  1. Ok, so I have a son that is 9 almost 10 year old son who currently weigh's 145 lbs, and I am very worried for his health. I have removed most of the junk food that is in my house, I keep fruits and vegetables and other healthy Snacks that I can eat in the house for my kids to eat. I worry for my son because he is so over weight at a young age and I don't want him to grow up and have issues like I did with my weight. I want to help him now and that was one of the reasons I myself got healthy with my weight loss surgery. My son is a sports child, loves to play sports and his biggest sport is football which he plays from Aug. 1st through late November 4 - 5 days a week for 2 hour practice and then weekend games. While playing this sport he did loose the weight and has since gained it back, and now he is wrestling but it is only 1 day a week practice as he does it with our local boys and girls club. I need to help him now, and need all of your help to help me to help him. I am the only person in our house that works at the moment so money is in short supply, and I have looked into gyms and stuff like that where he could use equipment to help him with getting fit, and none of the local gyms will allow him to use any equipment even with a parent with him due to his age. I have checked the YMCA and they also won't allow him to use equipment with a parent. We also have a very small apartment with very little space to do exercising to videos (which I am working on moving rooms around to change this). We also live in New England and it is very cold here so to go for long walks at this time is very difficult with the weather. Most days we don't see temp's above 20 right now and so that is very hard to get motivated to go out and get exercise. I know my son likes snacks and he even will eat dinner and shortly after dinner he is hungry again. He will sneak food, and eat late at night when I tell him no more. I am looking for some ideas of ways to help him and snack ideas of ways to help him at this point. If anyone has any ideas to help me help my son, I would love to hear any and all suggestions! Thank you!!!

@@drmeow, thanks you have made some very good points, as I know how you feel about your food cop situation cause my father was that to me, as my mom was also overweight like I was all my life, except my mom didn't get overweight till after she had my sister who is 3 years younger than me, and so she was a bean pole all her childhood life, and although she didn't monitor really anything we ate as children she also didn't nag at us till we got older, me mostly. My brother is a heavy guy but he is also 6'3"? So a lot of his weight is in his height too? So I have really been the overweight person all my life in my family and my father used to nag about food, and tell me I have to loose weight. I hated it, so I don't nag at my son or tell him he can't eat things except soda, cause I really never allowed them soda since they were little cause I didn't want it to rot their teeth? His birthday is coming up and I have actually been thinking about buying him a weight bench for his birthday cause I know he likes doing weights and stuff like that, so that is probably what it will come to. Usually in the nicer months he does go outside all day running, playing, riding his bike, his uncle is going to take him rollerblading. we have a local park that has a skate park and he already knows how to roller blade and so to do that he will enjoy that, and then in August he starts his football season again, and that runs from August to the end of October and he has practice 4-5 days a week and then games on the weekends? So he will get plenty of working out in then too. I will be talking to his doctor at his next appt. and seeing if I am over reacting, cause I don't want him to develop the habits I have in my life. I love my kids way too much to put them through what I went through. Thanks

    50 shades of Grey

So I have read the books more than once, and I will say if you haven't read the book you might like the movies, but if you have read the books then the movie is definitely not going to live up to the books, the books are so much better. They didn't follow the timeline of the book and they changed things around from the book to the movie, and I was very disappointed in the movie, also the actor that played christian gray, he just didn't live up to the hotness description from the book. That being said I probably will still go see the movie of the rest of the books, but I would totally prefer to read the books again than watch the movie. You said that some of the sex scenes in the trailer are arousing, then you should really read the book, it is 100 times more arousing!!!

@@Debbie Jean, Thanks for all you have said, and I do love my kids to pieces and I just want both my kids to live long healthy lives. I plan on talking to his doctor when we go for his appt. next month about all that has been talked about here. I just want to clarify one thing and that is I didn't put him on a diet per say, I just removed all the junk from the house and stocked it with healthier options and the weighing himself, that is his choice, he wants to do it, I don't make him. He doesn't even see me weighing myself cause I do it in my bedroom on Monday mornings before he is even awake? I know he has seen me have problems with my weight, but now he sees me healthy and happier than I have been in a really long time, so I think he wants to follow my example of being healthy.

  8. So I went to my doctor to see them about my hernia surgery recovery today and my doctor is very impressed with my weight loss from my bypass and said once I get under 180 lbs he is going to refer me to a plastics doctor to have my skin removal. I have 10 lbs to get under 180, 14 lbs to my goal weight, wow what a year this has been!!! I am super proud of myself and all that I have accomplished!!!

@@InspirationMySon, I was thinking that maybe it could be that he is going to enter puberty too, and he does have his 10 year appt. coming up and so I plan to talk to his doctor about it then too. I am just very worried for him and growing up the way I did. I don't want that for him, he is heavier than I was at his age, and I know how it was for me. So as for going outside and playing in the snow, he loves to do that, I don't particularly like it so I don't do much of it, but he loves it. I am just trying very hard to keep him from eating unhealthy and junky. The exercise part being in the winter just is very hard for all of us, but I am looking into alternative options. So we will see what we can get him doing. Thanks!!!
  11. Wow lost 3 lbs this week, only 17 more lbs to my goal!!!

@PinkPolkadot619 2 lbs a week is a good #, believe me I don't loose 3 lbs a week very often anymore cause I am so close to my goal weight, but I am more than happy to take 3 lbs??? lol. @BladeFox Thanks mama!!! It's been a while how are you doing? Haven't seen much from you in a while?

      PinkPolkadot619

you are so close!!! I am so excited for you! you must be feeling so much better! I know you had a lot to over come during your journey and extra healing. Your journey has been an inspiration and encouragement. I can't wait to have a 3 pound week some time again, I know I just need to do more working out. hehehe I have 28 more pounds so I know my 1-2 lbs a week is still good. I just get scared of stalling.

      have a good day!

@PinkPolkadot619 I stalled for a good month, but that was also at the time that I had my hernia repair too, which was very discouraging, but I didn't let that stop me, I am now just picking back up and moving along. You can do this just always remember what your reason for going through this was and you will get to the end goal and you will live a better life cause you will be healthier than when you started. Don't look back always look forward!!!

Thanks I do keep him as active as possible, and I don't keep snacks even for his sister. My husband has snacks, but those stay locked in our room, and he only has a few, nothing extreme, and he doesn't give them to him either, we are both working together to give him healthier eating options.

I don't allow my kids soda except on special occasions. I never have it in the house, and they aren't allowed soda when we go to a store or anything. The only time they get it is mostly at parties? Even then they don't always get it, my kids are big Water drinkers, so it's definitely not soda issues, and I don't have unhealthy Snacks in the house, I keep as much healthy stuff in the house as possible.

    Band to Bypass 2/5/15

I also had a band in 2010, and in 2011 had to have mine removed due to the same problems, but at the time I was too scared to have the revision to anything else, and just had the band removed. I am now 10 months post bypass surgery and I am down 105 lbs from 300 to 195 and I couldn't be happier. I wish in 2011 that I had gone forward with the revision instead of wasting 3 years of my life still being unhealthy, but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and I just wasn't ready back then. I hope that you don't have any problems with having the revision and I wish you good luck you are making the best choice for you!!! Good luck!!!

    Please Help!

He drinks mostly Water, and usually a glass of milk for dinner. As for the snacking and having to do with stress from school or friends, I don't think so he is a very happy kid and always smiling and just a happy kid. I think he just likes to eat, if I were to remove the Snacks I would have to remove everything and lock it up in my room, Cereal, bread, cause what he will do is make himself a Peanut Butter sandwich for a snack, or he will have a bowl of cereal, and I don't buy the sugar cereals it's just he is eating more than he should be. I don't buy potato chips or crackers, or stuff that I know are no good, so he just picks up stuff that can be ok in moderation and will eat it to excess? As for the exercise stuff, yes he could do free swim and basketball at the Y I just want to teach him to be healthy he also needs to keep moving. I have a thyroid issue and I had him checked for that and he doesn't have that issue, I am just scared for him. I don't want him to develop diabetes or heart issues?

You face looks like a donut

NO!!! I know how it feels to be overweight and in a relationship that some of this stuff happens, it didn't go to this extreme, but it did get to the point of him cheating on me, which is also my kids father who had done this to me, to whom I also have 2 children with. I left him finally after my son was born. My son was only 5 months old when I just had enough, and my son is now going to be 10 in a little over a month. It was the best decision I had ever made for myself to leave him when I did. I didn't need the abuse I got from him about my weight and emotional abuse I got from him with him cheating on me, so I finally just had enough. I kicked him out and that was that, I think alot of heavier women have that same feeling that if they have children with a man that they need to stay with them, but it's not true. I realize that now. I was scared beyond belief when I left, I didn't want to be my mom a single mom, alone for the rest of my life? I met a man almost 3 years ago, and we are getting married now in 5 months. He met me when I was at my biggest and loved me then and loves me now too. This man that you were with does not deserve you, you deserve way better!!! He does the things he does to you because there is something in himself he isn't happy with. Just stay positive and you can do this.

My Partner says "you took the easy way"

@@bellabloom, All I can say is WOW, I have to say I sort of know how you feel, cause it may not have been my partner who used to say these things to me but my father used to say things about my weight and stuff like that to me, he started talking to my mom like that first, then as I grew older, and started putting on the weight too he would do it to me. I haven't been under 200 lbs since I was in 8th grade, and I have always played sports and worked out, and ate healthy, but I have a very under-active thyroid which made it very hard for me to loose weight like people with normal thyroids. It saddens me that people can be so hypocritical about this surgery, because it is the exact opposite to the easy way out. You have to give up so much more than just food when you decide to do this. Not only do you have to stop eating most of the foods you are so accustomed to but you have to learn a whole new way of eating and making sure you get in the right amounts of Vitamins and everything. I am very proud of you for finally putting your foot down for yourself and not letting him bring you down anymore. He doesn't deserve you, as you deserve someone who is going to be there for you and be strong for you through all that you are and will go through with this surgery. I feel sorry for him and who he is. As you said too he is overweight himself, so he should be put in front of a mirror and someone should tell him not to throw stones. That is just disgusting. I am sorry you went through that in your life, but It sounds like it has made you a stronger person, and a better person for it. Good luck and be happy!!!
