    Eating Uncomfortable

I am almost 5 wks post-op and having issues also with not being able to eat; I take 1 bite or sometimes 2 and right away I feel full and have a slight nausea. I'm not throwing up but feel queasy and then I start burping, 3 or 4 small burps in a row. I think I have too much acid, but when I contacted the surgeons office, they said I'm not chewing enough. I don't see the surgeon till next week. I'm thinking of starting omeprazole on my own, sort of to get "proof" I'm right about the acid, but not sure I should without a doctors ok. Just the thought of food sometimes makes me feel queasy, but I get really hungry! It's frustrating, my friend had her surgery 1 wk after me, same doc and same everything and she has no problems eating; I'm jealous!

    Possible restart of diabetes meds

my fasting sugar this morning was 133, not great, but better than the 150-170 it's been lately. I ate very little yesterday, because I felt nausea most of the day. One thing I didn't do was have any protein water late in the evening. I sometimes would have 1 because I know I fell short of getting enought protein for the day and my thinking was, its carb and sugar free, so it should be ok. Well, I think it's not ok, and won't be having any in late afternoon or evening. I'm eager to see if that has a real impact on my BS levels.

    Possible restart of diabetes meds

thanks for the feedback. I also am an older sleever, and diabetic for 15 years. I must learn patience and I'll continue to do what I can to improve and remain hopeful that this issue WILL improve. peace!

    Possible restart of diabetes meds

I am taking all my vitamins, B12, iron, calcium, everything I'm supposed to take. It's a conumdrum!
  5. Hi to everyone! I had my VSG on 1/07/15, and I, like most diabetics, was taken off of my diabetes meds when I left the hospital. Great! Wonderful! I'd heard this happens so often and was excited about getting off insulin and metformin. The first 2 weeks, my fasting (morning) blood sugars hovered around 125 ~. But since I've started eating "food", my morning sugars are high - 160-180. I am being VERY careful with my food choices, staying really low carb. I'm thinking my PCP will probably start me back on metformin, at least until I lose more weight ( down 34 lbs so far, yay!) Has anyone else had to restart their diabetes meds, and were you able to get off them for good when you lost more weight? I'm really kinda bummed out about this. I will admit to not exercising as much as I should, my only (poor) excuse is my energy has completely disappeared! But I'm being super careful with food. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
  6. I had my gall bladder removed 5 years ago and suffered for about 4 years with bile acid diarrhea before starting on the cholestyramine, and it works great! Wish I had tried it much earlier. I also asked my surgeon if I'd be able to continue taking it after sleeve surgery and he said he didn't see any reason why not. He did mention that most patients complain of constipation after surgery, so this could end up being a non-issue. In fact, this has turned out to be the case. I had my sleeve done on 1/07/15 and so far I've only taken 1 dose of the cholestyramine, simply because I thought I "should". I haven't taken any more in the past 15 days and have no diarrhea problems. Now, will that change when I'm able to eat more? We'll have to see. I'm just grateful that the medicine is available for us "3% ers"!

No Energy 3 weeks post sleeve surgery

Feeling much better today, after making a few changes. After doing some reading about Water absorbtion I thought I might need to increase salt intake a bit, so the fluids I'm drinking have time get absorbed in my intestines. I had six olives last night and another 6 olives this morning. Also, I increased my food intake a litle, also to give Fluid more time to absorb. I was eating very, very little (my surgeon said I should lose 25 lbs by the time of my next appointment - yikes, that sounds like a lot) And I'm really pushing the water. So all 3 things are definitely helping and today I feel about 75% better. Many thanks for all your help!

No Energy 3 weeks post sleeve surgery

Thank you everyone who offered me advice! I think you are right, I'm probably dehydrated. It's so tough to get in the protein AND the water! Question - do the protein shakes and protein water drinks "count" in your daily liquid totals? I've kind of been keeping an eye on my urine output/color to see if I was getting dehydrated, but obviously there is way more to it, more indicators of a problem developing.I really appreciate the advice of people who've been thru this and lived to tell the tale!
  9. Hi Everyone, 1st time posting! I had sleeve surgery 1/07/15 and aside from a couple if blips everything went well. No nausea, very little pain, went thru 1 week of Clear liquids then a week of "full" liquids and now am on what I think are called "mushies". Anyway, while on liquids I was full of energy and feeling great. I returned to work on 1/21/15 and feel extremely drained and totally lacking in energy. I've been getting approximately 50-65 gr of Protein a day (combo of Protein shakes and actual food) and also trying to get in 64 oz of Water but not getting near that target yet. Any suggestions on what might be causing me to feel so awful? I feel achy all over and vague pain in my lower back. I wonder if I should have stayed on full liquids awhile longer, I felt really good then. Has this happened to anyone else? This newbie would love some advice! thanks so much!
