  1. Happy 39th Birthday RinaMae14!

  2. I have been having the same problem... I was banded on 01/27/10 and I have only lost 3-4 pounds since surgery. However, I have lost at least one dress size and can't really wear any of the pants I wore pre-op. I have resorted to wearing dresses since they are more forgiving when losing weight and do not need to be replaced as often. The good news is that I no longer have to buy an XL or (gasp) a 2X anymore! Don't lose hope!

    Help! not losing!!!

I think you're getting enough calories. I was banded on 01/27/10. Though I have only lost 3-4 lbs since surgery, I look a lot thinner. I have been struggling to get to 1200 calories a day. Most of the time, I only get 700-800 calories. I noticed that when my intake was between 1000-1200 calories, my weight would go down. Now that I'm on the pureed food stage, I am working harder to get the proper calorie intake. Good luck!

    REALIZE Band port site pain

You're not alone! I was banded 3 weeks ago (01/27/10) and I still have quite a bit of pain at my port site. It actually hurts more during the week (when I'm sitting at my office job) because my body pushes on the port while sitting. Ugh. So now I stand more often.

    Is this normal????

It was normal for me. I was banded on 01/27/10. Did your doctors give you post-op instructions? I was instructed to drink 1-2oz of Clear liquids every 15 minutes for the first 4 days post op. Day 5-14 liquid diet (work your way up to 64oz Water and pre-op liquid diet - 1000 cal, 60-80g Protein including 3 popsicles/ fudgesicles, 3 cups milk or 3 servings yogurt/pudding, 2 cups "low sugar" juice like apple or orange). Day 15-30 pureed food (you should be able to "eat" about a cup of "food" in one sitting and get all water intake by this time). Day 31-44 Smooth Foods including eggs. You should be working up to 1200 calories/day (3 300 calorie meals and 2 150 calorie snacks) by this point. Day 45+ Solid Foods. Keep track of what your body cannot tolerate. I hope this helps.

Open Letter to Dr Horgan @UCSD

HappyHomeCC, Are you post-op? Perhaps you should review Dr. Horgan on here... My surgery is in a week. I'll be writing a review sometime after that. I love the entire staff at UCSD's CTO (Center for the Treatment of Obesity?). They are very warm and caring, even when you're stressed out and nervous.

    Week 1 Anniversary!

Congratulations, Hippo-Ray! I am right behind you. My surgery is in a week. I am down 9 lbs since starting my pre-op diet on 01/08/10. I have lost a total of 24 lbs since my initial consultation at the end of May 2009. Whew! This is quite a journey! If you work, have you gone back to work yet? Keep us posted on your journey.
  8. I guess I am lucky in that my team is located all in one place and I could have most of my appointments on the same day. I had an issue with the manometry... I'm not sure if this is the same test as the upper GI test other posters have mentioned... It would have been nice if I had a little warning about the test! The doctor said that the test would be unpleasant. I thought it was painful and the worst thing that I had to do in my life (so far). If you haven't experienced it, I should explain... The doctor puts a gel up your nostril to facilitate the tube he inserts into your nostril down your esophagus to your stomach. I have issues with my nasal cavities and the tube coiled onto itself. The doctor was persistant and tried this procedure in BOTH nostrils TWICE! Ouch! Since he could not go through my nose, I ended up swallowing the tube. The second version was unpleasant (with the gagging and all), but the first version was torture. If you know you have an issue with your nasal cavities, I suggest that you speak with the doctor before he attempts this procedure. The Barium Swallow was not very pleasant either. The barium they made me drink gave me diarrhea for several days. Ugh. Anyway, my surgery is in a week. I am so excited! Thanks for "listening".
