    Pizza

I had surgery Oct. 21 and had 1 piece of VERY thin crust pizza (cowboy from Papa John's) I chewed the bejesus out of it and had no issues. Held it to one piece. Last night I had ground beef mixed with Zataran's Dirty rice. and a teaspoon of steamed spinach, again no issues. I think eating is a very individual topic. Do you have issues with dumping, how has solid food agreed? It all depends on you. Small amounts, high Protein, low carbs. For me its all about flavor. If I think I am craving something, I will get a taste, a teaspoonful. Craving leaves. Sometimes food I like doesn't even appeal any more, after a taste. Weird. So trust yourself to make the best decisions for you and I promise your stomach will guide you. Good luck!

    OCTOBER 2014

I have horrible knees and I do gain weight when I retain Water. As much 2-4 pounds. I do not have RA but really bad degenerative arthritis in both knees. Had one replaced in March, just mad I waited NO PAIN in that knee and only occasional swelling. The bad knee will go bye bye early next year. I took celebrex for nearly 20 years in varying amounts and now do not use it at all. I had stopped almost a year before RNY. It is such a journey.

    I'm stuck in Plato

Plateau's are normal, water is a culprit. So are regular BM's I like the fiber gummies I get from Costco. Water is also your best friend. I wish my weight loss had been as rapid... ah well....

You've lost 70 pounds, Hooray. You seem to be doing everything right. What is going on to make you feel stuck?

Hi I am not sure what horse pill you are taking but ANY large pill is sure to get stuck as it is going through an opening the size of a straw. As awful as it sounds either crush it (yuck) or divide it into smaller pieces then take one at a time. I used to swallow pills by the handful. No more. I am also almost off ALL meds now anyway. Thank God. As to gallstones. I had those when i was considered overweight at 180.. (geez). I would rather give birth to a 10 pound baby than go through the pain again. They say the rule is overweight and over thirty, is a clue to having gallstones. It took nearly six months to figure what the pain in my gut was from. Then it was emergency surgery. At least these days it is laparoscopic . I have a 8 inch scar. As to throwing up. That is dangerous too. I had a lap band for three years and threw up off and on for the whole time. Twice flipping my pouch, emergency surgery twice. ....and I burned my vocal cords and esophagus from stomach acid. I was a soprano singer, now I can barely sing. SOOO my best advice is make the pill smaller, even if it is gross, you will like the end results much better. By the way congratulations on your weight loss, that is terrific!

Ditto to what everybody says. My God your Doctor is a complete jerk. (ass) they forget they work for us. Do talk to your bariatric surgeon as they are probably at least familiar with this problem. Praying for you!
  11. I have to keep me reminding me that it took YEARS to get this way and it is taking years to find me again. Dang it... Also I have kept getting better SLOOOWLY.

I'm not supposed to get labs for 6 months.... hmmm. wish they all had a basic book of do's and dont's. But in reality we are all so different. Any way it will get better. That is the one thing I can comfortably say for sure. So keep the eyes on the prize and be patient.. :-)

    Do you snack?

I am just going to second all the above folks. I was told to eat 5 small meals a day and to sip Protein in between that. I try to follow my gut. The two times I didn't listen to my gut I returned what I ate. After those two smackdowns I am REALLY listening to my stomach. So far the scale has been on a downward trend. Woo hoo! So snack away, small, high protein or a bite of what you crave. I have discovered that many of my "faves" don't taste good anymore. weird....

    Ready to Stop Crushing

I am six weeks out and if the pill is small, (think no bigger than an Advil) or like its less than a tiny bite of soft food, I try taking it whole. So far so good. I am with you, crushing sucks the taste is hideous. Hope this helps.

    Metamucil?

For what it's worth I had one very painful bout of constipation and cut back on Calcium supplement, got Fiber Gummies at costco and really made sure I got my fluids in. Have not had a repeat. You really cannot drink anything Fluid too fast That being said check your Iron intake too. Iron, calcium and, yes, pain meds, can aggravate constipation. Talk to your Doc about moderating those supplements until you normalize. If you are like me, maybe not, you don't want to trade off damage to your colon for supplements. It may only be a simple adjustment to get you on track. Hope so. By the way, the fiber gummies are pretty palatable too. Good luck!

    OCTOBER 2014

my Thanksgiving Day was great. Even if I did throw up for the first time since surgery October 21. ....of course I did it myself. One bite too much and an al dente' green bean. But I felt better immediately. After nearly three years of throwing up after my lap band from 2009 -2013, this was great. I am smarter this time and I am slowly but surely losing weight. I like reading the stories of everyone's journey. Wish we all had learned these lessons without surgery but I am thankful that we have this opportunity to heal! Lose and find our new path. Good wishes to all!

    Any Fun Hospital Stories?

No really funny stories. By the time I had the by-pass it was my third surgery in just over a year. August 2013 to remove my lap band in an emergency surgery, March 2014, first new knee, October 2014 Roux n y by-pass. The good news is I am doing well. Healing well. I also seem to be able to follow the plan, maybe I finally just got smarter. I am enjoying the funny stories though. I can identify!

    OCTOBER 2014

Well I am officially on pureed food. So far not bad. I feel the best after I eat some cottage cheese and made a discovery that if I eat one meal with some carbs my energy level picks up noticeably. So hI think one meal with carbs ..or snack is a good thing. We'll see.
