    PCOS pregnancy success story.

My story is a little different, but yet similar in that I too have PCOS and I had the Lap Band done. My surgery was on October 26, 2009 and I have lost 75 lbs. so far (currently at 185). My whole reason for getting the surgery was to lose the weight so that I could have children. My husband and I only waited 6 months before we started trying and unfortunately we were not successful on our own. We tried for 6 months before seeing my OBGYN. She put me on Clomid, a fertility medicine to try to get me to ovulate, since I wasn't doing that on my own, due to the PCOS. And we all know that without ovulation, pregnancy is impossible! So, we tried the medicine for 2 months with no luck, so my OBGYN sent me to a fertility specialist. We waited a month before going, so this brings us to our 10th month of TTC. The Dr. had us take a whole bunch of tests and take a different medication that was also supposed to help with ovulation. This time the medication worked and I not only ovulated for the first time, but also conceived! I just found out 3 days ago that I'm pregnant! I know that I still needed the help of the medication to make this work, but I whole heartedly believe that it would have been near impossible without the surgery. There have been times that I've thought to myself that the surgery was a waist since it wasn't helping me to get pregnant at all, let alone with the medication, but when I look back on it, I never should have started trying so early after my surgery. I hadn't lost all the weight that I should have, and if I would have waited longer, it's possible that my ovulation could have come back on it's own. Either way, I'm still so very blessed to even say that I'm going to have a baby when it seemed so far away and almost impossible to achieve, Praise God!
  2. I was diagnosed with PCOS 4 years ago, right before I got married. My husband wasn't ready for kids at the time, so I didn't really let the diagnosis affect me, and to be honest, I didn't really believe that I had it or that I would have problems ttc. I really started to get the baby bug about a year ago, but was very concerned about my weight and how it would affect me and a baby during a pregnancy, so I decided to get the Lap Band to help me lose the weight and hopefully fix those problems. I had the surgery 9 months ago and have lost 63lbs in that time. We started ttc almost 4 months ago and still haven't had any results. I am really hoping that as I continue to lose weight, my PCOS symptoms will go away and that we will be able to have children naturally. We have already decided not to take any drugs of any kind and that we will adopt if we have to. But now that it's been a few months, I'm really starting to freak out that my PCOS is affecting my fertility and that I wont be able to conceive naturally! I give so much credit to all of you that have been trying for a lot longer then me and are still hanging in there. It has been hard for me not to get so emotional every month when nothing happens! I just keep praying for patients and strength! Easter Challenge Anyone?

I'm down 3 lbs. this week. It's been a long time coming :tongue_smilie: Things have been moving slow lately! I've got 9 more pounds to go until I hit my Easter goal of 199! I'm getting there, can't wait! Surgery: 10/26/09 Starting:260 Pro-Op: 236 Current: 208 Goal: 135
  4. I'll have to check into this program you guys r using to train. I've been dying to become a runner. I used to play sports a lot but have always been very slow and I'd get tired very easy. I just started playing soccer again and I'm having the same problems. So, I set a goal for myself to run a mile in under 10 minutes. I have been training myself on the treadmill at my gym. When I first started I could only run for 2 minutes, but I was dying! Just today I ran a mile in 12:50 at 5.2 miles per hour. I'm getting much closer to my goal and I'm SO excited! I plan on entering a 8k on March 6th which is in 2 weeks. It will be my first one :frown: I cant wait! Surgery Date: 10/26/09 Starting: 260 Pre Op: 236 Current: 208

    Upper Leg Numbness

Same thing happened to me! After surgery my thighs went numb too, mostly my right one and most often in bed at night when trying to fall asleep! It went away after a couple weeks. Never thought it was related to the surgery until I read this thread. How funny is that?

    Easter Challenge Anyone?

I'd like to join the Easter Challenge as well. I didn't make my goal for the Valentine's Day challenge. My weight loss has pretty much stopped in the last month or two. I need to lose 12 lbs to get out of the 200's, so I'm hoping I can do it by Easter! Surgery Date: Oct 26, 2009 Highest: 260 Pre Op: 236 Current: 211 Goal: 135

    I just don't get it.......

I had the same problem. I lost 11lbs the first week and then went 2 more weeks before I lost anything else. I've been steadily loosing 1 - 1.5 lbs per week since then. I think it might have to do with the fact that you were on liquids for a week.

    Post op Port question

Mine is on the front of my stomach, just above my belly button but off to my left side. One of my incisions is RIGHT next to it. I'm sure you'll be able to find it once you heal a little. Mine is extremely close to the skin though, so I can feel mine almost all of the time!
  9. The diet that my doctor suggested I be on (even for the 3 months before my surgery) is the South Beach Diet. The basic premise is to eat low fat meats and cheeses, fruits, vegetables and Whole wheat or Whole grains. I was able to lose 19lbs pre-op in 3 months on South Beach and 25lbs more post-op in 3 months. It really is all about picking the healthier options. I do tend to stay away from lettuce and celery though, because I am afraid of having difficulty with them, but there is nothing I've found so far that I can't eat. It is difficult to stay away from some of the greasier, high fat foods because those tend to go down real easy. If you are worried about not staying full in between meals, I would just make sure you limit the amount of carbohydrates you eat because they are basically just sugar and the more you eat, the more you crave. Eating Proteins first, like they said, is your best bet to stay fuller longer. Good Luck! It's really not that scary, I'm sure you'll do just fine! It's actually quite amazing how normal you can really eat. I don't feel like I'm sacrificing much of anything by having this surgery done. I would go through this whole process again if I had to

    Sad news

I just got my first fill yesterday. My surgeon filled me with 3 ccs during surgery and I was doing well with that for the last 3 months, but I'm only averaging 1 lb per week and I feel like I can do better, so I asked the NP to give me a fill to see how it goes. She only gave me .5ccs because she said she thought that I was doing well. We'll see how I do! I'm not sure if it will make much difference or not, I'm still drinking liquids and eating soft foods. 11. I have a different experience. I am 3 months post op and I only get the pain in my chest if I eat something that I didn't chew well enough. It usually happens after my first bite. And I know I'm not full at that point because I just started eating. I get a satisfied feeling when I am full, but not the same fullness that I felt before the surgery when I would over eat and be stuffed! Most times I end up stopping because I don't really feel like chewing anymore  I think my brain just recognizes that I've had enough. I have actually learned that I can leave some food left on my plate which I was never able to do before. I used to eat all of it, even if I was already full. As for the hunger, I very much know when I am hungry because my stomach will gurggle and make noises, but usually it only happens every 5 hours or so.
