He also hates eggs. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks! :confused2:
  6. Dear BigIron, I have been going thru the posts trying to find someone I felt comfortable talking to and found you because I liked your story and felt I could talk to you. I have not had the band, but my 19 y/o son was banded on Monday 7/21/08 in WV. It was a really tough decision. He is in college and was already having problems with sleep apnea and reflux. The surgery took a long time and he was in so much pain that I wondered if we had made the wrong decision. I cried alot. However, today we are 2 days out and he is really feeling pretty good. Alot of pain in left shoulder but not bad. Takes advil during the day and only pain medicine when needed. I had alot of trouble getting him to take any fluids at all, but tonight he told me he was hungry. He ate about 3 bites of NS jello and was full. My question and problem is that he is in college and when he goes back to school I wonder and worry about what he will do. My father died really young of heart disease and my son already has hypertension and high cholesterol. I hope we did the right thing and he really wants to loose the weight. His doctor told us that this is no different than if he had cancer or diabetes and we had to make a drastic change to save his life. I understand this, but am really going back and forth. I just wanted to talk to someone to get some advise and I saw that you have had so much success. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and talk to someone who had been through this. Thanks alot! Robin

  8. Dear Martha, I am new and read your post. My 19 year old son is having band surgery Monday July 21. I was wondering how your son Max is doing? Are you both glad he had it done? What is he eating now, and is he having any complications? When was he able to exercise and feel normal again? What tips as a mother could you give me as far as cooking etc. goes. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks! Robin
  9. Hi all! My name is Robin and it's great to find this site. My son is scheduled for lap-band surgery Monday. He's 19 and a sophmore in college. I am really nervous, but he is ready. His current weight is 303, but that is down about 25 lbs. He is 6'4" and has always had a weight problem. It's especially bad because his brother is stick thin and eats the same food. Anyway, my question is how long after the surgery do you feel pretty normal? He is a drummer in his college marching band and he starts bandcamp on August 8 and they assured me that 2 weeks is enough time to be ready for exercise. Also, how long will he be on liquids? How do you plan your day's food when you are at a camp? They say he can hold all the water he wants so he shouldn't get dehydrated, but I was wondering about feeling weak from the high protein low carbs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want him to succeed. He has really suffered not only in the way he has been treated, but his health (High lipids, HTN, and prediabetes) Thanks alot. :confused2:
