  1. Morning ladies, Time for me to learn the abbreviations better. It is my son-in-law who will cook my first egg - not sister in law. lolol He is 45 and had gastric bypass last June and has lost over 70 lbs. He is a darling and a great husband to my daughter. He spoke at a support group last night for WLS patients. I love "Modern Family" - does anyone else watch it. Also Two and a Half Men. Have lost 15 lbs. since first weight in a doctors office and am amazed eating this little that weight doesn't continue to drop off. But I am patient and realize that I'm eating too few calories right now (& not exercising yet) Also, I have being a landlord in common with some of you ladies. Ours is commercial - not sure what type you both have. We have about 100 tenants. With the economy in it's current condition, our tenants are also having difficulties. I'm semi-retired and only work about 5 hours a MONTH. But, I'm older than most of you lolol. Feeling so good and the sun is out in Kansas City today, can spring be far behind?? Hugs to all. Joyce
  2. Indio - How do you remember all of us??? And put up with the stress at work? You are amazing. I move from full liquids to mushie on Sunday. My SIL who had gastric bypass last June (has lost over 70 lbs.) is coming over to prepare my first egg. What a sweetie. Sleep well ladies. Joyce in KC
  3. Froggie D - looks like we have a nice group in K.C. JC in KC
  4. Ashley - Visit a health food store and ask for help with protein sources. Isopure is a protein water containing 40 grams of protein. If you are able to find an informed clerk, you will receive lots of suggestions. Joyce in KC
  5. Nikki - I'm Day 8 past surgery and have been sleeping on my stomach the past 2 nights. No problem. Sleep well tonight.
  6. This is the best thread I have read so far. Worth hours of therapy. A 66 year life-long battle with food. Darn right I'll take help/ the lap band tool. So much personal effort goes into the use of the tool. Thanks for everyone's input here. I'll use all the experience from friends here. JC in KC
  7. I'm still post-op full liquids and have worried about this "up-coming" challenge. WHEN AM I FULL?? It will be a part of the process to learn what "full" feels like. Not knowing, or ignoring it, was what brought me to the band. Joyce in KC
  8. Goal is to reach 75 g. of Protein daily. So I'm still using Protein powder mixed with skim milk 3 x day. Adding in very thin tomato Soup, yogurt, applesauce, babyfood (2 oz) at a time, popsicles and today cream of wheat. The amounts are always less than 2 oz. Atleast I'm getting some different flavors. Joyce in KC
  9. Good luck, Jewell. Joyce
  10. btrieger - we have met in other forums. I'll be pulling for you tomorrow. Last Monday was my band day - so I'm 7 days out and feel great. Very little pain - back to my normal activity. Only took Loritab before leaving surgicenter. Never used any other meds except tylenol otc. Glad your day has finally arrived. Joyce in Kansas City
  11. Laura, Loved the pix of your parents - and WOW, what a cake for Nelson. Please tell me you didn't make it. lolol Crzytchr - I'll pray for you and the new student. There is a limit to how much you can handle and you are already helping so many students. Don't feel that you have to save them ALL. You have my admiration and respect. BTW - I did NOT eat popcorn. Just knew it would be difficult for me to enjoy the movie and learn that I don't need it. What a great group of ladies here. Let's all make it a great week. Joyce in KC
  12. Betsy, Thank you for describing "the worse" which wasn't that bad. Yes, I could handle that and I must take my meds. And you observation (legitimate) that I'm NOT relaxing. I'm obsessing and worrying about something that has NOT happened. Relax, breathe, slow down...... Great advice and direction. Thank you so much. Joyce in KC
  13. Thank you, teacher. Very comforting to hear/read. Joyce in KC
  14. btrieger - good luck this week as you join the banders. My surgery was very smooth sailing. DH had hired 24 hr nursing for first 2 days. NOT NEEDED at all. I was very lucky and hope you will be too. You have age on your side. Bob - we are all here to support you and lots of information here. We seek a healthier, happier life and WE ALL deserve it. Joyce in KC
  15. Full liquids are allowed - thinned down pudding, thinned down Soup, thinned down mashed potatoes. Even tho I'd like to try them, I'm chosing yogurt, applesauce and thin tomatoe soup. Afraid to try to open up the throat and swallow. Anyone else feeling this fear? Any suggestions from old-timers? Fear of getting stuck and/or vomiting. Joyce in KC
  16. Julie - your new pix is great. Nice to put a face with the posts. Jewell - so sorry to hear your son was ill. You had a very stressful weekend. DD went with me to the movie to see Celine World Tour movie. Only one show per day for two days - so glad I was able to see it. First time to a movie and NO POPCORN. Didn't think I could do it, but I'm too afraid to try. Fear is a great mentor. lolol Still have only tried baby food and yogurt. Taking it very slow. Still enjoying watching the Olympics.
  17. You are NOT alone. I had those feelings on Day 3. As if AIR was no longer available to me. In a panic mode. I'm still afraid to try eating. Only living on protein shakes and very soft foods - i.e. yogurt. Don't want to feel "stuck" or vomit. When I have those feelings, I look at these forums. So many others have been successful. If they can do it, SO CAN WE. Just have to be patient and go slow. In the meantime, we do have "air" and food to keep us alive. Look at the photos section. See all the success. Hope this helps you. Joyce in KC
  18. First 3 days were the hardest. I feel this discipline before band was seated, prepared me for the post-op requirements. A drastic change from the "pig out" life I had been leading. New life - new body. More happiness and self-confidence. The world is waiting for us. Joyce in KC
  19. Laura - what a great party. Easy to see everyone had a blast. Sorry about the rude ppl who responded and then no-showed. But they won't ruin the great memories. Joyce
  20. You look marvelous. Congratulations, sweetie.
  21. Hi Froggie, I will be 67 next month and was banded on 2-22-2010. You are NOT too old. May 11, 2009 I had a total knee replacement. Must get all this weight off the new knee - and the OLD one. The person who recommended the surgeon to me is a year older than I am and a year post surgery. She is thrilled with her decision, as I'm sure I will be as soon as the adjustment phase is over - i.e. relearning how to eat with the band. JC in KC
  22. Congratulations, Nelson (and Mommy & Daddy). Great pictures and a wonderful training sport for children. Joyce
  23. Hi Marjj, We all felt "what did I do to myself" the day after surgery. I'm confident if all the other ladies on this site (& men) can conquer this transition, we CAN TOO. Glad to hear you are doing well. Joyce in Kansas City
  24. I guess the next few months will be "trial and error" with some success thrown in. At a support meeting, someone said you just have to get to KNOW YOUR BAND. Each of us is different. I'm on Day 5 of Post-op and will start full liquids tomorrow. JC in KC
