To me, the band is a tool to help control hunger and Portion Control. If I were able to cut out things for a lifetime I wouldn't have had this done. I think what is healthy, is to submit to a more healthy way of eating. On occasion, having a treat but always knowing this is 'our' battle. I know that once I reach my goal weight I still can NOT go back to eating as I was or I will weigh as much as I do. This is a journey to a new you, a new eating style and a completely different life style. IMHO, a doctor who says that has no idea what a person who has to lose weight is going through. I would say portions, exercise and moderation is the key to being sucessful. But thats just me

Even if what she says is true, all diets usually work until you stop "dieting". I chose the band for a "lifestyle" change like everyone else and couldnt be happier with my decision. Id like to see her results after a few years. A little advice to you (Elizabethindallas), stop wasting your time on another fad diet!

Well sometimes what goes around does come around. And for you I'm hoping when you start having problems with YOUR Lap Band that those you chat with on this forum are less accusatory then you were to the poster.

For me, the choice was a last resort. Last year (2009) I went to my Doctor and she suggested WW. I did pretty well, had lost 20lbs prior and 35lbs at WW. THEN, I went on vacation and fell off the wagon and kept on rolling down hill, gaining back the 35lbs. My cousin had a LB about 2yrs ago so I talked quite a bit to her (she's lost 120lbs). We grew up in a family of BIG eaters and you would have thought we were feeding an army at reunions/holidays etc.. When I returned to my Doctor (2010) after gaining back the weight I told her, well I'm checking into the LB, and she was in agreement with me. I have been successful on diets but I can NOT maintain for long periods of time. I went into this knowing the band is ONLY a tool and that it will help me with my big eater mentality . I still have to work on it, but I do not consider this a diet. I have a new tool and I'm changing everything about my life. Eating right, excersising and mentally changing my idea about why I need food.

This truly is a personal journey for each person here.

Best of Luck! I'm glad I made this choice.
