    gday from Perth...

Hi Jackie, Rara and Alyce, Thanks for posting your comments A little update for me… 17 days out of surgery. My first week I was very sore and tender, thinking when on earth the feeling will pass!? I couldn’t eat (drink) much, only some Sustagen Hospital Formula, Optifast, prune juice and home made chicken broth and sipping Water all day. I added some Benefibre to my drinks to help with the slight constipation which luckily only lasted about a week. I didn’t do anything that week slept a lot, felt pretty miserable but trying to stay positive hoping I’ll be back to normal soon! Week 2 I went back to work. Hard at first and very exhausting! I was so tired by the end of that week. I was still on liquid only but was getting hungry so decided to stick with Optifast for Breakfast, lunch and dinner because it kept me full the most out of all the liquids allowed. Large yellow and purple bruises broke out on 2 of my incisions and I panicked a little bit because they were delayed and I thought I did something wrong! But no, all was fine I bought Rosehip oil and massaged into them every night before bed, it seemed to help – but felt nice anyway! Finally I started to get back into a regular routine and felt much better within myself. Week 3 (this week) I was allowed to start mushy foods (this is THE BEST feeling in the world!!) I soon discovered I don’t have any restriction or problem eating most foods. I have steered clear of chunky/tough/dry foods like steak and chicken breast and bread. I tend to eat a lot of Beans and eggs and yoghurt and fish. I’m trying to be really strict with my food intake and I am really worried about putting on some kg’s since coming off the liquids. Although I know this is normal, I really don’t want to undo any of the 15kgs I worked so hard to lose! I am trying to stick to a low GI eating plan and it seems to be working with keeping me full. I have my first fill on the 4th of March and I cannot wait to get the ball rolling… To answer your question Rara, I was banded by Dr Chris Couch at the Mount Hospital. How about everyone else? Take care everyone will keep in touch J

    2 weeks post op tomorrow

lucky you! i dont have any restriction so im hungry most of the day... been getting into the eggs, Beans and fish alot keeps me going but night time is hurtin me! i know i will put on some kg's before my first fill but trying realllly hard not to be too much! so glad we are feeling better huh, and how good is sleeping on ur side/tum!! Bell1138 - it wasnt very long ago that both erinrutledge and I felt pretty shite too, i know i felt "is this ever going to feel normal!?" but after going back to work in the second week things started to become much easier and now, 16 days later things are almost back to normal... i have just a few faint bruising left on my incisions but they do not hurt vey much, and sleeping/moving around is not a problem. fear not

    Linseed, Sunflower, Almond (LSA)

Oh cool  My dad lives in Lesmerdie! definately check out those Goji berries... you should be able to get them from the shops or definately from the health food shop... I had a smoothie this morning with the LSA mix... 1 banana 2 tablespoons of LSA milk tablespoon of honey (altho could have done without!) was delicous and im full
  5. I am just wondering if these nuts are ok the bulk up smoothies or cereal? I have a very delicious mix of LSA which has the consistancy of breadcrumbs as they are all crushed, but tastes SO nice when mixed in smoothies like banana or sprinkled on all-bran. It tends to bulk up the meal and add a sweeter taste, but i dont know much about the nutritional value, can anyone help me with this? thanks :scared2:

    Linseed, Sunflower, Almond (LSA)

Hi Viv, I buy it pre-mixed and ground from the local supermarket. The brand is Woolworths Naytura but thats in Australia im not sure if its the same there? If you like the antioxidants in blueberries, have you tried Goji berries? Goji Berries | Goji Antioxidants | Goji Health food and disease prevention check out the chart it compares the goji berries to other foods including blueberries. When i buy them i usually put them in cereal yum yum!

very cool! thanks so much... it is delicious! I thought it was healthy enough but didnt know much about the fats as i know nuts contain. thanks again
  8. So you and Lello both have the same PS surgeon and both look great I'll be writing his name in my address book just incase I need it later (I kinda hope I do because it would mean I have lost all the weight!) I look forward to your updated PS pics :) Im getting my first fill on the 4/3/10 so very excited!

  9. "Just banded and a little worried that it wouldn't work for me!" That is totally my thoughts! I fully intend to be strict in my new lifestyle decisions with eating and being more active, but I do read of so many issues and problems with the band sometimes I think im almost doomed before I start. I like to think "that wont happen to me!" but im sure everyone thought that and it did happen to them. Alas, im still being positive which i think is a major factor to be successful in life in general anyway. I get my first fill on the 4/3/10 so can't wait to get the ball rolling :)

  10. i just find it cool in the scheme of everything in this wide world to be so vast we manage to bump into people from home :) kinda comforting i guess... could I ask where you had your lapband done and also the PS?

oh and thank you so much for exposing yourself and putting it all 'out there' for us to see the plastic surgery transformation.

  11. ah thats really good about the sleep thing -im getting more comfortable as the nights go by too yay... i went to my 1 week checkup and all good so feeling pretty positive at the moment. i have my first fill in 3 weeks. and the bandages are off so i scraped all the adhesive from them off and rubbed some rosehip oil to help the skin regenerate. definately feeling much better - altho work is tiring :/

  12. Hello and congrats :) both you and Fanny Adams are great inspirations to me! Also being from Perth makes it that much more exciting too... i was banded a week ago so I am on my way but only the beginning :) can I ask which surgeon you had for your lapband and if you had your BL in perth?

  13. Hello Fanny! just wanted to say you are a true inspiration for me... and being from perth makes it all that much more realistic! would luv to learn more about you... oh without sounding like a stalker :)

  14. hey hun, thinking of you today - our first day back at work! i read your a hairstylist so much mroe physical than my job hope you went ok! i dont know how well i would have gone if i wasnt able to sit at my desk...

  15. I can definately agree with the crying, i suffer from mental illness since a child, and i can determine the differences in sadness.. i know it sounds stupid but i always get very down after or during any sickness or surgery, i cant explain why... not from the pain but mentally just very low... i do try and think positive and havnt let it get the better of me this time but came very very close. I am 1 week post op today hoorah. still sore in the larger incision, but managed to sleep somewhat on my tummy last night so felt alot better this morning. back at work today also, i am tired and exhausted but glad to be going back to normal everyday routine instead of doing nothing! i dont know about the gas that is really painful, but its just annoying, feeling like burping, but opening my mouth only to hiccup kinda and inhale instead! i managed also today to lift some kind of heavy-ish thing and didnt hurt my tum so must be healing ok! definately waiting to be "normal" again though!
  16. argh me too... i just wanna roll over! i kinda half roll and twist but end up all munted and having to go back to laying on my back hehe ive been pretty "blah" few days, but starting to get back up there... going back tomorrow to work so least it will keep me occupied i am SO BORED being off last week coz obviously couldnt do much.. yeh the gas is a bit of an issue for me too.. like i need to burp constantly think i will some diff tabs tomorrow from the chemist. anyway, 11:40pm i should try and get some sleep b4 work, gonna be a loooong day! night :)

  17. I have been floating around the site for a while and thought it was about time to introduce myself. I am Carissa... 22 from Perth, Australia. I had my lap band op on Monday 1st Feb 2010 so am currently 6 days post op. I managed to lose 11kgs in the pre-op Optifast diet for 3 weeks and to admit, it was the easiest 11kg i have ever lost. I was hungry, tired and grumpy yes, but knowing i was doing it for the operation made it so much easier. I started at 150kg, and at the time of the op 6 days ago I was 139kg. I'm not sure what i would be today but i see my doctor on the 9th for the first checkup so hopefully i can weigh in then. I have really just been sleeping since I came home on Tuesday. moving about a little bit but mostly sleeping! A friend of mine suggested to place a pillow on my side and try sleeping like that - and im glad she did, soo much easier to rest. My incisions seems to be ok, although there is a yellow-ish bruise-like colouring on the larger incision, but reading around i see this is normal (??) I go back to work on Monday - have found out some of my superiors opened their mouth so not very happy about that, i told only certain people for a reason! Well I continue to enjoy weaving my way through this site, plenty of info and general chit chat, nice to know we are not alone
  18. i did 3 and a half weeks... dont be too worried... i was sooo ready to have WLS so i found it easier than anything else to stick to because i knew the purpose. it does kinda suck if you are around alot of social events and friends tend to forget how strict you try to be hehe.. i discovered a few things when on Opti and am still discovering... google Optifast variations and it will give you some helpful hits but i found adding flavoured essence to the shakes was nice - orange essence to chocolate shake, coconut essence to vanilla shake etc.. i dunno how you feel but to restrict fruit and vege to me doesnt sound right, so i ate them at my own judgement, just didnt have too much fruit due to the sugar content, but vege everyday and snacked on baby tomatos, carrots, cellery, raddish,... just anything i could easily shove in my mouth to avoid eating other bad stuff  i managed to lose 11kg so that kinda says what i did was ok?? hehe anyway good luck!
  19. thanks for the welcome Dawn, you look great and congrats!! im finding this place very resourceful already
  20. thank you  to be honest im ready to do anything i am bored outa my brain!! i know ill be sooo tired/exhausted after work on Monday but i think im ready to begin some kind of normal. are you on the pre op diet at the moment? where abouts in oz are ya? im going ok on the liquid diet so far... usually i have an Optifast, sustagen and some prune juice or vege juice or chicken broth and constantly sipping Water throughout the day. i dont think im really hungry but when my housemate makes lunch or dinner i crave the food hehe
  21. I am also thinking on Monday, when i go back to work and things start going back to normal I also will start feeling normal... ish! things affecting me right now would be internally - the gas - have tried de-gas but think i will look for something else as these dont appear to be helping much. other than that i feel good on the "inside." The surgical sites seem o.k other than the larger one close to my belly button. (is this where my port could be?) I think i was too doped up to remember when the Dr told me... its also yellowish bruise like colour and slightly numb feeling so just waiting for that to heal or til i see the dr on Tuesday to suss that out. sleeping is pretty uncomfortable, SO SICK OF SLEEPING ON MY BACK!!!! just want to roll over and get comfy! sleeping on my side is ok with a pillow but still not great. Mentally - "blergh" would decribe that... *sigh* but thanks everyone the more i read the better i feel
  22. i dunno if i replied properly to the friend request thing... but yeah i was thinking would be cool coz we pretty much got banded the same time :) how tou feeling?? my incisiions are still a bit sore and sleeping isnt overly comfortable :(

  23. hey sure i was thinking the same thing :)

  24. totally me (except I am getting a bit of pain from the incisions) I was banded on monday (1st feb) and also feel pretty "blah" and wondering if I am actually hungry or not
  25. Thanks Nene... note more pillows on order, stat! Majj thanks for reminding me of the Aussie pages... will have to go and say hello down there too. On a side note... I ♥ De-Gas! suffering badly tonight.
